9.92lbs is very heavy for a modern carry on bag! Most airlines have a 22lbs limit on carry on bag weight....so almost half your weight allowance is the bag. You can get very lightweight carry on bags these days and they don't cost much.

Sam’s Club has a $50 Member’s Mark brand suitcase that is 99.9% identical to the Away as far as I can tell. The only non-cosmetic differences are that the Member’s Mark has a grab handle on the bottom, it’s expandable, and it has a different interior organizer. But it has the same wheels, same handle, same shell, I’m pretty sure they came out of the same factory using the same parts. I was cross shopping the two for an entire month and even visited both stores to try them out in person. In the end, I realized that the Member’s Mark luggage actually improved on the Away and I could buy 5 of them for the price of one Away bag. In my honest opinion, I think that the only reason why this bag is expensive is because they’ve spent so much money paying off “influencers” to market this bag and it’s really a $50 product being sold for $245. It’s incredible how much money you can trick out of people by paying the right people on Instagram and KZbin.

When my cheap department store suitcase wheels finally gave up, I bought an Away Bigger Carry On. I think it is worth the higher cost for the features you listed. But mainly I think it will last far longer than cheaper luggage. I'm a proponent of buying quality once rather than cheap several times if one can afford it. I later added a back pack and the medium suitcase and the quality of both have met or exceeded my expectations. So far I have one international trip and several domestic trips and other than some minor scuffs, they have held up very well. With at least two international trips this year, we shall see if my initial thoughts hold up over time.

I travel international and it meets the requirements of most if not all countries on L-W-D. I bought this bag and my previous bag is still going strong but I had to replace both wheels myself as this was a custom bag. That bag has endured being checked and carry on for 30 trips international. I like Away because it is quality and unlike some comments below I only will use this 10A battery that Away provides. I need not carry other batteries. I did pack for 8 days (actually 6 as a day out and back to Ukraine) and it held all I had. My other bag would expand but would not fit into the cages some airlines have but this one does for all including AirFrance which is very picky about carry on size. Yes it is expensive but I doubt I will wear this out and if it breaks I will have to send it off because I don't live in one of the cities listed. So what, I kept the box for this contingency just in case and recommend this to other users that don't live close to their Away locations. I am satisfied that this luggage and I am rather picky so nice job Away...

I personally was denied a return, or even an exchange when they promise they would offer 100 days for free return and lifetime warranty. The real customers reviews are all bad without exception, the ones on their website are all made up. Totally agree. I had a cheaper suitcase and upgraded to a bigger carry on once my old one broke. I’ve taken it domestically in the US and to Columbia, Spain, France, Greece, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and Ethiopia in the last 2 years with no problems besides scuffs (although I actually kind of like them, it’s like when leather gets a patina). I will say I would not upgrade only for the battery, laundry bag, compression, etc... as they are not entirely necessary. However, they do make life a little easier so I have no regrets about the suitcase.

I’ve used the hard side larger carry on size for about six domestic work trips last year. Wasn’t too heavy as a carry on at all for me. It does scuff easily if you check it, but mine have held up really well. The biggest complaint I have is the handle. It feels a little loose to me and I think it could have been made better. The other thing I worry about is the side handle coming off if you carry it on the side if your larger suitcase is heavy. (I have a Medium size too) But it may just be me worrying needlessly.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before. Please keep in mind that Away bag's handle has only two fixed positions - fully extended and 3/4" extended. found this video after I got one, also somehow didn't know it was an influencer bag (wouldn't been an immediate red flag)...I was just looking up good hardcase luggage that came in different colors because that's how your bag doesn't get stolen easily. I've been using my peptobismal pink carryon from Brookstone for 20y that was maybe $70....and didn't realize they went out of business a while ago and couldn't get get a larger one from them so was looking for something in a similarly standout color and hardcase. top comment here says they've used their away bag for 2y and the shell cracked....my other hardback is about 20y old and MANY trips/intl trips and the most it's got is a dent. It currently is the stand for an airfilter when I'm at home and unzipped works great as a sturdy platform. The away medium bag I got that looks similar is a flimsy joke in comparison and right out of the box I want to return it. It won't stay put without caving in on its own unzipped, and it's clearly cheap and flimsy.

