Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we take out this 2018 Chevy Camaro 2SS by HSV.. this is the Australian variant that HSV have made to RHD with over 357 bespoke aussie parts.. still has its legendary 6.2L V8 , RWD, & a LSD.. this may cost a lot more than a mustang GT here in Aus... but trust me when i say you need to watch this whole video, because i think it's bloody worth it..

Really wanted one. But these cars really pissed me off. The mustang was 59-69K These are 80K cause of the Left hand drive. 20-25K added cause of the work HSV did to convert them. Fucken GM couldnt just do what Ford do, Sell them in right hand drive. These cars are to expensive and then the ZL1 is 120-140K but in states the SS is 40K and ZL1 is 70-80K, Even with the US dollar its a steal. GM dropped the ball yet again and these didnt sell as they should and Now they are axed,

you're paying extra for the camaro, but at least you're getting something relatively rare and unique (at least here). There's just about as many Mustangs on the road as Toyota camrys. most people wouldn't bat an eyelid at a mustang nowadays, but a camaro is a headturner.

A big part of the price difference with the USA price is the Australian price is the Australian luxury car tax, which slaps an extra 33% on the price of cars over $60k.

I had a 2019 2SS, really loved that car, never had one issue with it, until I hit a Kangaroo. I was 6 months without a car waiting on parts, Holden & GMSV didn’t give 2 farks either. As soon as it was repaired I got ride of it, sold it for 25k more than I paid for it.

The last time I saw a Camaro 2SS And A ZL1 was when I was 13 and now I’m 16 and I haven’t seen one since I think the reason why it’s because it’s the last overseas cars that were in the HSV Factory and most of them are stored away as a collectors piece and there only just going up in value. When I was 13 at a holden dealer a guy bought a 2SS Camaro for $70000 back in 2019 and now 3 years later they have gone up 30 to 40k and I’m just like wtf that’s crazy. Unfortunately GMSV/Walkinshaw cancelled the Camaro program a few years ago. It has been replaced by the C8 Corvette by GMSV

The 2SS is a specification level, more options than the SS. HSV decided to import the higher spec which boosted the price but made it a nicer package. When HSV changed to the 2019 it went from an 8 speed to 10 speed auto which means there is never a weak point when your put your foot down but traction is always the big problem. I agree the centre console was a big miss, just to remind everyone in Australia that it started as a LHD! I bought my 2019 2SS new and don't plan on selling it! Too much fun and better than the Mustang in so many ways.

I was going to write more or less exactly the same. I too have the 2019 2SS here in Qld and would not part with it. 2 points I'd like to make: 1: the people saying HSV is better, get an LS3. This stock 2019 camaro beats an LSA Maloo in a race. I know 100%. How? I've raced one. Being a former E3 Maloo owner and part of Club Maloo Qld. 2: The armrest. It's perfect. I actually think the Americans and original design was wrong. Don't believe me? Find a Camaro in Aus and sit in the passenger seat. Put your can of drink in the hole and try grab it without lifting your arm. Now go sit in the driver's seat and try the same task.

As an American who stumbled upon your video, it's interesting to see the changes that HSV made to the original car. One of the strangest is that they removed the SS badge from the seats. In the states, our 2SS cars have a red, plastic SS badge embedded into the back of the seat. It's a really nice touch that makes the car feel even more premium. For the extra $$$ that you guys are paying, I'm surprised they removed it

I bought a second hand VE E3 HSV Clubsport R8 that was like brand new from a HSV dealership in Tweed Heads NSW. It was that good it was in the new car showroom along side a brand new white Camaro SS. Anyway the Salesmen started the Camaro up in the dealership to show off and the thing sounded awesome. Bloody dear car to buy however back then (2019) but, the one you reviewed has increased in value over new price by $27k so they were a great investment I guess.👌

I totally agree with you I live in the states and I own a Chevy SS which is a VF commodore and I also own a Chevy Caprice that I just recently bought which is basically a Holden Caprice V I'm a huge Holden fan. I really wish that manufacturing with all back to Australia so y'all can make the awesome cars and import to us so that we could also own the crazy cool cars that y'all make over there it's a real shame I agree with you

@@RossReviewsau yeh man. We have awesome cars over here. But I just love Holden is all. I love love love my VF2 and my WM. They will both be finished one day. Fully convert. VF will be almost 1500hp. WM will have a blower hopefully making 800whp to daily around. But one day would love you to come over and review a person I'm the states that love Holden cars.

Progression to 10L90-E would have been awesome for the Camaro but we will miss out unfortunately. Ive been on a diet of Zf26hps and love the multi speed autos. Great review again please well done.

oooofffttt is v cool but for that sort of money im sure everyone here would prefer a VF clubby LSA or fg typhoon with money for mods left haha ;) but dang that 8 speed is snappy on upshifts The clubby probably handles better, brakes better, more power, nicer interior even though older...plus would own a country icon/legend!!! would love to see a comparison on the internet one day!

So much better to get the Corvette. I mean they couldn't even be bothered mirroring the centre console properly. They just left it as is, which would be an issue in a manual.

I think a lot of people misunderstand muscle cars overseas. The Camaro is all about performance first above all, no luxurious. Not really you’re fault though, mark up is insane for you guys! I paid $36000 $(51,000 AUS)for my ‘18 Camaro SS 1LE with 16,000 KM. Love the Camaro but I just could not own this car if I had to pay $107,000 or $75,000 USD!!! Also, the Camaro is not meant to have a luxurious interior like a BMW or Mercedes. GM cut some cost in order to make this car cheaper and more attainable here in the States. Due to Mark up and the right hand conversation cost is where things get tricky for the folks overseas. Also, the screen is tilted down like that to minimize glare from the sun. It’s a non issue for manual drivers.

