Is the Jaguar XF a good car or not?

I want one soooo much. Still have a 2.2D X-Type, for about 10 years now, and it is an all-time favourite - much under-rated by Bavarian fan-boy motoring journalists.

@@ToomaMac I've had my XF for 2 months now and I absolutely love it. I've owned Mercedes C300 Audi A5 Infiniti Q35 this Jag annihilates them. They are temperamental though so if you do decide I would get an extended warranty

The 2.2 is the best diesel saloon you can buy cheap from reliability and drive perspective. I am comparing with the f10, w212, audi etc. This engine is a PSA unit with belt and is tough as nails.

Disconnect the engine stop start, It's the work of the devil. This model of XF is the best sedan they ever made, especially with the larger engines.

Seems to be a lot of good positive reviews on the XF diesel 2 litre. But the 3 litre diesel seems a better choice with little loss in economy and a lot of positives.. especially the XF portfolio S model. Good economy luxury in trim and gadgets.. power exceptional and low road tax for a luxury saloon. Cost to purchase used models much the same...why choose the 2.2?

2.0 ingenium LOL. Worst engine to date, timing issues galore. 2.2 bomb proof if maintained.

@@kash6576 that's hard to believe..most have positive reviews of the 3.0 litre diesel engine. Every car needs to be maintained to run reliably I would say

@@voicevoice2053 The 2.7 and 3.0 Lion engine has a number of inherent faults, some of which can occur regardless of maintenance etc.

@@mabaker7155 this is not what most engineers and testers state. Of course a large modern engine is going to be complex and that one in particular had an enormous amount of research in it's development. It's praised for being a good engine. I think you can find fault in any type of engine. On top of that many with individual past bad experiences tend to jump on the bandwagon and generalize a lot thinking all are the same. Regular maintenance this engine will easily do 250,000 miles without major faults. You will get the same negativity about Mercedes and BMW diesels across the internet.

@@voicevoice2053 Do please name these engineers. I repeat, this engine has a number of inherent faults, some of which are terminal should they occur, and are not the result of poor maintenance. The four main bearing crankshaft being the weakest component.

This probably wouldn’t be a good idea in that case if you enter the ULEZ zone regularly, or live within it. I live 200 miles away from London so it’s not something that I personally would need to consider at the moment however there are so many more factors to consider if living within or near the ULEZ zone.

Well, they are two different types of cars when you come to drive them. The XF provides a firmer ride and the seats are firmer to sit on. In my view, it’s very hard to beat the refinement of the x308. But I’m somewhat biased.

Terrible reliability 2011 to 2014. Washer bottle if splits or leaks , will track through wing into your bcm by your right foot behind panel. 2k fix at jag dealer.BCM Can be got used for 200 but need reprogram. I had to cut wires on a green junction box by the bcm and join in terminal blocks. Tge damp from washer bottle had destroyed the connections. And the bcm had to use contact cleaner on the pins just in time before failure. These cars you cant trust to go to the shops or a long run. Its a shame. You can have a great car but the body control modules due to bad design / car assembly will leave you scrapping a 10k car. If you are a mechanic and have plug in diagnostic then buy it cheap. Otherwise make sure you have breakdown cover. Worse even than vauxhall
