Had mine for 2 years now almost, replaced timing belt and serviced twice and in those 2 years I been putting my foot down everytime, red line it second gear so on, didnt give me no problems at all so it's a solid build never misses a beat, from one angle it looks like Astin Martin and another angle looks like Ferrari so it gets alot of heads whever it goes

These are really good cars as long as you maintain it. The only thing that sucks is parts are hard to find, aftermarket is virtually non existent, especially for the v6. Some words of advice: if you buy one, the first thing you should do is replace the timing belt. Also if you can switch out the rear stabilizer bar for a 22 mm one( I found one from Ultra Racing). The 22 mm bar will get rid of most of the understeer. You'll appreciate it. I spun my Tib around twice last year driving a little too spiritually. The bar negated that. I replaced the stock suspension with new stock pieces, added an Ark Performance fr strut bar, along with the stabilizer bar, the driving experience is on point now. Honestly the most important piece of advice is keep an eye on the timing belt and when you do replace it, replace it with a Gates timing belt and water pump kit about every 50k miles. Love the channel.

Definitely change the timing belt when you get it mine snapped and smacked all the valves , i repaired it, drove for a week then had a milkshake in the radiator

I find when looking at buying a car checking the reg. no. into the MOT database is a good indicator of how it's been looked after, you can check and ensure the mileage adds up as it should especially if it's a lot lower than standard and if there are any serious faults but if you see the same advisories year after year it's a good bet regular maintainance is neglected.

2005 V6 GT, automatic transmission, same color as this one. Bought in 2019 with 130k miles. (US) 170k now and I still love it. Previous owner bought it new and kept it garaged, so the paint is still in great shape, and kept up on the maintenance. I got it pretty cheap because it had minor damage to the front end, making it so the hood latched, but stuck up about an inch. I eventually managed to reduce that to less than a half inch. Being an automatic, I rarely use the hand brake, so that isn't a problem. Replaced the radiator, and inner tie rod and wheel bearing. My only concern has been that it shifts into third gear kind of hard under load. Had two shops look at it and they said there wasn't anything they could do about it without rebuilding it. 18" rims like yours, and I keep it clean and waxed, and shiny! The rear spoiler and the side vent pieces didn't look very good so I painted them satin black. It's the prettiest Tib in town!

Another honest and well thought out video but wished I'd known all this a few years back 😉 I bought my 2007, black with red leather interior, 2ltr back in 2015 with 41k on it. Had no problems at first other than the handbrake being weak and always needs adjusting. I've since put nearly 90k on her and had cambelt replaced, a new clutch, new rear shocks and only now 2022 is it starting to show rust around arches and rear end of cills (she's kept outside in all weathers) and bonnet struts are now weak so don't stay up (my head can testify to this!). Yes she's had a few issues as you can see buuut.... she's been ultra reliable for starting in any weather, is toasty warm in winter with heated seats, the AC is good (needs topping up though), it's got a huuuge boot, looks good even against more modern top name badged cars, has power when needed but remember it's a cruiser not a bruiser and importantly it's cheap to run for its engine size. I love this car and truly believe it will become a future classic. I'm hoping there is a restoration company that deals with these cars as I've no facilities of my own to do the work but desperately want my steed to have the body rust/paint work back to the factory standard but who can you trust to do a good job? She deserves a bit of TLC for all the times she has given me stress free driving and a smile on my face.

I love the red leather/black exterior combo, I almost bought a red leather / gunmetal grey Coupe a few years back, but it turned out to be in much worse condition than advertised so I never ended up with a Coupe. The car in this video also has a weak handbrake, perhaps another fairly common issue. I like how they have gas bonnet struts, makes the car feel more expensive/premium, I was totally expecting the usual metal strut. But less good when they just crash down on your head :D Perhaps the Hyundai Coupe forums would be able to point you out a trustworthy place that can sort these cars out :)

@@JJonCars The good ones are getting rarer to find these days plus secondhand car prices are climbing fast in these parts, SW UK. Yes the handbrake is a well known issue as are brake sensor faults I've been told and had experience of as mine nearly always lights up when first started but if turned off then back on its vanished. Also caliper issues such as sticking, I believe this is due to the brake calipers being overly exposed to the elements. I will take a look at the forums as you suggest and again thank you for the nice reply, video and info. All the very best to you.

