I realized I made a small mistake in this video. When I mistakenly said "I spent one hour a week on entertainment" I meant to say that I spent one day every week on entertainment. I used to do competitive freestyle skiing back in middle school and every Sunday (as well as the bulk of Saturday afternoon and evening) throughout the IB program, I went skiing with my friends and family. The point is that I want to dispel the myth that you need to sell your soul to get a 45 in the IB. Stay Productive, J

@sulkel Жыл бұрын
@@ponferadatry to view the word problem as regular math. For example, if I say the number two plus the variable x equals to the number four, you will immediately realize x equals to two. What your brain actually did was convert what I said into '2+x=4' which means x=2 if you move the two to the other side. Try doing this with more complex problems over and over (it's an unsexy answer but deliberate practice will get you far) and you'll be fine in no time

Hello! Just a quick question: How can you guarantee good marks on a subjective exam? English for example is entirely subjective, as is history, and almost all IA's too. There is a criteria to follow of course but everyone marks it differently. I got 30/40 on a trial oral I did last week and that mark was subjective by the teacher. Other people I practised my oral with marked it significantly higher.
@JoaquinRevello Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Remember that the IB is designed to be as least subjective as possible (similar to how the SAT reading is actually very objective) or else it would lose it's value as a standardized test. With this mind, squeeze as much actionable info from the rubric (based on your response) and then ask your English teacher objectively why there was a discrepency in the two scores. Also remember that the final AI and Exams will be standardized as teachers from around the globe will be marking the exams. Hope that helps!

Hello Joaquin! My school schedules one SL IB exam for our Grade 11 year, and due to our class having less time than grade 12 classes to process content, our class was underprepared and I feel as though I didn't perform up to my expectations. However, I feel as though I learned a lot about myself and how I reacted to the exam environment, and am trying to redirect my own negative thoughts towards positive reflection. Do you have any advice for mentally resetting myself to ideally nail 7s for my 5 exams in Grade 12 next year?
@JoaquinRevello Жыл бұрын
Hey Ben, thank you for your comment. What you are talking about is a change in identity. You are slowly changing your identity away from an underprepared, lower achieving student and into a high achieving student. In order to create any type of identity change you need to create sufficient action to reinforce your identity. So I suggest the following: 1) Write out what a high achieving student would do (e.g. study consistently, score well on practice tests, etc.) and slowly begin doing those things. 2) Pick someone you admire who embodies some of those high achiever tendancies (e.g. Elon Musk for me) and ask yourself what they would do in these study/productivity situations. How would this think? By alligning yourself with that ideal you are slowly attaching your identity to the type of person you want to become

Hi Joaquin, I will start IB in 2 months and I want to use my vacations to become a more disciplined person. But I really don’t know what to do besides working on my procrastination habits. Do you have more advices or suggestions to become that good IB student in these 2 months?
@JoaquinRevello Жыл бұрын
Great question. The short answer: I will be releasing a video on this exact topic shortly. Long answer, in order for you to become "a more disciplined person," you need to take action that props up that identity. I suggest picking a simple habit (e.g. do 5 minutes of math) and staying disciplined with that one habit for the entire summer. Doing that will give you concrete evidence that will support the identity (that you are a disciplined person) that you want to hold. To become the IB student, I would begin doing all the tasks that you'll have to eventually do during your IB year (e.g. start working on your extra co-curriculars for university apps) so that you don't bogged down with work when you should be studying for the IB. Hope that helps
