I don't get the Sinner is boring thing at all. I respect anyone's right to think it, we are all different, but just because he is focused on court doesn't equate to no personality. Watch him behind the scenes sometimes- he is warm and humorous. And no one deals with what he has dealt with this year and achieves what he has achieved without a great deal of character. In terms with the rivalry with Alcaraz that offers a really nice contrast in personality and play styles.

People making statements of tennis being boring tells me people want consense to blame someone for them being bored, rather than just saying they prefer to watch their favorites. It was always said about dominant players. When Djokovic emerged and started to win everything people were saying that it’s boring to watch because you know he’s gonna win. When Steffi Graf was dominating WTA was same complain like “what’s the point watching the game cause you know she’s gonna win”. It happened before and history repeats itself. I personally enjoy Sinner’s cold blooded game. What makes his game so interesting and productive is that he plays his own tennis. He doesn’t adjust his game to his rivals. There’s absolutely nothing boring about Jannik’s game. Anyone who has watched his matches against Alcaraz - and even Alcaraz himself - can attest that the quality of their shots and the intensity of their rallies rival the best of the Big Three era. If there’s anything “boring” about this era, it’s the lack of rivals - apart from Carlos, of course - who can consistently challenge Jannik. It seems to take extraordinary circumstances, like a panic attack or a virus, to even dent his dominance. As for those craving some “strong personality” drama (a.k.a. grown men behaving like spoiled brats), they can always follow Moutet or wait for the comeback of a certain misogynistic bogan.

He has a great personality, just look at how he is managing at 23 years old and playing despite the situation he finds himself in and through no fault of his own. You're confusing having personality with being a clown on the court. Having said that, you may or may not like his style of play (de gustibus non disputandum est), I personally like it, but the problem is that apart from Alcarz, there is now no one who can stay at his level.

This tournament was all about superior movement and balance from Sinner. When you watch his serve and even forehand the balance allows him to calibrate the shot lot a gun lol. It’s like when Fed would play people at a certain foot speed for 3 games - which is what Sinner did & then just ups his footwork and ball striking by 10-15 mph and then the opponent is playing a totally different match and scrambling just to catch their bearings. Alcatraz is the most elite at doing this. He does it in points and not just in game strategy BUT this requires elite footwork and balance that I feel like Carlos has lost a little edge on right now. When Alcaraz turns it up he’s the best and just making the pace and footwork so fast the opponent can’t keep up, but Sinner now has that level as his base. If you wanna startle him, you have to do it in the first 3 games of the set on his serve.

One thing i think Alcaraz has a a weakeness on hard courts, it's that his variety doesn't pay off that well like grass or Clay, when different effects, directions and height of the ball can make big damage, on hardcourts it's More about precisión and consistency, that's why His serve it's More exposed on those courts a d he cant apply His variety that easily cause he has less Time to think and react

Sinner always stood out to me since he burst onto the scene after winning the Next Gen Finals in 2019 and I'm glad that after a bit of a "flop" in 2022 and first half of 2023, he has confirmed all his potential to become the player he is today. I am a big Rafa fan and Sinner was always the player I would support next. I think Sinner and Alcaraz are clearly above the rest of the field and showed they can dominate the Tour like the Big 3 did. Holger Rune is obviously the one who can join them (the level he showed in Paris Bercy 2022 was unbelievable and I hope he can get back to that level). Regarding the rest of the top10 (excluding Nole obviously), they are the so called Weak Era (basically the 96-99 born gen), Fritz is a very basic player who has fulfilled all his potential and managed to reach a slam and YEC final and finish top4, that would be impossible in previous eras in my opinion... Zverev is probably the only one at the moment who can compete with Sinner and Alcaraz (Medvedev also could but he is declining dramatically unfortunately). So, we have to wait for the new players to keep climbing the rankings and reaching the final stages of big tournaments like Fils, Draper, Mensik, Fonseca, Musetti, Shelton, etc

Agree to disagree with fritz, it's true that he's a "limited player" compared to other too players...but not every top 10 or top 5 it's a multitalented player with full variety, for example David Ferrer was arround the same ranking In the big 3 era at their prime at Some point...being a wayy More limited player than others...but he like fritz what they do they do better than 98% of the tour and their consistency In high competitive matches provided them being with the beat players sharing rankings...

In response to your question about why Novak fans dislike Sinner: I personally find him characterless an dull. And I didn't like how he was able to frame his coach for the two failed tests, that's not a good reflection of his character. Oh yeah, and he's basically Berdych that moves much better. Boring.