I had 4 coupes, my last 09 plate one is in the ownership of my mum, she bought it off me 9 years ago and its still as reliable at 63k. My first was and f2 in black which was a lovely car and faultless as were the 3 later s3 2.0 I had. I replaced the clutch in two of my series 3 myself and it can be done with subframe in place and separate the gearbox far enough to unbolt the clutch and get at the release bearing. My advice is to remove the clutch delay valve out the slave cylinder, gives a better engagement and the clutch will last alot longer! Great to see these videos, I had to part with mine in the end due to needing a bigger car, now driving vw cc r line more practical coupe saloon

4 of them! :) Cool that you can do it with the subframe in place - when I was researching this, I saw one or two people mention they did it, but couldn't tell by the way they were talking, if it was just as much of a hassle to work around the subframe or not. So I thought I'd mention it :) Cool. I've done a video on the Arteon, which is essentially the newer CC, and really liked it. So I'm sure the CC is a decent car!

I've had mine 2007 for 7 years, and it's been mostly reliable. At the moment the boot doesn't open with the key and the high level brake light has stopped working, think these are about £75. But I do love the car, like you said you don't see many of them now and for the money I paid I've got a lot out of it.

I have an 04 Tiburon V6. I'm the 3rd owner and I just hit 178k on it. I've replaced all of the above except the BCM. I've upgraded the suspension to coilovers, strut braces and a 24mm rear sway bar. I put a stage 1 clutch and flywheel in it. One note of advice. The slave cylinder has a sping in it that's supposed to help with shifting but it burns out the clutch faster. If you removed the spring. It will extend the life of your clutch and make the shifts feel better.

I had a 2003 4 cylinder model and it was okay for the most part. Bought in 2005 with like 30k miles, put on about 75k miles and was then written off in a accident ( not my fault). Was so happy to get the pay out haha. It needed a clutch and had some electrical issues. Sunroof issues as well and some other things. 5/10 overall.

One thing I’m surprised wasn’t mentioned was the handbrake issue that is super common. Sliders on the rear callipers seize for fun. But they are great cars. Love my coupe.

I currently have 2 of them. Both coupe 2.0 iii 2008 and 2009. Good looking cars, not fast but reliable as I have them serviced annually when going for an MOT. Have had 4 coupes, including the 2.7 V6 that has a lovely-sounding engine. Very distinctive compared to many bloated cars on the road today.

My 2009 coupe has been super reliable, it has some panels for respray and a very weird thumping noise from the trunk even after redoing the rear suspension and bushings, but I think mine is a specific case from something the previous owner did. Parts are super cheap tho so that's very nice. Props on the great review, glad someone is shedding light on this great car.

I have the same noise also, renewed all the suspension and ARB bushings and drop links and it's still there, if you load up the boot with anything heavy even a decent size grocery shop it goes away.

A simple fix for the rear handbrake may be the disc pad sliders, these seize up. Aftermarket ones can be obtained made of stainless steel. Had mine changed and handbrake was improved. I think it only has to show + 16% efficiency to pass the UK MOT. If you have the auto box handbrake isn't such an issue, with a manual always leave in gear depending on the slope reverse or first!

I just got one. For 3 grand and it has 161k miles. Full tune up done on it, valve cover gaskets, radiator, new AC system, and new shocks. It feels like a solid car. The radio stopped working but I think it’s the cabin light fuse because they run off the same fuse. I know it has warped rotors, but it feels like a solid car. I’m pretty stoked and hope this black beauty will get me by for years to come.

