Is the Hummer H3 a collector item? Well, that's a great question and in this video, I discuss the key components that make this such a good midsize SUV. Over the next 5-10 years, we will see the supply of these Suv's dwindle, especially those with lower mileage in good condition. Supply is not the only driving factor though. When this SUV was launched we had a serious economic downturn and high gas prices. We no longer have high gas prices "currently $2 a gallon where I'm located". In 5-10 years, depending on economic conditions and demand for gasoline-powered vehicles, we may see this become a prized item. At the very least, you are left with an off-road beast. Thanks for checking out the video and please subscribe!

Because people expected an updated military grade civilian version of an H1. What we got was a GMT 355 Platform vehicle which was basically a Chevy Colorado so people hated it for cheaping out. Oh and the horrible gas mileage didn't help either.

Hi! I own a 2007 h3 and I love this vehicle! My hummer is truly the best rig I have ever driven. They are way misunderstood. They are strong, comfortable, fun and solid as a rock! One thing they are not is fast. The gear ratio was not built for speed for sure. I want to buy one more for fun and not a daily driver! I wish they would make them again. I would be all in! Thanks for this post!!!!!

Same! We bought our 07 manual H3 five years ago with only 48k miles in near factory condition. It’s now in the upper 120k’s and we’ve really put it through its paces here in the PNW summer and winters including hitting a couple deer and having to get various components repaired or replaced. One thing I absolutely agree on though is it is one of the slowest vehicles I’ve ever driven, and feels like a little tank chugging along while everyone else passes you haha. The one thing our model lacks though is the front diff locks. Ours only had rear but did come with a full roof rack!

Have you had any overheating issues? My 2007 H3 overheated the other day(got all the way to the red at idle then dropped fast once we started moving and I cranked the heater just in case) could def smell that sweet coolant smell. I checked the radiator hose and I pulled the coolant cap and watched the flow on a cold start. The fan is kicking on but it seems like it isn't pushing the coolant properly. Help! I JUST replaced the injectors and plugs and may need a new fuel filter or pump. Any suggestions? Thr vehicle is MINT otherwise.

Custom roof basket, tent on the roof, awning on the driver's side on the truck, tow hitch, snorkel, custom ladder off and FJ Cruiser, flip hood like the Hummer H1, extra gas cans on the back door, black and tan leather interior, tinted windows. I had owned two H2’s that I bought from a local dealer in 2008 and 2010. I loved them and kept them in pristine condition. My dealer had called me up in 2009 and said since you’re a good customer I’m offering you an opportunity to purchase a very limited H2. I arranged a meeting with him and did purchase a hummer H3 Championship Edition. I was told only about 600 were produced. It is fully equipped loaded vehicle, with adventure/ off road package and all the goodies. I bought primarily for investment purposes. I only have 2,100 miles on it. The interior stills smells like new! I’m going to finally start to enjoy my NEW 2009 vehicle, and start using as my daily driver.

I have owned my 2008 Orange H3 Alpha since 2010 when I purchased with 20k on it and now have 180k miles. Just spent my first cash on it by replacing front suspension components and rest has been routine maintenance. My two Hummers have been my most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. I live in Minnesota and have never driven any other vehicle better in snow then this vehicle other then the 2006 H2 Luxury which I had for 7 years that was even better though just too big for my daily commute. I have driven both and if you have the opportunity I do believe the Alpha is a better overall purchase then the 3.7L motor in my opinion though are becoming a rare vehicle to find.

All vehicles with a sunroof have the potential for leaks. It's knowing how to care for, or correct the problem causing the leak. Hummer forums have great information, to help resolve the problems causing the leak. And, the steps necessary to prevent future leaking. Love my 2007 H3 Base model. Thanks, for a nice video.