I have the aluminum carry on and check in bag. I agree with you that they are nice bags for the price point, and I too and less-than-pleased with the shaky handles. If you request the bags without the battery, they still leave the housing the battery would sit in, in the bag, which takes up space. Also its the same price whether you want the battery or not. I'd edge on the side that they are a touch overhyped. This all being said, if I didn't already own Away luggage I wouldn't purchase them. Their product is not worth, to me, knowingly supporting a company with unacceptable business practices, especially toward their marginalized minority employees. Love the review. I purchased my first Away luggage back in 2018 (The Carry-On) simply because I saw the hype around the brand and fell in love with it. Also, purchased the Large today. Although the carry-on weighs more than most, every airline I have flown with hasn't weighed it so it's not a breaking factor. The ejectable battery comes in the clutch especially when connecting flights and layovers are involved. It chargers both phones and laptops at rapid speed (better than other portable chargers I've ever had). The only con I have is the luggage does require cleaning every now and then because they pick up scuff marks, but they can easily be removed with a good scrub with a magic eraser. Overall, I will say it's worth the money if you are a mid to heavy traveler or simply want something that's trendy, but not so much if you are looking for something to get the job done and don't travel a lot.

LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is NOT THEIR luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p17KfaabnMatedU Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile... kzbin.info/www/bejne/an_JiWWNaamBbac These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon. Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees. Tie to the base of the handle, tie to the metal buckle. Thus, it will not slip along the handle. Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers. Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape. You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case. Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle. Learn Half Windsor knot tying: It is the 2nd example in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmHcmWiogKdsoqc This knot does not loosen. Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie. Example: “Owner 454-333-7878” No personal name necessary. No address necessary on the ribbon. Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color. Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece. Tie your skiies, duffel bag, backpack and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case. If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself. Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible. Pleasant color combinations: Red, white and blue Chartreuse and purple and orange Orange and light blue Orange and yellow Gray and pink Green and yellow Red and Green Red and Gold Light blue and light green and white The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan Tip #2 PICTURE RECORD Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. Take a picture of the interior. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it. You can show this picture to the searcher or attach a picture to your report for lost luggage. Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights. Tip #3 INSIDE IDENTITY Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape... To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape. Tip #4 HIDDEN IDENTITY Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show. Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS Use 4 ribbons Add 1 designer ribbon colored duct taped handle Stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2” or smaller stencil letter or number or word or your initials to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray the BOTTOM OF THE CASE as well. Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon. Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”. Put a travel sticker on the case. Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE It is less than $15. Tip #7 GPS TRACKING DEVICE Duct tape to an inside pocket a GSM GPS Tracking device. Find them on Ebay. Your iphone can tell you where your luggage is. Is it in another city? kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3vOhoaEfqemhpI HomingPIN tracker kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGqZcneoi9-br9U Gego Tracker kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3qTcoWketakY9k Worldwide Tracker ...GSM, Wifi, Bluetooth USB rechargeable Tip #8 OLD TAGS, YOUR ITINERARY Remove old trip tags before you arrive at the airport. Remove confusion. Put a copy of your trip itinerary in an outside pocket so the agent can redirect the bag. Ask the travel agent to send you copies. Photograph all travel documents using your cell phone. Tip #9 FLIGHT SAFETY Put laptops, cameras and jewelry in your CARRY-ON. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIKveqqMjcZmpbc Tip #10 LET LUGGAGE FOLLOW YOU Choose non stop flights. Choose connecting flights of at least 90 minutes so luggage has time to be transferred to the next plane. Compare white luggage destination tag city code to your itinerary for accuracy. Tip #11 TAKE SCREEN SHOTS OF THESE TIPS Then share them with your friends. Include the Tube Video seen here also. Tip #12 PHOTOGRAPH THIS Your travel plan Vaccine Passport Hotel confirmations handwritten by you. Your luggage, inside and out. Include unusual words spray paint stenciled on luggage by you. Show a close up of ribbon colors. Your destination luggage tag, bar code tag Receipts for payment of trip. If you lose paper versions, you have a backup. Passcode lock your cell phone in case it is lost. Tip #13 LUGGAGE DESTINATION TAG Check the accuracy of the white luggage tag code against your itinerary. You may be sending your luggage to the wrong city. BAGGAGE THEFT VIDEO kzbin.info/www/bejne/an_JiWWNaamBbac kzbin.info/www/bejne/amOziXaOd9xqfbc Tip # 14 AVOID these in CHECKED baggage kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYGzgq2rbZmUnsU Tip #15 IF YOU SELL LUGGAGE Include a set of 3-4 ribbons, 14” long, with the sale. Consider tying them on for the customer. Sell an extra set for the hand carry piece. .

