African cooking is criminally slept on. We all know the jokes, you haven't had much Ethiopian cooking and neither have they, but after learning of Shakshuka I wanted to know more what people can do when they have very different spices or ingredients and giving it a modern lens through Wakanda's high tech secret civilization sounds amazing. Even Caribbean is kind of underrated for how unique it is and having access to many cultural inputs and sourcing ingredients. Glad to hear the three recipes came out and I might have to check it out, not an obsessive Marvel fan but ya African cooking through a modern perspective sounds amazing either as something to mix things up or just get inspiration for other dishes.
@fredfry5100 Жыл бұрын
Not to sound cold or nationalist (or anything else for that matter), but it feels to me that just about everything African, other than the wildlife, is slept on.Back in middle school we were taught that Africa was this strange place full of natural resources, exotic animals, and a whole bunch of poor government induced poverty and child labor. Seriously.
@stargirl7646 Жыл бұрын
@@fredfry5100I KNOW! It’s really sad. Frickin ENORMOUS continent and most Americans (even me!) know so little about it. I randomly got mad about that and decided to learn all the names of the countries in Africa and where they are, just to start, and wow it was humbling… Millions of people live in countries whose names I had barely even heard of 😢

I looked around a little and it seems you might have had cassava starch (and there might be some mislabeling or using terms interchangeably involved) When you mix certain starches and water you get ooblek a non newtonian fluid. Several descriptions of cassava flour i found said it should be less fine and maybe yellowish?

@@MisoHungrie this might be a translation issue. The bag in the video said 木薯粉which does usually mean starch. Chinese cooking doesn't normally use actual cassava flour, only starch so if it's got Chinese characters on the bag it's probably starch. You could try those health food cassava flour which seems like more of a flour alternative.

Ox tail soup is the best and I am upset that it is so hard to find where I live, and that it is not as normal or known. My mother made it for me the first time, and the broth is completely different with the tail compared to anything else. I do like the image of T'Challa having a royal dinner, somehow the idea of the everyday life of such a grand role in such a different land and culture is very interesting; food is something that everyone has in common, and it is always fun to see something we all share be made and eaten differently both across cultures but also ranks. I had hoped, if they would rather have comic panels rather than food pictures, that there would be more pictures of the characters eating, but then I realized that superhero comics taking space to just sit and eat might not be as common as I would like to imagine. Perhaps I will check some recommended comic books of Black Panther and Wakanda. About the pictures, it also makes me wonder the reasons for some books having less pictures than others. I know Victoria Rosenthal does her own pictures, and she mentioned once in a podcast that food photography was, at the time, not an independant field yet. I assume the recipe authors have to make all the food they list, so why not take pictures? Is it an extra payment to it that the book company does not want to give? Would the author have to purchase their own equipment and that might not be reasonable? Or is it just individual preference? It makes me curious.