I have the rarest model of all I think... the "X" version. I never see many of them anywhere... is someone hoarding them? :) LOVE MY H3. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Only issues? sunroof leaked when I bought it @ 145k miles. Leaks come from 2 conditions only: gunk in the drain tubes blocking them, and the drain hose disconnecting for random reasons from the sunroof drain tray (they aren't connected very tightly at all and it doesn't take much to dislodge them). If you get water dumped on you from above while driving and turning, then the tubes are clogged. If no water comes from above and only your carpets are completely soaked, then one of the 4 drain tubes has dis-lodged from the drain tray (and your carpets will remain soaked for a VERY long time as the H3 is water-tight!). There are videos on how to fix (involving getting into the headliner) depending on which of the 4 came loose. You can figure out which one by getting some LIGHT weedeater line and standing on the 2 seats, stand up through the sunroof and feed line into each corner drain. Look closely after about 6-8" if you can see it anywhere... that would mean the tube is detached. The other thing you can do is cut the 4 drain grommets open where they dump into the wheel wells, once the tubes are attached and you are sure no tubes are clogged. Routine maintenance is to pour a little cleaner soapy water into each one until it drains out every time you get an oil change. The BIGGEST inconvenient issue with all the H3's is that stupid factory anti-theft system... some of them randomly begin failing to work properly... which kills the ignition for 10 full minutes. The causes are numerous as to why they fail, and the workarounds are also just as numerous (I do not close my door until the engine starts, and I also never slam the key in and turn it quickly and so far that's stopped my "anti-theft" from acting up... and you can also spend $250 and get a "newrockies" bypass module which take the anti-theft system out of the picture completely).

I have a 2007 Hummer H3 Adventure Package with M/T 285/75R16 I bought it with only 74,000 miles on it and now it currently has 83,000 miles on it it has the 5cylinder runs great I did have a few problems a door jam switch went out in it but it was quick cheap easy fix like $9 and less than a minute to install I had to get a new gas cap also my valve cover was leaking along with my radiator so I have a great warranty and took it in is was covered now those are fixed but it still wants to over heat so i burped the system and it helped a little bit but tomorrow i am replacing the thermostat which is easy to get to if you go through the driver side wheel well hopefully that'll fix the over heating issue but other than those things so far it's a great rig my first one I have ever owned and I will tell you the adventure package is awesome I can go just about anywhere I've been in deep snow up to my doors and my hummer goes right though it no problems I have also pulled a stuck semi out of deep mud with this baby I'd say if you have a chance to buy one do it dont think about it just do it

I own a 2009 Hummer H3 with 121, 250 miles, that I alone put on it since September 14, 2009. I changed all fluids at regular maintenance intervals, had new brake pads & rotors installed, all terrain tires were replaced when needed. I had a externally mounted transmission fluid installed in September 2010. I towed a small trailer with the hummer h3 from Albany, NY to Seattle, WA and south to Reno & Las Vegas, NV & east to Albuquerque, NM, Oklahoma City & Albany,NY. I also drove to Florida and back, from 2010 to 2018. NO major problems during my solo road trips. It has been an excellent cross-country road trip camping vehicle for me.

I've done all of the maintenance and up keep since new. It has 222K on it now and I regularly take it on 600 mile road trips. I'm looking for an Alpha to play with. The sunroof leaks were already addressed to many years ago due to the accumulation of dirt from the hose of both front side door panel behind the rubber seals. The end of the hose has these cross-like plug which does not effectively drain out leaves/dirt/etc which eventually cloggs the pipes. Simple solution is just to cut off the plug. No more sunroof leaks.

Love my 2007 H3, but it's been sitting in my driveway for about 2 yrs now. Emotionally attached to it cuz I love it so much, but it needs a new timing chain, and I've been reluctant to invest the $1500-2000 on the repair, then having more issues popping up and making the car a money pit. Other than the timing chain, the only other issues I've had at 100k+ miles are sunroof channels get clogged and leak into passenger seat occasionally, and the a/c doesn't work on extremely hot days.

I have a 2008 H3 alpha and have loved every second of it! It has yet to disappoint on mountain passes, but it's still a very smooth ride on road. Now I'm in no way saying it's fast.. but it can still put a smile on my face when I get on the gas and it gets loud. I plan on owning it for a very long time - whenever the LH8 dies, it's definitely getting an LS or LT heart. Thanks for the video!