@@juano9833 Exactly. I think around the $60-70k mark would be a fair price here in Australia and they would probably find a lot of buyers at that price. I think a $10-20k markup for right hand drive conversion is probably reasonable but every time a right hand drive conversion is done they just double the price (or more) and lean into the forced rarity of it to justify the price.

2ss is the trim level, 1ss base trim, HSV only imported 2ss`s. Price was more than the mustang due to conversion cost which HSV did in mass production to keep costs down as much as possible. price was comparable to outging clubsport so wasnt that expensive really, but prices are up now due to exclusivity and rareity, how many Camaros do you see compared to Mustangs on the road? Camaros will not be produced in US after 2024. Thanks Ross for the review.

I’ve been a Ford man all my life. Cortina’s , XP XY Falcons , 289, 302 ,351. And my present car , a FG turbo but between the Camaro and the Mustang I’ll take the Camaro. The motor is simpler with one cam and is a lot more compact. It just looks mean and angry.

I had my 2018 black Camaro 2SS and recently just bought another Skyline 350GT, they are very different cars but man they are both very fun to drive, the Camaro V8 sounds like angry tiger and you just feel the punch keep coming from the back with even don’t have to smash down to the gas paddle, I have to say HSV done a great job to converted it with right hand drive, there’re some little issues of course but overall you have a a big powerful monster which will make you forget about the minor imperfections. I just realised Ross done a review for the skyline 350GT too recently, that’s a another beautiful machine as well, I love the VQ engine too, unlike my Camaro, 350GT accelerates very smoothly and quietly, but it goes very fast too, it’s sad to see 350GT seems not very much popular and appreciated here in Sydney but please drive it and be fair, it is fast, comfortable and less issue low maintenance car, my one never had any issue since I bought it, still feel like a brand new and I only spent a little over $15k with only 70k mileage, Yes, these Europe luxury cars can get you lots of fancy technology but pretty much you get more than enough from the 350GT too, cannot compliant especially for the money you pay and all things you get from it.

The 2019 2SS is about $45k USD or $65K AUD plus add $20k to convert. So HSV barely made any $ on these cars. I am sure they are making more $ on the Chevy trucks. Low KM 2SS are selling for $100k now. The 2SS cars imported by HSV have factory option sports exhaust with the electronic butterfly’s which sounds fantastic with the overrun crackle. I also had a 2016 VF GTS and the only good feature on that car is the front seats which are the best I have sat in. The LSA is a pig on fuel - drive it like a granny and you only get 280kms from a 71 litre tank. Put the foot down and you get 25L per 100kms ! Also the stock exhaust on the LSA is total crap sounds like a vacuum cleaner not a V8. The handling on the 2SS is almost like a Porsche - The VF does not compare.

having owned both i tell you now. the mustang is a colossal pos car compared to the camaro. these cars handle like a proper sports car. the mustang drives like a 1983 ford sierra. the s550 is a joke of a car. they also have crap low torque motors. the camaro small block pushrod v8 is incredible

Damn.. Mustang r spec is the better car.. but you will feel arguably more bad ass in the Camaro just because rarity and looks

Hopefully the cylinder deactivation doesn’t work the same way it did with the LS1 engines because that was the reason a lot of those motors blew up. It had something to do with fuel still dripping into the cylinders that were supposed to stop producing power and after doing that when the engine got about 80,000 kilometres on them is when they would detonate themselves. The reason this would happen was pour design in the plate that was under the manifold which was supposed to stop fuel getting to the the cylinder that had not needed it and then when it was overtaking area people would put their foot down then more or to much fuel would be in the cylinders that now have just got another big dose of it and eventually the block would throw a foot out of bed and Holden would never own up to the fault

They are not actually that different. The 8 speed is based on then 6 speed. The LT1 6.2l is based on the LS3 6.2L. Came out the same factory. It's a bit pricey tho. You could buy a HSV for less and spend a lot on mods. I for one will be buying neither tho. Would love to see someome pull their LS3 out and stick an LT and the 8 speed, no actually the 10 speed in there. Bet the first poster never thought of that one tho. Another idea would be to rebuild the LT as a 416 stroker. Havent heard of any commodores running the LTs yet as swaps.

Yes way better its a Camaro by Chevy not a Ford. Especially better because it's not mustang. Not hating on Ford but Chevy is way cooler and I would say it rivals the HSV but I wouldnt say it's better. I'd say equal. I'd prefer European over American.

Aussie manufacturing finished up as no one was buying their mainstream cars as they all got sucked into the SUV thing. Not profitable for their head offices in the US and our goverment ceased subsidising them with taxpayers money, no brainer really, we got shat on. Whilst the Camaro and Mustang are desirable they aren't really that affordable most.

The Camaro wasn’t really affordable. Getting a Camaro was a headache and the extra cost just isn’t worth it for what they are you were better off just getting a Mustang or something else altogether and saving some $$$. There’s a reason that there’s heaps of Mustangs around that’s because they are “affordable” to an extent and because they were made RHD from factory unlike the Camaro that had to be brought over here and converted from LHD and would cost a decent whack of $$$ more than the Mustang.