Which is just common sense I would say😂 it just can’t really take a beating but you shouldn’t be beating your cars in general. Too many bad owners treated them poorly and too many people bought them without proper records and inspections cuz they got a “deal” and then they tell everyone they’re horrible because they unknowingly bought a lemon

I'm on my 5th Coupe now - absolutely love them! The gen 1's are the far better cars compared to the newer gen 3/3.5 models - didn't like the gen 3 I had and it stuck around for 3 months before I got my Evo repaired! No, you don't get the 2.7 V6 on the gen 1, but it's quite a bit lighter and the gen 1 2.0 has nearly the same performance! Grab a nice F2 or F2 Evo if you can still find one - they're rare now! I had the Evo and now have a blue F2 and love it. Problems with these cars are as follows: They eat wheel bearings for breakfast! The handbrakes are weak as hell (cables stretch among other things). Rust is the biggest issue on these cars (all models). Underseal is your friend on these cars if done well. As soon as it starts appearing on the rear arches it's trouble and you can usually bet the sill corners will be rotted through, it spreads like wildfire! Loose/rattly trim can be a bit of an issue as well - as nice as these cars are, they are they were built to a budget and plastic ahoy! Automatic boxes are really crap to be honest - far too sluggish to kick up or down, even in sport mode. The 1.6 is all show, no go! Best avoided unless you need to save money on insurance or are worried about MPG, though it's not actually that much better. Having said all of the above, they're a hoot to drive, reasonably nippy if you get an early gen 2.0 and the styling is lovely! Super cheap nowadays, a good example can be picked up for around £1000-£1500.

I rarely comment on KZbin but ..Just wanted to say I have a 2007 gen3 (2007 up)..no issues in 5 years on this except I had to get a kit to polish headlamps.. Before the 2007 I had a gen 2 for around 4 years.. Honestly I purchased the first one as I wanted a cheap car but fell in love with the seating position and especially with the handling in corners. I have only the 1.6 as tax is 514 here for that ..the 2ltr would be around 750 annually.

I've got a 2004 V6 model with 180k miles on it. Developed a clunk in the rear that I've yet to fix, you can only hear it sometimes when braking. Probably a worn bushing somewhere. Recently the engine developed a knocking sound; the car's been in the garage for a few months because life happened, but after taking the engine somewhat apart and replacing some worn components as a matter of maintenance, I suspect what caused that is a worn hydraulic timing belt tensioner. I'll try to remember to post an update once I find out if that solves the problem. Other than that, it's a nice, torquey little car with the cargo capacity of a small van because of the hatchback construction. Looks great, and sounds great - especially after I replaced the rusted out stock mufflers with some fresh shiny ones with a more open design. The sound is now quite reminiscent of something like a 350Z - with the stock mufflers it was almost eerily quiet. The engine is also really stable, with a slight harmonic resonance at around 2000 RPM, other than that it's smooth enough to balance a coin on. Driving it feels very refined, like something you'd expect from a car twice the price. Update: rear clunk was caused by a worn-out swaybar link. Engine knocking was caused by worn timing belt tensioner and cam chain guides.

Bought an 06 recently. Love the car honestly. She runs solid and the exhaust is lovely in my opinion 🤣 The knocking, from what I’ve researched, is most likely a lifter. Don’t hold me to it, but that is what I’ve researched and read reports on. Even read a comment on KZbin about a lifter going out (knocking sound) and then a couple hundred miles later the engine quit on him.

@@Waves4now Runs fine now. I replaced all timing belt components, cam chains and cam chain guides (which no longer had a friction surface, but had been making direct metal-to-metal contact with the cam chains). Had to do a couple of oil flushes, too, in order to get rid of the resulting glitter.

