Awesome video I really enjoyed it! I know Ford recommends changing oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, but I believe you could greatly reduce or eliminate lots of these engine problems by changing oil every 4-5,000 miles. If you only plan on keeping your car 60 or 80k then it probably doesn't matter. But for people who wanna go 200,000 plus, I would say 4-5,000. Your turbocharger will also last longer. And I know lots of people drive these pretty hard.

I bought a “new old stock” 2016’ Focus RS with 105 miles in ‘18. The dealership reassured me it had a headgasket recall inspection. At 12,000 miles I went mod crazy, turboback high flow cat exhaust, mountune intercooler, mountune breather plate, Dual Radium catchcans: crank, and cam. 14psi wastegate actuator, uprated recirculating valve, mountune full intake and kn filter, mountune charge piping. A Cobb accessport and dyno tuned 360HP/410FTLBS at the wheels. Sitting at 42,000 trouble free miles today. Enjoy your vehicles however you want people. The only thing I would encourage is a crank ventilation catch can. I change oil not based on miles but seasonal, late summer and spring, pcv catchcan usually spits out 2-3oz of oil the cam vent can has never seen a drop.

You can modify it but if you expect it to not fail you can't drive it like a normal car. My Ecoboost had no real problems till the day I sold it at like sixty something thousand miles. Was tuned for E30 since like 7000 miles. Daily drove on my more conservative 370ish who tune but could get more out of it on the more aggressive map. Always made sure to let oil temp get right, address all misfires, change oil religiously and watch charge temps as well as oar. 2.3s with higher hp are super picky with gap and need to get oil to operating temp. Also you WILL get bad ethanol at some point so I always watched my oar. Not doing these things is why many people blow them up.

Most definitely not buddy, you sound like a loser who doesn't know anything about cars. Reason why cars fail when tune is a bad tuner or a design flaw mostly with American models. The new 2.3L ecoboost is redesign to take more power. Japanese cars are great for modification and can definitely still be reliable. The honda civic Type R or the accord 2.0t can be modified to 400whp safety, some people have 500whp doing just fine.

I am on my third ecoboost engine, I had a 2010 Flex with the 3.5 I loved driving that couch but didn't keep it long enough to develop or see any issues. I then had a 2012 Edge with the 2.0 ecopoop and I traded it at 125K miles, I had zero issues with the motor or tranny. I currently have a 2019 Ranger which is my daily driver. At 50K miles I have had (knock on my wooden head) zero issues with the 2.3. I love driving it, have driven it on many roadtrips commonly seeing 23 mpg on these trips. Main thing, like what is said in the video is quality oil. I use Mobil 1 and typically change it 50% oil life remaining, which works out to around 6K miles between changes. Have driven it with outside temps at 117 driving through Needles CA on a trip with zero issues with engine temps. All engines can have problems, the majority of these are caused by mods or lack of maintenance. Most of the sites on KZbin like to get clicks, I have watched a ton of videos on KZbin about many different subjects and they are typically blown out of proportion. The mechanical malfunction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost unit is linked to the head gasket, which fails to seal the engine block to the head correctly. Long term heat exposure warps the block preventing the head gasket from forming a watertight seal between the two engine components.

As far as carbon buildup goes, would putting Seafoam or old-school carb cleaner in the intake be effective in removing the buildup on the intake valves?
@8020Media
@8020Media 9 ай бұрын
J - Seafoam, carb cleaner, and other products can help to some extent, but the effectiveness varies. If there is a lot of carbon buildup already, I wouldn't expect these products to wipe off the existing buildup. However, if the valves are caked, you may want to look into manually cleaning the valves. So it all depends on how much buildup there is.

Catch can is a great investment. CRC will definitely help a bit, alternatively you can just get it walnut blasted every 60-80k miles. With a catch can you won't have as much buildup and it also really doesn't affect the engines reliability, just slowly takes away some performance but I'd imagine you won't have any serious carbon buildup issues until the 100k mile mark or so.

M1ca - I would advise not going to a dealer to get this service done because they will likely charge a lot more than a shop would. Hi Todd, did you ever figure out what the issue was on your Mustang EcoBoost? The 2.3 EcoBoost is an interference engine so if the timing chain stretched, a guide failed, etc. then the pistons and valves could collide if the chain jumped enough teeth. That's a very rare and unlikely failure, though. Hopefully it turned out (or turns out) to be something much less severe.

80k miles isn't too much to be concerned about - I'd say the main thing is just maintenance history. Make sure it's been properly taken care of, gotten oil changes on time, not tuned or beat to crap with mods, and so on. So long as it's been properly maintained and you don't notice any issues while driving you shouldn't have much to worry about. Does help if you know what you're looking at in an engine bay to inspect hoses and belts and things like that but also not something that will be a major problem if it turns out there is a bad hose or something. Make sure the turbo seems good - not making any rattling noises, boosts properly, etc.

