We’ve been so excited to drive this new electric truck all year and boy did it exceed our expectations! Especially the base Pro version! We weren’t expecting a sub 4.5 second sprint to 60 in the $40,000 work truck and the near 4 second sprint in the extended range battery actually makes it quicker on the road versus the Hummer EV pickup which we clocked at 5.2 secs when you’re not using the W.T.F launch control. We should be getting one later this summer to do more extensive range testing but if you’ve got one of these or order or you’re thinking about ordering one once Ford reopens the order books, do it because this is the electric truck of the decade and once Ford ramps up production, it’s going to change people’s perception on electric vehicles even more and if you can get your hands on the base model, it’s technically cheaper than a gas powered version once incentives and credits are applied.

Ford was “able to maintain” the overall look of the F-150? I think you’re confused. This is the same truck as the regular F-150, just stuck batteries along the underside of it. It’s not like Ford actually spent the money researching and developing a bespoke EV platform for this Ford Lightning EV similarly to what GM did with their bespoke BT1 platform. It’s entertaining to watch Ford fans give them flowers for their “ability” to cheaply keep this as close to the gasoline powered F-150 as they possibly could including the fact it’s riding on the same modified ICE platform. Where would the challenge for the design team come in? Aside from “electric light bars” and a closed grille, there are no cosmetic differences compared a much cheaper ICE F-150. 😂

@trustmeImadoc912 жыл бұрын
Honestly road tripping is probably possible, coming from someone who has road tripped in a Kia Niro EV with a similar range. Right off the bat if you drive in econ mode instead of normal or sport your range goes up from 239 to more around 280 in the Niro. What it ends up being is basically "drive 3 hours, look for a walmart, plug up car, walk around the store and buy some food while the car charges. Walk out to the car and eat, watch a youtube video, bam charging done." The poor kw:mile ratio in the ford will make the charging take a bit longer than it would in my mom's Niro, but it still probably wouldn't be that bad.

This is perfect for in-town commercial towing use, contractors, etc. I need to drive maybe 60-80 miles max per day, towing a 6,000lb trailer. I spend about 1.8k/month on fuel with 87 at $4.50, (about 66% vehicle, 33% equipment). My cost per kwh is about $0.13, so I could fully charge the standard range battery for about $10. Save me at least 1.2k/month, easy. No, you're not going to tow your boat/camper 500 miles to the campsite or lake, (without jumping through some hoops) but who cares - I can rent an ICE the one time a year I need to do that and almost finance a rental property with what I'm saving not buying gas and maintaining a gas truck.

A frame-based platform is probably more conducive for electric conversion than a unibody one because you can relatively easily plop the battery inside the frame without having to massively redesign the entire vehicle. So Ford gets the best of both worlds… a surprisingly good, yet not-bespoke platform, while at the same time gaining economies of scale from common chassis components shared with the ICE platform.

He’s expected to receive his truck in 3 to 4 weeks, the dealership told him if he doesn’t confirm his pick up in a week they are handing that truck to the next person on the list and don’t expect those truck to be on there lot for even a day.

