People who love it own one, people who hate on it, don't own one. Simple really. Had my RS3 8Y 18 months from new. Tango Red sportback, full carbon exterior, ceramic brakes, 180mph top speed... love it. Soon ordering an 8Y facelift, just trying to decided what colour, probably Goodwood Green :-)

I was wondering how you like your ECS intake. Did you get the closed or open set up? I recently purchased the open setup, but I do have some concerns about the internal air temperatures getting a little high. At least in the summertime. How have you been liking yours? Thanks
@RS3_JAY3 күн бұрын
@ I like it, in my opinion I get just enough intake noises. I’m not a fan of all the swooshing noise from the open intake but that’s just my preference.
@Daveyboy_RS33 күн бұрын
@RS3_JAY I Also don't need all the whooshing, especially when letting off throttle, but I do like some turbo spool up sounds. So did you end up getting the open carbon fiber luft-Teknic intake or the closed one with the giant carbon fiber lid?
@Daveyboy_RS33 күн бұрын
@@RS3_JAY I actually bought the open ECS intake from someone who only used it for a month or two and got it for about half price so that's why I grabbed it. I spoke to ECS and ultimately if I wanted to it's about $300 to get the large carbon fiber lid and pieces to turn it into the closed setup If I find it to be a little too loud or that the temperatures are getting a little higher than I prefer

I really wanted to buy the 8Y RS3 when I was in the market 6 months ago. No real option for tuning *yet* pushed me toward a 24 Golf R. Paid $51k out the door so I can at least say I "saved" myself $20k. With how gorgeous the 2025's look, god help my bank account if unitronic or whomever figures out an easy way to tune the 8Y. I'm sure I'd jump ship from VW.

The inlet still helps to improve flow, we have it installed on this vehicle and this is also not tuned.
@Daveyboy_RS38 күн бұрын
@ecstuning Good to hear, I ordered the 4-in inlet from ECS. Definitely won't hurt. Maybe I'll add the racing line PCM And I think the larger 4-in inlet should play a part in helping feed air to the turbo with the extra boost.

8y s3 is the baby rs3 imo
@Daveyboy_RS33 күн бұрын
Well yeah okay. Interesting comment. I guess the A3 would be the baby to the S3, and the S3 would be the baby to the RS3, and the RS3 would be the baby brother to the R8. But as a previous golf R (S3 hatch) owner, the RS3 is nothing like an S3 or Golf R. The engine in the RS3 is a completely different beast. The sound, the acceleration, the way it handles with It's trick torque vectoring diffs, the giant brakes, the experiences night and day. Whereas the difference between the A3 and the S3 is far more similar.
@ash-d7o10 күн бұрын
same engine that was introduced in the facelift 8v (DAZA) in 2017/18 but with added OPF filters and detuned Cams to meet emissions, so why would you spend the extra instead of just getting a DAZA 8V and spending the difference on tuning?
@RichLion10 күн бұрын
Further to this, on the DNWA/DNWC engines, the oil pump is also now variable pressure for emissions which arguably could be observed as less than ideal. This can be seen in the logs.

Reality check: None of the U.S. RS3 is tunable. APR say they are working on it but I just dont see it coming. There are no bolt in roll cage, and it is a pain in the a$$ to buy aftermarket mods because no one makes them. I have a 24 RS3, it is a decent daily drive, but just not hardcore enough.
@aidencoder11 күн бұрын
I have a 2018 8V saloon. I just don't see a compelling reason for the 8Y. I also think the looks of the 8Y are worse. The interior quality is worse. The exhaust tips are bumper mounted. The whole thing makes less and less sense the more you look at it. The 8V is up there for me with the B7 RS4 in terms of longevity. The 8Y just doesn't do it for me. Meh, everyone's different.