I have been riding a 2007 2.0L naturally aspirated specification for 2 years in Korea. 5-speed manual, custom made from manifold to end muffler, coilover spring, 2-piston oem brake, large-diameter stabilizer, Rays TE37 17-inch wheels and 225/45/17 high-grip performance tires are used. Other than that, everything is part of the manufacturer. It's a well-made car, and it's a good car for beginners in motorsports. However, at this point in Korea, there are many more options (Hyundai N model, etc.), so it is a car that can only feel the pure sensibility of a mechanical throttle body. If you live abroad, to be honest, I don't think there's any reason to choose. I'm nevertheless a good car to recall my childhood memories, so I'm going to go ahead with tuning to mark 190 horsepower in mechanical parts excluding turbocharger in the future. It is doable with the gearbox separated and engine supported, took me few hours, clutch centralising tool essentiall. Once you've disconnected the driveshafts separated the lower arms from the struts to do this plus taking off few ancillaries you can unbolt the bell housing and pull it away from the engine, there then is enough clearance to get the clutch out. I should of done a video when I did it :) As for the arteon, a nice car, but I still have a preference for my cc. Have been driving my mums coupe this week to commute to work, feels strange as it used to be my car. Have to say after doing a valet on it for her its probably one of the best 09 plates left on the road, apart from flakey spoiler and wing mirrors that need repaint, common problem on these. The body and interior are as good as it was 9 years ago when I bought it at 23k from a main dealer!

I quite fancy one of these now I'm middle aged and insurance is cheaper. I like how the engine choices on these coupés are a little similar to the 1980s Ford Capri, with the cheaper to run1.6, quicker 2.0 or even lairier V6!

265.000 km with my 2.0 liters 143hp Coupe. I service her every 15.000km and i follow the builder recommandations for time belt, brakes, fluids, filters,... I never had any issue with her, not even an oil leak on the engine . This car i bought brand new in 2009 is definitely THE MOST RELIABLE CAR i ever owned.

1.6 FL2 from 2008 there from Belgium awesome but you need to find someone who can work on these because ive got alot of brake problem ive replace every caliper and handbrake cable but now its ok 175 000 km stock suspension bushes every thing... my Power steering direction broke bc someone goes hard on it.... my clutch is original too and litle bit of rust... but i will do it this car is awesome now my fuel economy is like 750 - 800 km for fuel tank ive this car since 6 years i will never sell it i want it since need for speed underground 2 when i was young.

Tbh they’re fine if you underseal them early and are prepared to adjust/ fix the brakes (particularly the hand brake) every MOT. I don’t know about other countries, but in the UK they are mostly scrap by 100,000 miles because they rust and corrode very quickly! Most cars above 50/60k have corrosion noted on mot and almost always have brake binding or efficiency advisories on mot too. Other than that I loved my modified 2.0

97k now brought at 75kor something, had service history. Only wear amd tear bits really ibe ever had to repair. drop links, battery, starter motor, clutch fluid flush, caliper rebuild and gonna do some bushes in a couple weeks

Lovely and informative (I've watched your full review too) I was looking at a stunning 2007 coupe (one lady owner from new ... big LOL ... I KNOW this means no maintenance done) and also the mileage is 130!! So I think I need to avoid it......but will keep looking...

I really wanna get a coupe a 2004 year cus I love that old look but I don't know if I should. 2.0 petrol engine, gonna try it tomoz see how it feels from the buyer, but I really need some pin point reasons to buy it other than the fact that it's my childhood love car... if anyone comments, please, I'd be happy to read and I will take all pros and cons into consideration.

My Dad had one of these (52 reg) , he got stranded somewhere once when the clutch failed 😱. Car was less than 3 years old. Other than that, great car, though felt a bit sluggish. Think it was a 2.7l v6 that he had.

Ooh, I wonder if that's one of those problems that was more common when they were new - I suppose on a 52 it was one of the very first ones. My guess is that the expectation for performance with the V6 is higher, and it's actually not that much quicker than the 2.0 - I think it's quite heavy and makes the car more of a GT than a nippy-sporty-handling thing. Something I've noticed with the 2.0 at least, is the throttle is incredibly sensitive, so it makes the car feel really sporty (and also makes it look like you can't drive for sh*t half the time with all the random revs etc 😂).

