Harvey was nice enough to let us try out their dust processor. After spending some time with it, I now have a new favorite modern day manufacturer for woodworking. Keep pushing the limits Harvey Industries!

Love the attention to detail and noise attenuation, but I hope they're working on a model with a smaller footprint. For a 2-car garage woodworker, I'm always looking for quieter tools (especially the dust collector) however space is at an absolute premium. I could build a sound deadening enclosure around my existing 2-stage DC and get it down by at least 10db but the loss of floorspace is holding me back.

actually this thing doesnt take much room compared to my current unit (home made blower with cyclone) since you can fit it under a bench/table.

I was so close to pulling the trigger on this. Had quote and freight lined up. But I wasn't happy with the total CFM at 60Hz and ended up spending a few more $$ and went with Oneida. Beautiful product and some nice engineering though.

I feel ya. I had a massive laguna at my old shop and it lived outside because it was so damn loud. This little Harvey definitely holds its own, it’s all how well you run your piping. Unless of course you plan to run 3-4 big machines at a time in which case this probably won’t work for you. We typically don’t run more then 2 and the Harvey is only on our big stuff. Jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, cnc. Love it

I have one, pros- it's quiet, does it's job, cons- it's VFD ran, so it takes about 10-12 seconds to spool up, when you go up to rip a quick piece or few, you're done cutting before the dust collector even starts to run. Extremely annoying, another con is that its vfd controlled you can't hook it up to the ivac system or any other automatic dust control system, so you have to turn it on, wait and then do your cuts, not ideal for production. My biggest gripe with harvey isn't the dust collector per say, its a good machine if you don't mind the cons, the big issue is the price, they keep dropping the price and having sales, that can also be a pro if you get it at the right time but I have a bad case of buyer remorse, I paid over 3k for my unit, waited over two months for delivery and while I was waiting for my unit as a slap in my face I got an email from Harvey that the g700 was on sale for 2,000, a thousand dollars less than what I paid for it... you can imagine how pissed I was seeing that email, not only did they delay my shipment, the unit upon arrival was worth nearly 50% less than what I paid for it. Lesson learned, never buy anything from harvey until it's been out for a few years, at that point they figure out how much they can get for the tool, at launch they always try to rip the first comers off to see who'll bite.
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely hear you on that. I can’t really speak to their pricing but I’d be upset also. When it came out it was just under $4k. The fact that they can sell it for close to $2k now is amazing and I assume it’s due to high sales. I honestly love the machine and the fact that it’s on a vfd is really cool in my opinion. The most talented woodworker I know who trained under krenov changes everything he can to vfd controls. Even his router table.. switched out to a spindle with vfd controls. The power is more dynamic and efficient. In a production shop you probably rarely turn the machine off except to empty it which is why sound is so important to me. I definitely feel your pain though in terms of you being an early adopter of the new tech. It’s like when you buy the new latest and greatest tv. The price is always higher at first because of the investment risk. Tech gets cheaper in quantity and the prices drop to the consumer.

For your sized shop, do you feel you always have enough suction/flow? Using multiple tool at the same time? Or now using it you would buy more next level g-800 or - g-1000?
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. After using it for a while I quickly discovered that as amazing as it is, we need the g-1000. We will mill through 1000-1500 bdft of hardwood in a day

Hey man thanks for the feedback. I know it’s hard to trust people and reviews these days especially if there is paid advertising happening. To be completely honest with you though, I only work with brands I already use and/or believe in. I was buying this dust processor with or without sponsorship and I reached out to them because I was interested in the high quality products they keep putting out time and time again. The things I touch on in this video are my real thoughts and experiences with the dust processor. The only thing I was asked to say is who I am and what I like about it. That’s the best way to do business because nothing is forced! Hope this helps and I will talk about it more in future videos. Thanks for the support!

I’ve got a Laguna C Flux 3 and while I love the suction, it’s hard to justify the noise. It’s really, really loud. It’s rated at 88 dB. The plan for the new shop is to build a closet around it.

I have both, cflux 3 and the g700, the c flux runs all my machines while I put the g700 on my cnc. The wait time for it to spool up kills it for me, way too annoying especially if you're just making a few cuts, cflux is a beast and I love it. I made a little closet with filters and solid rock wool insulated top for it, that reduced the noise drastically. I have an ivac system with a sensor I placed outside the closet that shows me how full the bin is. Wouldn't trade the laguna for anything,
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 3 жыл бұрын
@@thewoodologist8176 I can see that being annoying for the way you are using it. I have my miter saw on it on separate dust collector with an auto instant switch because waiting for spool up on a single miter saw cut would be annoying. I think if you reversed your set up you’d appreciate the Harvey more. We have the table saw, jointer, planer, band saw, and cnc all on the Harvey. That 5 second spool up has always been ready before I’m sending wood through. Absolutely love it

I'm trying to get over the more cfm debate! this little machine looks like it has plenty of power if you only use it on one or two machines at a time. I am a huge wood working hobbyist with some big machines and i always though that i needed a big DC, i am currently on my third unit and was about to purchase an Oneida yesterday, know I'm seriously considering the G-700, if used correctly, it should be plenty of machine. Are you still using yours or have you upgraded at the new shop?