What do you consider as a frequent Traveller? Someone that travels less than once per year?
@TripAstute Жыл бұрын
It's definitely a subjective question. I would personally say a frequent traveler is someone who travels 2-3 times per year, or at least once internationally per year. Though I'm sure that others have different definitions for "frequent."

Something for buyers to note: only a few colors have the USB charging pack option. Various signature colors do not, as well as none of the expandable suitcase versions, nor any of the limited edition colors. I’m still interested in purchasing Away luggage but it’s a detail worth knowing, and I wish they’d include the USB feature on all carry-on colors/versions.

I am taking a international trip for a week do you think the bigger carry on bag will be big enough for this trip?
@TripAstute Жыл бұрын
That's a tough question to answer since everyone is different. I've definitely traveled overseas on just a carry-on bag, but it really depends on the destination and the type of trip. On my last 3 week trip overseas, I made a point to do laundry while traveling which helped me pack lighter.

Thanks for checking out our video and channel! I still think some of the best value bags can be found in overstock discount stores (e.g., TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, Marshalls, etc.). Also, I've heard great reviews of the bags on ebags.com and Costco suitcases (Kirkland-branded).

@TMAItalia4 жыл бұрын
Blake Fealy You can use your own battery pack in there, but since the suitcase comes with one, I usually just take the extra one with me in the suitcase just in case the other one hasn’t been charged up. Away suitcases are way too heavy for international travel standards, they seem to only suit the domestic US market only. Most international airlines have a 7kg or 10kg weight allowance for carry-on luggage. Their carry on weighs more than my large check in from Antler that is super robust. Totally overhyped brand, just wait for Antler or Samsonite to go on sale
@helenscarborough54584 жыл бұрын
Can you compare the normal Away suitcase to the expandable version? I am trying to decide which one to get but am not sure which version would be better.
@TripAstute4 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely consider it. There's definitely pros and cons to both styles. For the normal (hard case) suitcase, it's easier to clean and you get the battery compartment. The expandable loses the battery compartment and the fabric gets dirty easily, but the extra expansion and front pocket are really useful.

It seems somewhat water resistant to me. It has a protective lip that covers the zipper. It's certainly more water resistant than my other suitcases. 👍
@jasonleetaiwan4 жыл бұрын
Away is basically lower quality for the same price as traditional brands. It has some nice features, but the wheel and zipper on the case is clearly inferior quality. Their Hinomoto wheels are lower quality Hinomoto wheels. The zipper is single coil and is not tamper proof. You really aren't saving money by buying Away. You are paying more for a lower quality case with a battery pack. Away is mostly IG marketing. No one from inside the luggage industry would use an Away. Spend the same amount of money on a traditional brand and get higher quality.

I love how timeless they are and obviously the metal casing gives them more stability than most other suitcases could dream of. They’re incredibly well-made - the handles or locks have never once failed me in all those years - and it’s all very nice materials like leather and metal. The inside pockets are what all businessmen dream of: two flexible pockets for shirts, ties etc and the possibility to divide the suitcase into three flexible compartments - that is the basic set, there’s one with even more pockets and possibilities. It’s relatively lightweight considering the classy materials used and it just shows who you are and what you want. I absolutely swear by it.

Nice Review bro!, But have you ever heard about Nomad Lane Bento Bag? I have been using this travel bag for quite some time, and I have never been so satisfied with a travel bag, it is a duffel bag but packs like a suitcase so its like a luggage , but a carry on. It looks very stylish also, perfect for fashionistas out there. Compartments? it has so many, it also has a trolley sleeve so whenever you want to put it at rest just put it o your luggage bag. Plus, it fits under your plane seat. Perfect travel bag for me.