Matt Leopard bro i have 3.7 liter and i also like its sound..But if i trade it to 5.3-will a see a great difference in speed up or no? I just bother do I really need to trade it to 5.3 or just just enjoy my i5 because v8 also is not a race car? Thank you for answering

@@volodymyrprosov6134 Hey man I've never actually driven the 3.7, so I can't really speak to how difference you'll feel.. But I've definitely heard the common complaints about the i5's being sluggish though. So as far as the 5.3 is concerned, I personally don't have a complaint with it being sluggish especially for its size. Hopefully you can get a good test drive of an alpha before you have to make that call to decide if it's worth it for you or not

Matt Leopard and what is your 0-60 ?mine with i5 is 10 seconds. But after 60 mph it really hard to speed up to 70-90 mph.And is it truth that with alpha if you will drive over 80-90 mph you are at risk to break front end suspension?

2009 H3, Inline 5cyl, 5spd manual, almost at the 200,000 mile mark. It's a tuff truck for sure. Occasionally I drive over things not to avoid some road hazard but simply because I can. Driving it feels like driving a nimble Army tank. It's heavy and slow but can go anywhere in any weather, and has a tight turning radius so it maneuvers well. There are plenty of quirks with the H3 besides the sunroof. Scroll through some forums you'll learn common issues quickly. Most are easy to address. For example; when the interior lights stay on and the door ajar sign is on in the dash, even though all the doors are closed securely, you need to replace all the door switches, 5 including the rear hatch. They cost about $7 each and take about 2 mins each to change.. Stuff like that. But there's a host of information out there on these trucks, and parts don't seem to be in short supply either. I have a good shop that does maintenance on mine but most small quirks I've been able to address myself. It's a GM truck. If you know those you get it. I'm currently noticing that my reverse lights aren't coming on when I'm backing up, so I'll be checking bulbs and most likely wiring. All that said, I love this truck. I'll keep it as long as it will run. I bought it because it reminded me of a G.I. Joe toy vehicle from my childhood. It's fun to drive, especially in the snow, and it's different, unlike the Wrangler which is basically every other car on the road where I live. Gas mileage is manageable in the stick shift. I just plan on spending more on gas when I really want to open her up, but mostly around town and short trips I can make her sip it. I don't think I'd use this as a family SUV, run the kids to practice and dance class type vehicle. I'm a guy with a dog, who doesn't mind being slow on the road but likes the ability to drive straight off into the woods if I want to, I don't have to run a thousand errands a day in this thing. For that I'd say get an Audi Q5.

06 Hummer 03, Inline 5. 125k miles. Owned it since it was new. Just a few issues. Leaking in the sunroof, had to replace the exhaust. The main thing was I was off roading in Death Valley and out of nowhere my side curtain airbags deployed. It was out of warranty so I had to spend about 4500 replacing them. Otherwise, it's been awesome.

Just bought a 2019 Hummer H3X ....... 68,000 miles from Florida - found our from owner! FEEL BLESSED !!! Spent most of time in a garage - NO passenger seat wear just a bit on the drivers side! I have always wanted one. Really tragedy when the market went into the dumpster 2009 and 2010. H3 caught up in the market debacle - government market "over site", told to look the "other way" about loans and you know rest ! I know, I was day trading the market. Public thought all Hummers got 14 miles to the gallon so all Hummers went down! I have the straight 5 cylinder and get 19-20 miles to the gallon on the thruways and 15-16 mpg around town. I was VERY fortunate !!

I have a 2008 H3 Alpha with 80 k miles. I love the vehicle, and it is very awesome as an offroad vehicle, and very comfortable highway vehicle, and a great tow vehicle. It pulls my 23 ft boat with ease. One problem the H3's had was the transfer case. It was equipped with a plastic from Borg Warner that will fail, usually before 80,000 miles or so. If you go back with the metal shifting fork you are good to go, and might as well change the drive chain out while you are at it. Also it is getting harder to find some parts. But a all around awesome SUV.

Thanks for a very informative video. In 2008 I bought a gray 2006 H3, still own it, and it currently has 65K miles. In 2011, I bought a black 2009 H3T, still own it, and it currently has 68K miles. The mileage is kept down on purpose because I think these most likely will become collector vehicles. The H3T has a body lift kit installed and runs 35-inch mud tires. Have easily driven both in about two feet of snow. Other than the sunroof slightly leaking and routine maintenance, I've never had any issues with either H3s. BTW, there is a simple inexpensive fix for the sunroof leak. The left sunroof drain is a little time consuming due to its accessibly. The right drain is fairly easy. I absolutely love both these Hummer vehicles!