It’s interesting because I’ve seen many tennis fans comment on the quality of the WTA saying that’s it’s low but I feel it’s the opposite. In my opinion, the ATP have a huge gap between the top 10 vs everyone else. I would really like to see players like Fils, Shelton, Paul, FAA make a big dent in the top 10. Fils has the all court game I think he will go far. As it relates to sinner, he’s just boring. No personality but an incredible player. Reminds me of Ig… nvm 😂 hopefully all the players heal over the next few months and hit 2025 running making it an exciting season.

Thank you Christian. I think you gave a great summary of a definitely strong wave of feeling at the moment. I know it is true for me and I barely watched the finals. There has to be top level tennis as a given bot what is missing is any engaging factors. This would be true of any sport but if for instance a football match result was already known the interest in the match diminishes. And also dynamic engaging players to give an emotional excitement and connection.

What about Iga beating all of her competition 6-0 6-1? There’s only a couple of girls that can actually challenge specially on clay she has no competition aside from the Osaka match she had. Every other tournament she is cruising by. The only reason why the end of the year was more exciting is because she was out and gave the other girls time to rise. I personally don’t care for her and find the WTA completely boring when she is cruising by and has no real competition except for the few upsets here and there. Same thing with ATP, Sinner is just better than the rest but doesn’t necessarily mean the rest are weak.

I have to say - I'm a new tennis fan just this year and Jannik basically single handedly made me one. Not only do I like him as an athlete because of his game, but I like tennis as a sport because of his game. Its been a tumultuous season to jump on the sinner train to say the least haha ;) BUT everything I've seen from him on and off court has only made me respect him more as "a player and a person" as he likes to say. So no, I do not find him boring. (although.. I think he'd agree that thank god Alcaraz is around to challenge him if for no other reason than his and our own shared amusement)

I really like your content and ive started to watch it regularly, i usually agree with you on many points but not in this video: 1, when the level is as high as it is with Alcaraz and Sinner it's impossible for me to call it a weak era or uninteresting. 2, Anything will be less compelling than the Big 3 rivalry, it doesn't mean that the current era is uninteresting. 3, Saying that the WTA is more interesting than the ATP right now is like saying that the junior circuit is more compelling than the senior one. They're two totally different levels. You can't compare them. You won't start watching junior tennis all of a sudden.
@cybernetennis3 күн бұрын
I feel like Jack Draper, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Arthur Fils and Tomas Machac are my faves to push the big 2. If you sprinkle some deep Djokovic runs it will be super interesting; your right Ruud and Rublev probably don't have it and actually I don't like watching either one of them.

As a Sinner fan, I'm very happy that he is dominating. But I do think it's been a lackluster second half of the season with both Alcaraz and Djokovic not playing consistently. And the others like Zverev, Fritz, Medvedev and below do not feel like real contenders and are basically canon fodder. Still think the ATP is a bit more compelling than the WTA, which I haven't been excited about since Osaka and Serena were still at the top years ago. Hope someone from the younger generation of Draper, Mensic, Shang, Fils, Shelton, and Perricard can make that transition to the top next year.
@JamminOnThe13 күн бұрын
I think the match between Fritz and Zverev was awesome. Sinner is surging but I think Alcaraz with surge. If you look at the last decade or so there were a lot of players who became number one, even Andy Murray became number 1 for a while.
@TheFlowMind3 күн бұрын
It was not boring, it’s just that Sinner’s matches were won from the start and he barely suffered. The most enjoyable was Zverev vs Fritz. While Sinner vs Fritz was surprisingly a serve match which is not that enjoyable especially in the first two games of first set.

weak era, nah, maybe a transition era but not weak. people always say this when a dominant player starts to rise above everyone else - i actually prefer when there's a dominant force in a sport and everyone is gunning for that guy - not Sinners fault everyone else can't rise to his (or Alcaraz) level.
@noahurst-c7x3 күн бұрын
i think that once alcaraz gets out of his losing slump and back in form we can see matchups from him and sinner. but because he is losing in the early stages of tournaments we are not seeing any matchups. that could deficiently make the atp more interesting.
@austinwilson80363 күн бұрын
ATP is in a transition phase and I think the fans/sport are still mourning the loss of the Federer, nadal and djokovic era. There hasn't been enough time for this generation of players to determine who will have the next great rivalry. The players and tennis media need to build some narratives. Right now the men behave like NPCs. Their socials are boring. Their interviews are calculated and sanitized. There is very little flavor aside from Alcaraz, Tiafoe and Shelton. It's a PR problem more than anything. Give us drama and mess, give us stakes, give us something to get us emotionally invested. Otherwise, the fans will tune out regardless of how skilled the players are.