The 2.7 liter version is quite zippy, actually, though the torque converter 4 speed automatic version was sluggish. The 6 speed manual version, once the clutch cylinder restrictor is removed and the car is driven "correctly" (with quite high revs when taking off), does not feel slow. Having a clogged intake or exhaust will kill the performance, though. The stock resonator (right after the cat) is prone to clogging up due to the aggressive baffling in it, especially if the car is consistently driven at too low RPM.

have one, well my mom have it not mine, the engine and transmission is a tank but the body, interior and suspension just speaks to me "hey this car is 10 y/o, you better overhaul me"

I have a hyundai coupe the 2000 model that looks like the celica one. Its a grat car to learn hoe to rebuild an engin, its simpel but not the simpelist its fun. I recomend it for new car freaks 👍😜

My maintenance goes as far as filling up the oil cos it leaks it all out. Dont need to do an oil change that way!

It is one of my all time favourite looking cars. I eventually took the plunge and it drove well but two main issues I had:. the handbrake was not connected to anything and the red paint was peeling off the back half of the car!! Sold this one but desperately want another. However living in Cornwall, any good one is miles away so may have to trust a seller again and have it delivered down!!

Cornwall is so far from everywhere! Any time I've been I always forget how much longer it takes to get there haha. But on the plus side, it's rather nice. The car I was testing suffers from a poor handbrake, and I've heard it's a common problem. Good luck in your search for your next Coupe 👍

I've got an '09 SIII 2.0, the handbrake is a def weak point, tiny rear disc tiny pad and piston all make for a weak handbrake, front seats aren't very comfortable not just thin cheap foam but not enough rake on the seat squab. Check the coolant hose band clamps for rust one of mine was leaking due to this. Very 1st problem was the sound of water swishing around from the rear drivers side bottom sill, there are 3 plastic grommets about 20mm in dia under the sill on each side (6 in total) took off the rearmost one (drivers side) and about a litre of water gushed out. Drill an 8-10mm hole in that grommet and replace, problem solved. Clean and lubricate the bonnet lock mechanism. Overall a reliable car but engine is generations old and should have had a better powerplant. It does look good though :)

@@JJonCars It def is, a lil bit of maybe Aston Martin in the design I think they also said when it was launched, there are a lot of upgrades you can do to the engine, most quite cheap and they will be on both forums, Hyundai Coupe Club & Hyundaicoupeowners club, I do really like it and like you I'm now at an age I like something different, something more individual and its kinda like a project now to me, to improve it all round.

Hello! I enjoyed your video I never heard of these cars before and by accident i found out just one in Lithuania (where i live now ) What do you think of a 2003 v6 manual but with 194,000km on it ? Worth the risk? How many kms can you depend on these cars? Thank you!

Hi Brian, thank you. That's a lot of KMs. Do you know, has the car been looked after? Does it have service history? If it has then I think it could keep running for a lot longer but it depends on how it has been cared for in the past. If it looks in bad condition or neglected then I would say run away!

@@JJonCars hi again! Thank your for replying back ! I checked on carvertical today and the kms seems real, the services has been up to date. Last MOT was done this year on february with no issues. It looks like they took care of the car, they changed the door that was rusted and changed them to a 2007 model. Will have a look in person this week and see how it goes. It has 6 speed manual, black leather seats. Is that a GT?

I heard it costs a lot 😅! One last question do you know if in these models they have isofix? (Kid adjusment chair)

I've taken great care of mine and babied it yet it's been quite unreliable. Radiator exploded, headgasker went after, had to fix the ABS three times and it's went again.

They do seem to suffer with brake issues - the handbrake is notorious too. Wonder if that means in the future the rear discs will be hard to come by...

Yeah! If you can get insured on it etc then I'd say so. It's not as easy to drive as your average hatchback/saloon, but it's a reliable and great looking car. For simple maintenance they are ok, but some more complex jobs (that I wouldn't do myself anyway, e.g. clutch) are a bit more tricky.

I think you should be fine on E10. At least the UK government seems to think so, and I know that 99% of Coupe owners in the UK will be running on E10 now. But E15, not sure, we don't have that here (do we?)
