It seems like wherever you go shopping that many of the stores are closing down today. I went to the Beverly Center on La Cienega Blvd. to find out if the mall is dead I remember this mall being really popular about 20 years ago I have not step foot in the mall since over 15 years so I wanted to find out myself if it’s still worth it to go there

Same here. Not doing well in my 50's for my knees and feet hurt too much and too tired and heavy feeling to handle working full time like when I was younger. So I live on much less while the inflation is horrific. I too was able to travel, shop, eat out, and engage life more when I was young up until about 2022. I find I'm unemployable since 2022 so I just live simple off my $1700 a month Veterans disability watching KZbin instead of doing things I want to do like travel and fishing. I've tried a lot in recent years to get a job at VA or through a VA case manager, but was told I don't qualify for anything like compensated work therapy program for unemployed veterans despite having a degree and a clean background. It's simpler to not have a car, but public transit is limited. I live in Salt Lake which sorta a smaller version of LA is many regards minus the cost and those trees and plants. I don't' see the economy and country getting better during the 10 to 20 years we have lef on our lives. America is just shell of it's former glory and going down which saddens me to no end so these videos while we're still here give us some quality of life.

I worked at the Beverly Center Mall 39 years ago. I'm now 72 and live in North Georgia. I worked at Optical Fashion Center and Dr. Levelthal's Vision Care Center. I met a lot of celebrities. I remember seeing Joan Collins coming up the first escalator you were on. When I came back from lunch, she was at my workplace. I met so many celebrities there and my favorite was Patrick Stewart. Very cool guy and I spoke with him for a long time. At that time the Borg episodes were in production. I met Eddie Van Halen, Elton John, Muhammad Ali, Marvin Hagler, Marie Osmond, Cher, Robert Vaughan, Fran Jeffries, the guy who played Horshak in Welcome Back Kotter, Pepe Ludmir from Peru, Whoopi Goldberg, Stephen Bishop, and Bruce Springsteen. That's just who I can remember. Thanks for the update on the Beverly Center!

Sadly, except for a handful that are still surviving, enclosed malls are on the endangered list. Many have already closed, while others are becoming ghost towns with empty stores throughout. I was the store manager of Taco Bell on Beverly Blvd just down the street from Beverly Center in 1979/1980, before the mall even opened. It was quite exciting when it did open, and it was THE place to go in the area. It was a different time. Now, people seem to prefer outdoor shopping and dining destinations, at least here in sunny California.

And by the way, the Beverly Center now has these futuristic elevators that don't work. You push the button for the level you want to go to while you're on the outside of the elevator, not on the inside. So if you change your mind about what floor you want to go to, you're out of luck. But the real problem is, the elevator wouldn't take me to the floor that I wanted to go to. I had to get out, and take the escalator.

I’ve shopped and worked at the Beverly Center for years. I think one of the biggest downsides to it is that it doesn’t have a food court. On top of that, shoplifting and smash and grabs have become so common in California it makes people feel uneasy working and shopping in malls. Also the Beverly Center tries to cater to both the high end crowd and the average Joe but I think these days they’re losing both of them while trying to maintain their identity as a mall. For me these days I’d rather drive a little further and go to Glendale Galleria or Culver City mall where there is free parking, a food court, a gym, more stores for the working class people and feels a little safer.

I'm lucky to be getting old. Remember when Del Amo mall site was open fields and swamp where we caught turtles & lizards. The 91 freeway didn't exist & others only partially built. Botanical Garden in PV was a dump site. Dominguez Hills was open space & oil derricks. Didn't have to pay to park at the beach. Marineland, Nike missle base, and lots of snakes in Palos Verdes. No traffic family Sunday drives. Kids roamed the streets on bikes & shot bb guns in the open fields. Huge naval base & shipyard in San Pedro /Long Beach. The Pike & POP. No skyscrapers in downtown L.A. Still had oranges, cows, and dairys around. Not much of anything in Orange /Ventura Counties were mostly small towns and agriculture. Ocean Blvd in Long Beach was full of sailors & peep shows. Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was not fancy at all same nor was State Sreet in Santa Barbara. Disneyland was an inexpensive family oriented destination (same as Knoxs). Would spot celebreties around the westside & Hollywood no big deal. Pace of life in SoCal was much slower & was known to be "laid back". The SoCal from my childhood is a long gone cherished distant memory.

Traffic is crazy in this area on account of Cedar's Sinai Hosp. 1-2 blocks away from the mall. I've been visiting Cedars more recently-a hazard which comes with age.

Thanks for the tour! I used to go to the Beverly Center all the time back when the Hard Rock Cafe was still there. Such great times and great shopping. Then it started going downhill, lots of shops closed and I stopped going...probably like you, it's been around 15 years since I've been there. Good to see signs of life coming back to that classic mall!

I remember years ago going to the Beverly Mall. I saw Sondra Locke shopping there. She was walking through the mall right in front of me. Since she was a favorite actress of mine, I was thrilled. It was a very upscale mall for its time. Had a fabulous lunch there with my sister-in-law.

Sold my condo on Burton Way in Beverly Hills, a 15 minute walk to the Beverly Center. Many homeless began showing up in tents along the center median and surrounding the Beverly Center. Moved to a tropical paradise outside of the US, and have never been happier.

Congratulations on your move! I am happy to report, however, that Burton Way has been restored to its glory. The center median are all restored now with green grass and there is a “no camping” ordinance along the entirety of Burton Way and the surrounding neighborhood. No encampments on or around Burton anymore, and the police do a great job keeping it that way. This happened about a year ago and it’s been doing well ever since.

Great to see that some Malls are still going. I used to love them and go to any Mall in any town. But that is 20-30 years ago. Today, I like more walking outside than inside. Nevertheless, you should open an online store and sell the pictures you made over the years. That 3 set 6th street bridge picture is awesome. Well done.

I haven't been to Beverly Center since 2004! I went to some Chinese restaurant that was very good, can't remember the name. The mall didn't feel particularly lively back then either. In the 80s and 90s it was hopping. I was a west side kid, so I hung out mainly in Westwood or Santa Monica's Promenade. I would rarely go to the Beverly Center. I only went there when I hung out with friends who lived in that area of Beverly Hills and Fairfax, Hollywood.

LA as a whole is slipping into ruins. From the Santa Monica Prominade, to downtown LA, to Long Beach, to Beverly Hills. Closed down business's everywhere. Homeless everywhere. Graffiti and trash everywhere. LA is not what it was 5, 6, or 7 years ago. It's getting out of hand how far it's gotten.

Hi Mike! 🛍🏬Beverly Center is Los Angeles, not Beverly Hills. I used to go there all the time almost every week. Macy's was the best store back in the day and had the coolest clothes, especially from cutting edge designers and companies. Beverly Center was jam packed with people in the 1980s and 1990s. When the 2000s arrived the mall started getting a lot less popular as time progressed on, as a lot of people were buying online. The good thing was Beverly Center always had people inside but just not as packed as it was in the past. This entire area the majority are single people or young couples, this is not a family area, that's why there are so many bars and clubs in this area. Beverly Center has always had really cheap parking, and back in the day parking was free. There are so many levels of parking it would never be no space available. The entire interior of the Beverly Center was re-done as you see it now. It didn't look like this in the mid 2000s. The food court area used to be huge, but the last times I was in there hardly anyone was buying the food, that's most likely why they closed it down.🌴🌴🌴
