I have a 2016 XE 2.0d with 120,000kms on the clock, owned it from new. It had engine mount issues (vibration at idle) at the beginning, was repaired under warranty within the first 2 years. Yes, the timing chain needs to be replaced at about 95,000km - indications are check engine light and engine sounding like a tractor. Other than that - jet cooler solenoid (false oil critically low warnings), thermostat (coolant temp never goes above a quarter) and front suspension top mounts (handling issues with visible disintegration, seen from the bonnet). Other than those, it has been reliable. This is from an Alfa owner before the Jag :)

I like my XE. I've had it for just over 6 months and have put about 7,000 miles on it without any issues. It had 38,000 miles on it when I bought it and cost around £14,000 from a Jaguar dealer. Mine is 2016 base-spec manual diesel and I see a little over a measured 60MPG on a motorway journey at a steady 70MPH. The performance is adequate but not electrifying - maybe a remap would help but I personally won't bother. It has very nice handling and feels very planted on the road with light controls but plenty of feel. I prefer manuals but the very long-legged ratios mean you do want to be in the correct gear at all times. The clutch biting point on mine is fairly high, hope that's not a sign of wear. Hopefully the 100,000 mile one you tried shows that a cam-chain failure is not inevitable but I believe repairs are affordable at a push from a specialist, as long as it doesn't actually snap and cause valve damage. It's very comfortable on a long trip; quiet and relaxed running very low revs at cruising speeds in sixth gear by which I mean a real 80MPH on French autoroutes (130KPH). It's comfortable for 4 people over long distances but the 5th seat is not usable due to the transmission tunnel. I don't have the Meridian system and the sound is nothing to write home about but not terrible. The boot is not huge especially with the spare wheel option that mine has. I have folding rear seats and they are a useful option. It's EU6 and this particular year/spec qualifies for free road tax. For now at least. I like the styling, I slightly miss the flexibility of an estate like my previous Jag - an X-Type that I had a few years ago. It's not a small car and I wouldn't want anything bigger. Overall very happy with the XE so far and planning to keep it for a few years if it behaves.

I have the more basic Prestige which doesn't have flared sills or add on spoiler. I can see why people like the R Sport but personally I like the clean lines of the basic design. If you're getting an XE, check it's had, or budget in, a timing chain and water pump replacement. That said, it's the best car I've ever driven, it is absolutely superb on ride, handling and steering feel. I love it! Every journey feels like a pleasure in it.

I did call Jaguar to enquiry about getting the chain done but thay said you dont get it done for no reason, you will know when it starts to go, to be honest your always going to hear bad things about cars, they said my Eco sport belt had a chance of snapping around 20k, well over that now, your always going to hear bad stories but this is a great car and only time will tell.

I have the 2018 v6 supercharged awd 35T r sport, and I simply love it. If you have the budget, this engine, with the air intake pipe and filter, lower and upper pulley upgrade, and a tune, is a true driving experience for relatively lower end money that will provide the level of performance, handling, and simply terrific driving fun, that will challenge so many 100K priced vehicles I can think of. I also added sport cat down pipes from Fabspeed, and my XE sounds like a v8F type, with an exhaust note and supercharger whine through every gear that is just awesome.

The Carfax is completely clean no accidents it was on a lease and came back with 12,000 miles on it and somebody else leased it and also put a little bit more than 12,000 miles on it and it’s well taken care of and it’s all wheel drive. There are also more of them in America so it might even be worth you having one shipped over there if you’re paying 10,000 pounds for a car that has 100,000 miles on it and it’s not even all-wheel-drive

I love my 2015 petrol XE. I didn’t purchase the new engine version for one reason only. The drive chain location. If it goes it’s engine out. Apart from that it’s a great car. Plenty of boot space. Rear leg room is fine. Drivers head room is good. Other reviews questioning this. Simply hadn’t lowered the seat position. It’s an easy car to drive.

How long have you had it ? How are the reliability and fuel economy? I am looking at the XE, however I am not sure if I'd get the diesel or EcoBoost one. I am leaning a bit toward EcoBoost mainly because most of my drives are like 5-6 kilometers and diesels do not take short journeys very well, plus all of the diesel timing chain horror stories. The only reason I still am considering the diesel is that I do a couple of 4000-5000 kilometer journeys per year and I'd like the fuel economy of the diesel. Basically 10 months of the year I do mainly short journeys and the other 2 moths I do the big journeys.

I looked at the V6 S. 340 bhp( 380 after 2018) but reliability always seemed iffy. One thing I’ll never get is why they didn’t make a V8 XE R. The V8 would fit as the V6 was just a V8 engine with the back cylinder on each bank sealed off, the bores were reduced with liners and new V6 heads went on. The crank is still the same length as a V8. Talk about cost cutting. Obviously they made that overpriced Project 8 but I think a mainstream V8 would have been fun.
