This is the only G-Shock I now wear for work and recreation specifically because like all G-Shocks, they're durable and cheap and have all the necessary functions. Also, for "beater" purposes, the 2100 is as thin as you'll get for a G-Shock, so the watch doesn't look like a brick on your wrist and it doesn't get in the way. The 2100 has a very nice looking design. I highly recommend the 2100-A and the white markers and hands make it legible.

The g shock bezel really does a great job preventing scratches. I don’t recall ever scratching one and I wear them for everything.

This is a great watch - I reach for this a lot as a daily wearer. You don’t have to worry about it - the gray hour markers are easier to read then the black ones, but the black one is awesome. The ga-2100 doesn’t look like a huge toy on your wrist. Anyone not liking these are crazy- they are cool, cheap and dependable. Forget about reading the digital display it’s too small

"If you can just have one of these, maybe you should just have both." A perfect summary Guy. I don't have a Casioak but I do have a few squares both positive and negative display versions. By far for readability the positive displays are much better but may not look quite so cool in some of the designs. For me I think my favourite is the 5610 positive display that has a solar cell and atomic clock sync. I'll take a look at the Casioak at some point but only with a positive display, as for the lack of lume on the markers that would be preferable but not a deal breaker. Many thanks for sharing. Oh and there is a Bluetooth solar version now available but obviously more expensive. Casio have also replaced the app (I use this for my full metal squares) and I've yet to get the thing to work, there was nothing wrong with the old app. Hopefully they will sort it out soon.

GA-B21001a and 9a are with tough solar and with positive display. Solved your concern with battery power and legibility issue. Just $50usd more than GA-2100.

I have both a square (gwm 5610) and a casio oak (with the metal silver bezel). Both are great watches. However, I tend to wear a 3rd g shock (ga2000) more often. It just conforms to my wrist better than the other two.

Nice video! Thanks for that. I have been thinking for a while of getting one of these. Prefer the positive display, but still small. I like the square design and would probably go with the G-5000u-1 positive display as my ultimate square G. I basically rotate between my MRW-200H black dial white numerals, my AE-1200whd and my G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1 which covers most bases. Still on the fence on the Ga-2100, probably get the G-Square over that. Keep up the good videos.

I own this watch, and for me its simplicity was the main reason for bying, in theese "smart watch" times. The smart watch tend to be a big deal nowadays, and that makes me appreciate the simplicity of the Oak even more. I think now you can buy it with more advanced functions, at a higher price tag. I am a total watch geek, but I own very few watches. I have two watches now, the other one is the Visodate with some additional straps. My Oak is my dayli beater, and for that porpouse it is a great peace. I was thinking to maybe step ut the game a bit, to have may me one more in rotation, maybe the Baby MM or the Arnie from Seiko. Time will tell😀😀😀. But for now, the Oak is it. Great rewiew.

Those who hate this should try GA-B2100, the Bluetooth varient of this watch, simply connect to your phone via Bluetooth and done, time setting with take care of that. The light in the BT version the wayyyy better and it also connect with solar charging. The cost difference is of $50 If I'm not wrong.

Great video, I enjoyed that, I’ll take your DW5600 though and raise you my GW-M5610U-1ER, only £100 brand new and it’s a far better quality movement and watch, plus it’s got the red line around the dial so looks extremely like the original 1983 G shock. I highly recommend it my friend, you won’t wear the DW5600 any more!!! Anyway the Casioak, I’m just not sure about it, I’ve been looking at them for a long time and I don’t know why but there seems to something not quite right for me about it, I’ll definitely stick with my square 👍🏻

The negatives: * Mineral glass. For the G-Shock standard, 10-10-10, scratching is preferable to shattering. Why do people who understand the G-Shock philosophy even have the "minor complaint" about sapphire crystal? Especially for the sub-$200 options? * Negative display: The GA2100BCE-1A has a positive display, at $120 instead of $100. It was not available in May 2023, but other positive-display models may have been. * Lume on hour markers: Hopefully a person wearing an analog-digital hybrid watch knows how to read approximate time without needing hour markings. * Advanced features: the GAB2100-1A has solar and Bluetooth, at $150 instead of $100. Still "affordable". I'm a fan of both, just bought a 5000-series G-Shock yesterday. But it seems odd to find negatives which already have solutions.

I have this very same model. It’s over hype. Small digital displays, small date display and mediocre waterproofing. After wearing it for 3 years, sweat and water 💧 ingress into the case back. You would be surprised how narrow the gap between case and back.

I have the GW-B5600BC-1B its a square with basically all the bells and whistles (bluetooth atomic time solar negative display etc) believe its only a jdm model you do pay a premium for all the features and might be hard to buy considering how much more it costs than the base offering. But for me having a watch that won't need a battery or adjust the time for prolly the next 15+ years is worth it.

ga vs ga-b... I don't know yet. I like you like this style with the white indicies but the solar is such anice feature making the watch pretty much last forever. Do you know if the batteries are easily changed? also the regular ga2100 can be easily modded, the indicies are attached to the movement instead of the glass which makes removal a breeze.

It seems the negative display watches in general are somewhat difficult to read. Now, when I buy a new watch, I go for the positive display. There are other Chinese watchmakers out there that make the same style watch, with many of the same functions (probably same module) for a fraction of the cost of a Casio. You can get a CasiOak look-alike anywhere between $9 and $20 US. They are not the same quality as the Casio, but for the price point, are a good alternative if you don’t want to spend the money on the Casio. These other companies have way more and interesting color combinations, and even have them with a positive digital display!

It seems surprising that you purchased the regular GA over the GAB seeing as the GAB would be a better fit with your needs, but it's each to their own.

I bought a used one and the metal one and not sure of the model number. I’m trying to set it and didn’t come with the manual. I pressed a few buttons and not the light come on each time I pick it up and moved. Not sure if it’s running low on butteries or if mine is defective. Yes, unfortunately, the Casioak is over-hyped. Its readability-factor is terrible. The functionality-factor is even worse. It’s way too difficult and frustrating to change settings. I ended up giving it away.

@@JustBlueFish , yo. I had to watch a couple videos each time I had to set the time and date and I found the teeny tiny pushers a major pain to use. Oh, and the light was pretty much useless as it was so dim. I had the olive green version that looked great.

The "Casioak" is only over-hyped if you are an old-school "Get off my lawn" type of G-Shock purist. I purchased my first Gshock 2 years ago, a Casioak. I have since purchased many other G-Shock models, much to my wife's chagrin. The GA-2100 is just as much a G-Shock as any other non-Casioak. It has been absolutely bulletproof. I love a good 5600, but I also love analog watches. If you want a stylish, analog, indestructible watch...GA-2100 all day. ALL. DAY. Full stop. Nevermind the haters. If you like the way the watch looks. Buy it.