@8020Media
@8020Media 5 ай бұрын
Yes, WMI can absolutely help in both cases but it's unlikely to totally resolve the issues. The volume and flow simply isn't enough to totally eliminate carbon build-up, but it will help slow down the process. How much it slows down depends on how often you're triggering the WMI and how much you're spraying. As for IAT, WMI will help a lot but a larger, more efficient intercooler will help further (and the benefits are constant compared to WMI which will only cool temperatures once it's actually triggered).

I'm living a nightmare with my 2.3 ecoboost. I saw a royal crimson mustang on the new lot in 2018 and immediately fell in love with the color. About 3 years ago I had a Cobb stage 2 kit installed (intake, intercooler, access port with stg 2 tune). Fast forward to this year at 30k miles the engine granaded itself on a usual commute. Put a new Ford longblock in it and now I feel like I can't trust this POS. I'm ready to dump it. Could really use some advice becuase I like think I'm responsible with it, and I know I didn't put out any massive power with those 3 mods. So I honestly cant figure out why it blew up

Sometimes it's honestly luck of the draw on the engine - even a small manufacturing defect could cause something like this or a weird one-off internal problem that had nothing to do with the mods you put on it. Did you get any insight from Ford on what caused it?
@Raul.Ultimate
@Raul.Ultimate Жыл бұрын
@@8020Media nope, they washed their hands of it the minute they checked key counts, and they aren't that bright anyways. But no. 4 piston self deleted and put a hole in the back of the block. I bought a new long block from Ford (was actually cheaper than a used motor from a salvage yard, and I was hoping that updates and revisions to the new motor would make it alittle more reliable) and have an independent shop putting it in, but they said the same thing they cant see the Cobb kit doing that either

Just replaced the engine in my 2019 completely stock 2.3 ecoboost mustang after it threw a connecting rod through the crankcase while backing out of a parking spot. Ecoboom seems an appropriate name. I love the car but let’s be honest the engine has flaws that ford needs to address.

Can these engines last 150,000-200,000 miles? With proper maintenance
@8020Media
@8020Media 6 ай бұрын
Yes, the 2.3 EcoBoost can absolutely last 150,000 to 200,000+ miles with proper maintenance. These topics are always challenging, though. Maintenance goes a long way, but some of it also comes down to luck of the draw. There will surely be some "duds" out there that don't make it to that mileage even with proper maintenance, repairs, etc.

I don't understand why people try to mod the V6 and four cylinder Mustangs. Either buy the V8 or hold out until you can get the upgrade. The 2.3's are trash. They should have put the 3.5 ecoboost in them, but then it would have competed with the 5.0.

2.3 waa absolutely not ever in the ST... "Ecoboom" is synonymous with the head gasket issues...no sense in mentioning it twice... Incorrect head gaskets made it out of the factory until July 3, 2017...that's well over an entire year of production...

Pasha - I want to make sure I’m understanding you properly. You’re saying the 2.3 EcoBoost was NEVER in an ST? Regardless if it’s the “ecoboom” just because of the head gaskets or not, it’s still referred to as the “EcoBoom”. So not sure why you’re offended by facts, but we’d sure love to hear more.

@@8020Media My apologies, was only consodering the US-sold models. The 2013-2018 ST came from the factory with a 2.0 ecoboost, which was a very different (and older) architecture. Closed deck instead of open deck, lacking forged rods/crank during ST production, different stroke, different compression ratio. My point woth "ecoboom" is that the video makes it seem like you're talking about 2 separate things...merely suggesting that "ecoboom" is the phenomenon that occurs when the head gasket fails and the head lifts, and that they are not 2 separate things.

I semi disagree with the engine doesn’t spontaneously combust. I have a 2.3 mustang. Engine completely spontaneously combusted at 64,500 miles in a parking lot. High pressure fuel pump detonated and metal fragments could thus be found everywhere through the whole engine, completely totaled motor it was horrendous. And at 12,500 dollars to replace it was nowhere near cheap either. Completely garbage motor and engine. Sits in my driveway now because if I drive it I know it’s going to explode or something.

Stop beating it like it’s a V8 😂 I have a 2015 ecoboost which I left stock for obvious reasons. The people I see who have problems with the ecoboost are people who literally every time they get in the car want to do 0-60 in 2-3 seconds 😂. Stop with the tuning if you want something powerful and faster just get the GT. There’s a reason why they make different engine options. The ecoboost is meant for a daily not a tuner car although it can make great power why not just get the GT it has the power your trying to get your ecoboost too.