The H3T Alpha is far and away the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. It has the Adventure package with locking front and rear differentials and full under body armor. It’s a perfect size. Great for a family of 4. Small enough to park and to drive in the woods. You can’t get it stuck. Maybe you could sink it ? It’s quiet on the highway. It’s great in sand, mud and snow. Take it anywhere. It looks awesome. I get compliment daily and it’s sharp enough for business or date night. My woman loves it. It’s overbuilt in every way. I owned and loved a decked out full size bronco when it was new. The H3 Alpha is better in every way. Power, traction, reliability, gas mileage (Who cares, but I get 15 mpg) Its also better than the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon in all those same categories. (The doors and roof aren’t removable though, which is cool with the Gladiator. So, if you want to spend 4 times as much for that have at it.

I own a 2008 Hummer H3 Adventure - it’s the best truck I have ever owned. I am the original owner and it is my second H3! On me current truck my Sun roof leaked. The leaking problem is due to plugs GM used to prevent bugs from getting in on the drainage tubes. Basically the slits are too small! Eazy fix and took me about an hour to fix. Locating and getting to them is the hardest part. The actual fix or drill the hole bigger took less than a minute. 12/10/21 and my 08 adventure has 156k miles and still looks new! Only issue is my front cloth drive seat has worn out a small tear and I am having a difficult time trying to get a replacement cloth cover. Lots of leather replacements available

I own a 2008 H3 that I purchased off the lot new in 2009. It had 500 miles on it and had never been titled. The sticker price was 41,000 and I paid 31,000. I have slightly less than 70,000 miles on it. My wife and I absolutely love it! I’ve done some off-road driving mud sand water etc. I’ve upsized the tires to give it a slightly taller stance. I did have issues with the “leaking sunroof“ which was covered under warranty twice by GM. Once I learned that I have to keep an eye on the drain ports for the sunroof free of debris and periodically run a wire gently through it to ensure it stays clear, I’ve had no other problems. I believe initially the drain tubes were undersized and I’ve been told GM during warranty repairs increased the size of the drain line. I’m sure that’s TMI. I’ve had the coilpack on the front cylinder go bad around 60,000 miles as water leaked past the seal causing it to short out. A quick trip to O’Reilly‘s and a few basic handtools and I replaced it myself and was back in business. This happened while I was on a short out-of-town trip. Again probably TMI. I also did a DIY on the rear CV joint of the front drive shaft. It sounds complicated but you’d be surprised how easy it was. And I assure you I’m no mechanic. Aside from some minor issues on the interior such as lights for controls in the door panel, the switch that controls the lumbar support bladder in the driver seat, couple of dash lights, I’ve had no problems in the passenger compartment. It doesn’t get the best gas mileage with the 3.7 Liter Inline 5 but that’s not what I bought it for and it’s comparable to other SUVs and pick up trucks in that year model. One thing that I find interesting is that from a water fording perspective the air intake really is that rectangular box at the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side. Unlike it’s big brother the H2 where these are only decorative on the H3 that actually serves as the intake and therefore you can go through some pretty deep water before being concerned with sucking air into your engine. If you don’t believe me go check one out yourself and trace the path. It almost has a built-in snorkel. Also the doors have double and triple water seals which helps keep water out. When it rains heavily and floods I actually like driving around looking for deep flooded streets to drive through as i drive around everybody else’s drowned out vehicles. The traction control is pretty damn amazing. I once drove into a sandpit drove circles around a four-wheel-drive Ford pick up that was stuck. I pulled ahead of it backed up to it hooked my tow strap to it and pulled it out of the sand as if my hummer had some sort of magical power! The driver of the Ford could not believe what they were seeing. Needless to say I love this vehicle will probably drive it until the wheels come off if that’s possible. My biggest fear is somehow or another I get in a wreck there’s no way for me to replace it. If they still made them I would buy another! Oh one other thing if you can find a model with the monsoon sound system I don’t know that there is an OEM sound system on the market that can top it! Simply amazing!
