Is the 6th Gen iPad Worth it for Artists in 2021?

Today I try running Artstuio pro on the 6th Gen iPad to see if it's even worth using in 2021. Do you use this iPad? What do you think about it?

I’ve been using procreate on this iPad for a couple months and I’ve been really enjoying it. I haven’t had any problems but i am also just beginning on digital art so it’s been nice and somewhat comprehensive.

This is really awesome to know. I bought my daughter a 6th generation. It's going to be her first IPad. I didn't want to break the bank nor did I want to invest in anything too expensive. She is a great little artist so this will be perfect.

I just ordered one off Walmart refurbished bundle for 200$, comes with apple pen 1st gen , case,headphones,charger and screen protector, this will also be my daughter’s first iPad 😏

Hi!! I use that iPad in 2021, I use it to draw on procreate. I usually draw on a 3072x3072 px canvas in 300ppi. I get 17 layers and I have got used to it. It works fine to me. I don’t really mind the non-laminated display. I am waiting for the next iPad 9th gen to update. I want 4gb of RAM, but I don’t want to spend 649 euros for it.

Sorry I’m new to digital art, do you mean 17 layers for a drawing or 17 layers in total ?

@@dutchdearslisa 17 layers for each drawing. If you make the canvas smaller, like 2500by2500 px, you get like 35 layers per drawing.

thanks for making this review with drawing in mind. I have a iPad air 3 as a main drawing tablet and a Samsung SM-P580 as a secondary drawing tablet, but have been looking at an iPad 6th gen as a replacement to said Samsung tablet. All other reviews to the iPad 6th in 2021 have talked about everything except drawing in mind.

Thanks a lot! This answered a few questions that i had. I ordered one costing $110 on Woot, which i thought would be a great little device to keep me sketching on the road, without having to break the bank or take my iPad air 4 out of the house.

I just want a regular iPad so when I leave home I don’t have to take my pro. One thing the regular iPads have over the pros is their durability, they are fucking tough as nails where the pro is pretty delicate. You won’t be dissatisfied with a regular iPad unless you do anything intricate..

I’m planning on getting this one as my iPad Air (1st gen) is really struggling on art apps as it only has 1gb of ram and the A7, found in the iPhone 5s... ouch lol

Very helpful! I'm looking to get my niece and nephew ipads since they draw on their phones currently. They are such incredible artist and I really want them to grow and become stronger artist. I'd be willing to splurge on more storage for them so they can try different art apps, but this is an insightful video! Thanks so much!

Glad you found the video helpful! If you're willing to spend more on more memory, I'd point you in the direction of the newest base model iPad. It comes with more memory at it's lowest price model and has updated hardware!

@kagebonito thanks for the advice! I have 4 teenage nieces and nephews so I did have a budget to stick to 😅 we found 2 refurbished 2018 models for $238 in great condition and I was able to get 2 apple pencils as well. They can always upgrade when they save up, I just wanted to get them started 🥰

Ive been itching to try Procreate but I cant justify buying it because I already have a huion monitor that I use for work. I've checked used ipad 6th gens here and they are still hovering around $280~ here in my country(excluding pen). I can buy a brand new s6 lite with that price tag 😐

I'm a bit skeptical of getting this or a much, much cheaper device on my shopping list. I'm curious to know if this will cause any lag on Ibispaint considering it has only 2GB of ram. I use ibispaint on my phone that has around 4GB of ram and It is a bit laggy when I draw on 4k canvases.

This iPad can update to the most recent version (as of May 2021) and should be able to support current apps.

​@@bhavrishadeo8548Galaxy s6 is definitely a better device than the iPad 6, but Procreate beats any Android drawing app. If you're looking for a tablet specifically for drawing, I think you should go for the iPad 6, because Procreate alone is worth it.

That sounds like a defect with heat management. You’d have to take it into Apple for a look.

Man you guys are spoiled I draw with a dual core x200t at 1200 x 800 and it runs fine it was like 80 dollars back when this was new, but holy crap a quad-core for like 160 dollars psh spoiled lol you're worried about lag like all I mean is that x200t does everything like it's not cost effective and you keep chalking it up and buying better and better gear but that's just counter productive
