@ I only stream, no games, no nothing else, just movies & series. The Firestick is a very close second. I am on my 2nd Apple Tv 4K. They are not worth it just for streaming and far too expensive.

You're certainly correct that it can't handle very high bit rate video files. I installed the Plex app on it to play 4K Dolby Vision movies such as "Back To The Future" which has peak bitrates over 100mbps. It drops frames and the GC 4K will crash when trying to fast forward. It's fine with the Apple TV app running 4K Dolby Vision series such as "Ted Lasso." I bought a "VEMONT USB C hub with Gigabit Ethernet" from Amazon and it does utilize the 1mbps Ethernet bandwidth so I'm guessing that the processor in the GC 4K dongle is simply not powerful enough. I might try the Nvidia Shield TV Pro. Oh yeah, the remote I got with it is pretty crappy. The buttons wobble so much that I have to press the buttons precisely in the center of the button.

Hey i see you have Stremio on your chromecast, i have a fire stick 4k max and there is a black screen when i try to watch Dolby Vision/HDR10+ movies on Stremio, i heard that this is because fire stick doesn't have all Dolby Vision Profiles, and i also heard that Chromecast 4k has all profiles and run smooth, did you have any issue while watching 4k Dolby Vision movies/tv shows on Stremio? Other than a bit of stutter on stremio (fixed with a reset), i've never had any problems playing hdr10+ or dolby vision, both work pretty flawlessly.

Regarding Chromecast FPS drop it is a well know issue. You just have switch on 'Diasble the HW Overlay' in the dev options. It reset to off automatically after update so you have to turn on again from time to time.

I was curious about this because when I moved into my house 2 years ago we were dead broke. I had a Galaxy S9 with a smashed display, i thought i clould use it with Dex to watch KZbin Revanced on for the time being, then i used it for Disley plus for my son and then Netflix and Prime video for my wife, BeeTV & Moonlight for myself to stream my pc & then xbox game pass. I now have one in each room connected to a dock with pass through charging, mouse and keyboards & i highly doubt I'll go back to any other setup. It's worth a go if you have a drawer of old phones 😁 -edit: It's that good i also purposefully bought a broken S20 for £45 specifically for a diy tablet featuring 14" 10 point touch laptop display, ugreen dock for 256gb+ storage & usb ports for peripherals, 10,000mah battery bank, encased inside a 3d printed case. I was thinking of making it a youtube video but idk

My 2016 4k Samsung TV is getting a bit slow and no longer supports all streaming services. Hopefully the chromecast will solve that because I don't want to throw away a TV that still works fine.

@ScrappyCoCo0 This is the perfect use case scenario for a Chromecast, or any android/TV box for that matter. TVs get slow on the software side of things over time because they tend to be fitted with pretty bottom of the barrel components when it comes to the computer end. However, the actual display and basic TV capabilities last much longer since, of course, a TV is a monitor 1st and a computer 2nd, so way less compromises are made when it comes to the actual screen. My only advice is make sure you buy the 4k model of the Chromecast to take full advantage of your TVs 4k capability.

I would suggest the new ONN Box 4k Pro or The Fire Cube. More expensive But much better hardware. Otherwise give the latest Fire Stick 4 Max a try. It's worse than the Fire Cube and ONN box But the best stick that Fire has ever released.

Yes, you still have to subscribe to any services you want to use. So basically, what a chromecast is most most useful for is the same thing a Smart TV is useful for, like KZbin, Netflix, etc. Only the chromecast (or any trusted Android TV box) is a lot more powerful than what you'd find in most smart TVs, resulting in better video quality and audio quality. On top of that, it runs Android TV, which conveniently allows you to sideload apps you won't find on something like the playstore or appstore. What that means is that it opens up doors to allow you to use apps that can let you watch movies and show for free (which, of course, I don't condone). Basically, your TV is a monitor first, and computer second. Whatever hardware your TV has inside can not be replaced, resulting in a slow and choppy experience using the software provided. An android box like the Chromecast eliminates that problem.

I have the cheaper 1080p version, and for 20 bucks, it really can't be beat. Not to mention I can use it as a steam remote play endpoint to play computer games in my home theater with minimal latency. It's the best thing after Asus decided to brick all the Nexus players with a forced update.

Of course, but make sure the monitor has built-in speakers because the chromecast outputs sound through HDMI and doesn't have a physical audio out port. Alternatively, you could have a Bluetooth speaker or soundbar.

please don't buy these. the older ones are so much easier to set up and are more flexible in terms of control. i lost the remote to this and i couldn't set the chromecast up for a new tv/location w/o the remote. losing the remote and then factory reseting the chromecast essentially bricks it so you have to buy a new remote or chromecast altogether. and what makes it even more stupid is whne you first set it up out of the box, you don't need the remote, just google home app on your phone but if you factory reset and don't have the remote, you're shit out of luck. the old chromecasts, you can factory reset as much as you'd like and move the chromecast to any tv/house you'd like and it would setup easily, no remote needed. also, now with this model, if another person attempts to cast, their device takes over control and stops playback of whatever the previously connected device was playing. with the older models, if another person on same wifi network attempted to cast, they would just get synced to whatever was currently playing, and can add their choices to queue thereby not interrupting what's currently playing from other devices. this model is a huge step backwards google. ya'll keep trying to fix what's not broken.

Shield is GARBAGE! Watching on a projector, where you CAN see picture quality, the Chromecast slaughters it in every way, especially with picture! Secondly it will stream atmos perfectly and Shield doesn't at all...
