I am really enjoying this series of video discussions. There is a question that I hope that somebody can add info. Does anybody have any thoughts about the ISV (International Standard Version)? Another question: I would like to know the name of a Bible translator who is on you-tube, who is tied to truth, as opposed to a dogma. I love Daniel Wallace and Bill Mound in the discussions that I have heard. Thanks for any help.

Be sure you don't make the mistake of equating knowing they were writing scripture and writing with the authority of the Spirit. They may not have known they were riding a new testament that would be added to the scriptures of the old testament, but they knew that they were writingng with the authority given them through Jesus Christ by the imputation of the Holy Spirit and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. And they recognized that about their writing and the writing of their fellow apostles.

I am also surprised by this oversight in McDonald’s thinking, as great a resource as he is on this topic. Among certain academics there seems to be a tendency to focus on whether the Apostles thought their writings were going to be made equal to the OT, and of course they make no direct statement on this so that leans us towards an agnostic position. However, if we ask whether Peter and Paul were writing from a position of self-conscious, authorized messengers of Jesus and by Jesus, it becomes very clear that they were self-conscious of this, and this is what grounds their authority in the church, and why their writings were later so honored. But such honor is not just granted by the giver, it was asked for by the Apostles. For example, is 1 Cor. 14:37 not a place where Paul asserts his apostolic authority and makes clear his self-awareness of the authority of his writing to them: “If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:37-38‬ ‭ESV‬‬ It seems that in our desires to be carful we can categorize ourselves out of addressing the root issues and lock ourselves into an improper agnosticism. But always learning. Appreciative of all his hard work.

The books and letters of scripture being thought of having been inspired by YHWH(God) is confusing for many people. The processes and causes of Inspiration sounds like a good topic for an Holy Spirit fulled academic to write about or at least a KZbinr to present. I find brothers and sisters tossing around the "The Inspired Word of God" confusing and a plea to authority that grates many non followers specially when Jesus is "The Word of God" (Rev19:13) thus the infallible eternal authority and scripture is just a tool for the Holy Spirit work with us.

Yet the Tawrat teaches, "Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD" (Deuteronomy 8:3 and, in the Injeel, Matthew 4:4). Jesus said in John 4:32 and 34, "I have food to eat that you do not know about...My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work." He also said, "I am the living Bread that came down from heaven." People need food for their bodies and Jesus for their souls.

That was interesting to hear that hypothetically “if” Dr. McDonald were to add any books to the Protestant biblical canon, it would be 1 Clement and the Odes of Solomon, but none of the so-called “deuterocanonical” books in Catholic and eastern orthodox Bibles. That speaks volumes for this educated and well respected biblical scholar. Thank you so much for this. It was extremely helpful in my own study and discussions with Catholics and others on the canon, especially this part of what he said.