@@snakeeyes9246 That doesn't mean much if the price of entry is so ridiculously high you can't afford to buy it. Even with high gas prices, an ice motorist can take steps to lesson the burden. Drive Less, don't drive aggressivly, use lower speed access roads over highways when you can. You can't do much about a high monthly car payment aside from refinance for lower payments - which is more expensive in the long run. And, as mentioned - electric rates are going to rise as EVs become more popular. It's a simple issue of supply and demand. Not to mention that taxes for road and highway upkeep is built into gas prices. If fewer are buying gas, that means less tax revenue coming in. That needs to be compensated for. TLDR? This is a marvelous truck. Even though it has capabilities to off road and tow, that was never to be it's primary function. Ground clearance to low for good off road. If you want it for long distance towing, you'll be disappointed. However everything else is fantastic. People have been saying it won't deliver the mileage stated. I believe it will but everyone that's been driving it have been trying to see what 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds feels like. And then instead of just normal driving they are constantly punching it. With all that they say they only got 280 miles with the platinum which is rated at 300 mile with a full charge. You only need to get about 2.3 mile per kWh to achieve that mileage. That's not hard to do as I watch a sensible video where a man drove it around town at 35 mph with stop & starting at the stop signs & lights using the one pedal driving which regenerates the battery the best. He averaged 3.2 miles per kWh which equates to approximately 420 miles per charge if that was all the driving you did. My 2014 F150 got a walloping 10 mpg and when pulling my trailers closer to 6 mpg. Electric vehicles are no difference, expect your mileage range to be cut in half when towing a trailer. Obviously mileage is effected by your driving habits. I always get 50+ mpg with my 2018 hybrid Prius which most people's driving habits wouldn't come close to getting that kind of mileage. I don't wait till the last minute when I'm coming to a stop and no jack rabbit starts when I take off. With my driving habits I expect to get 400+ miles from a full charge because I won't be doing 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. I'll be one pedal driving so regenerative braking immediately when I release the accelerator pedal. No jack rabbit starts. Buts that not the main reason I'm purchasing a platinum. My home runs mainly on solar with nearly 13 kW per hour. So even on a totally cloudy day my batteries get a full charge ever day. Consequently, I not only won't be purchasing any gasoline for my vehicle but I won't be purchasing any electricity to charge it. And since my platinum has 131 kWh of battery I will be able to power everything in my home from my truck if my solar & backup generator both failed. This truck certainly isn't for everyone. And the upper trim levels like the platinum is for even less people. But the lower end Pro is a perfect work truck for anyone working locally. The 10k lbs towing capacity is greater than any other standard F150 pickup. At 230 mile range with standard battery this is an all day workhorse with its own onboard 110 volt inverter. Who drives 230 miles a day in their local area. I'd say no one. So you get home and depending on your kWh charge which is normally 9-13 cents per kilowatt hour. So if you drive sensible and achieve at least 2 miles per kWh then you can divide miles driven by 2 and multiple that figure by your kilowatt charge. Example: Drive 200 miles divided by 2 then multiplied by .13 per/kWh 200 miles would cost you $13 or as little as $9. If I drove 200 miles at 10 mpg it would cost me $100 with fuel costs today.

The 2nd gen to have something like a bike roof rack, but instead it would be a removable accessory bar that you can plug in plow lights into power sockets built into the accessory bar, and have a integrated control system for the dash so that you don't have to do custom wiring to flip on & off flashing amber lights. Not only that but physical buttons on the dash, and the ability to program what applications those physical buttons are use for with the touch screen. You could program an Aux switch to turn on a salt spreader during the winter time, and program it to cut off power to a truck bed camper during camping season so that the truck doesn't drain away accidentally as you're driving hundreds of miles. Maybe you could customize the truck to give you a warning message on the dash over an accessory every time you turn the truck on & off.

Not a Ford fan, but I congratulate them on this home-run. Until we see the Silverado EV and RAM EVolution, this seems to be the most useful and rounded EV pickup. Some of the interior materials are questionable at this price, but overall I think they nailed it. **Imagine a Mustang GT's owner in absolute disbelief being blown away by a "lowly" F150."🤣 6900lbs isn't terrible for such a large EV either. And, this truck qualifies for the $7500 tax credit, so that softens the blow.

@@normt430 yep. The Gen II is already being tested. It will add features like a heat pump and certainly longer range. This truck was likely just a beta tester for Ford to see market reaction and real world usage.

Here's an idea for RV manufacturers - make a hookup that also feeds it AC power (not just DC like the current ones), and also make it run the other way - charging the truck FROM the RV. This will be a game changer (especially if you have plenty of solar panes on the RV). With this, the possibilities infinite - like for example - extending the range of the truck when towing.
@jakes55302 жыл бұрын
I dont really know much about what you just said, but I do know that airstream is coming out with a trailer called the “estream” designed to be towed by EV’s which basically doesnt cause the tow vehicle to lose any range. Idk how it works tbh, but it’s a very cool idea

Yes, this is the most important EV to date. Thank you Tesla! Because without Tesla paving the way and proving that EV are possible in todays market - there would be no others getting into this market. It's great that the battery tech version 1 gets 320 miles of range. I'm looking forward to battery tech version 2 - whenever that comes out - maybe 2030, and hopefully will have 600 miles of range being the standard.