I, as a Novak fan, don't like Jannik, but I also don't hate him, is more like.. I don't mind him. Whereas Carlos is someone I can potentially even love in the future. Here's why: - better celebrations - potential to become Wimbledon goat by Carlos (I know a lot of ppl won't agree with me on this one) - in general Carlos more likeable personality, he's smiling and joking all the time. Honestly, I don't even have a reason to like or hate Jannik bcs I have no idea for what... Only traits that comes to my mind is that he is calm and he is humble. It's good to have them but how can you build your whole character as a tennis icon on just these two things? Just as a reminder. We had Roger, the gentelmen, talented, finesse always classy, always funny but in a more mannered way. We had Rafa, the fighter, shy, handsome Spaniard, making all of these jokes sometimes unintatiinally bcs of his english. We had Novak, the goat, fighting with the opponent and everyone else in the stadium, always expressive, with huge serbian temperament, party breaker for Roger and Rafa. They all were SOMETHING And now.. compare it to Jannik.. well he's calm and he's humble... Great.
@al1976-v7m3 күн бұрын
Well don't forget he's a spindly Tyrolean kid at heart. Very guarded and private and probably not always that confident in other areas of his life. I'm sure he has a fun and quirky side to him as we've seen in the legendary Jim Courier interview last year in Australia. He just doesn't like to show it publicly all that much. I think his cool aura is a great contrast to some of the other players. But he will be the benchmark and probably achieve Novak-like greatness if he stays hungry and healthy. Similar to Novak, his base level is just higher than anyone else's and it will take outstanding efforts each time to beat him on the biggest stages. Carlos has proven he's capable of doing it, as for the others the jury is still out...
@godz4ever4043 күн бұрын
Well, dang, tell us how you REALLY feel?! 😂 But in all fairness, Jannik being calm, humble and just an introvert (to me) IS his something! He just brightens up an entire room when little children are around as I believe he's just a big kid himself. He is who he is and that's good enough. 🤗🎾👌

I think the ATP Finals were perceived as boring because of the predictability of the outcome. Sinner has taken tennis to a whole new level with his athleticism, clinical execution, and consistency. He makes most of the rest of the field look average and it's up to the other top players to step up. I'm glad you called out the trolls against Sinner. Unfortunately there will always be some salty, jealous tennis fans (esp. Djokovic ones) who will throw mud at Sinner, even though they know he's not a drugs cheat. Kudos to Sinner for his mental fortitude. Women's tennis is definitely more exciting right now because of how close the top players are in their abilities and performances. ATP you have work to do to match them.

No, we are not in the midst of a weak era. I suspect that we are witnessing now, on both the WTA and ATP tours is the realization that they play the same boring baseline offensive game. There are hardly any change of pace, mixing up shots, as Alcaraz tended to do. When I harken back even to the Big 4, we had players at the top with variety, especially Federer, and Murray. Other ATP players like Gasquet, and now Shapovalov, and that young Italian….Musetti who possess beautiful playing styles. Today we have with the same boring baseline robotic style of play. I happen to love Sinner’s power game, and now he is mixing in changes of pace at times, and moving forward to net. I know the reason that I enjoyed the past 20-25 years of watching ATP, was mainly because there were more pleasurable viewing, because of the contrast in styles, across both tours. I can recall some tennis analysts speaking of the method in which junior players were being taught. It was, and still is, mostly baseline play. I don’t enjoy either tour as much any longer. I have some favourite players, and will watch mainly those players now.

I found the ATP finals listless and boring. One three setter. Terrible crowds. Of course Sinner is analytically brilliant - that's why the other players and most fans are so bored with the whole process. He simply doesn't play with them, doesn't lift them, has no intention of doing anything except show how brilliant he is. The finest players know how to bring out the best in each other, how to entertain and do great stuff (and often win). Very weak era. You want two tours - one for excitement and entertainment where we have people you hate - Kyrgios, Daniil, Rune, all giving the crowd a wonderful time and playing WITH each other for us. The other tour is Sinner playing with himself for his adoring fans. Sinnerfam, as with Nolefam, is why people hate Sinner and hated Nole. Kyrgios is/was wonderful. You want him got rid of. Take your pick. A great tour with excitement and us wanting to come back? A pathetic tour that you can watch on a computer if you want to.
