My Dad has the 2015 XF 3.0 litre Diesel with about 150k on the clock. It's a fabulous car! Barely any issues to speak of, extremely comfortable and that engine is just brilliant. Heaps of power for a fang out in the country and gets 1000km to a tank. I've told him It's mine when he upgrades next. 🤞

I refuse to believe that people who can make such a good car, can't make it last. I suspect the lack of reliability is by design and it's the same with all those fancy Euro cars. I mean, plastic water pump, etc...

Had an XF 2013 3.0 D V6 Portfolio for two years and never had a single issue with it. Bought with 92k miles (148K km) with good history and it never missed a beat with me doing 500 miles a week. Great car with a lot of character and really moves when you want it to.

I have been driving an Jaguar XF 3.0D 75th anniversary everyday for the last 2 years and so far it's been decent in reliability. The biggest issue with this model in my opinion is the electronics. On my car the infotainment reboots randomly, the led on my rpm needle is flashing and weaker in brightness and the overhead light sometimes turn on and off by itself. Atleast Jaguar made the modules plug and play so if you get issues with them on your car you can just buy a used part and replace them quite easily and quickly. The bluetooth module is known for causing issues with the infotainment because of water damage/corrosion. I think a bypass loop is the best way to deal with it because the module is so old and you don't lose much functionality. I have also seen that some companies have started selling a complete replacement for the entire infotainment system for the Jaguar XF. It gives the car modern connectivity options along with a much bigger touchscreen and it controls everything the original one does, adds support for other higher quality backup cameras and will work with the built in buttons is the steering wheel. Since these infotainment systems basically are android devices that are modified to interact perfectly with the Jaguar XF they could be had for a very reasonable price. My car starts and drives perfectly fine everyday even in the winter when it was -30 degrees outside for many weeks. I had mine at the EU control a few days ago and the only repairs required was a single wheel bearing and 1 of the bulbs by the license plate was not lighting up. Which is not bad at all.

I've owned a 2010 3.0D XF S 275 Premium Luxury for three years now, bought with just one previous owner and 42k miles on the clock. I paid such a low price for it I was able to afford to get the cambelt and pumps changed and the gearbox serviced as soon as I bought it. Love the shape and interior styling, classic and modern simultaneously. Lots of features that were ahead of its time when launched. Also, 'look after your car, she'll look after you' is my mantra for faultless performance and motoring. This cat loves long journeys and positively purrs all the way. And, no, parts aren't necessarily expensive to come by if you do need them - certainly not in the UK. But, my mantra is to keep on top of maintenance (as with any vehicle), deal with any niggles before they become actual issues; rigorously change the oil and filter every 6k miles, occasionally use Wynn's diesel power 7 on a long run to give the engine and other components a spring clean, and only use Shell V-Power diesel fuel. Join the Jag forums so you can learn from others' experiences of the vehicle [and also to learn to check for potential common faults, to ensure you're not going to experience them]. Compared to my previous ultra modern vehicle, I'm now 50% more fuel efficient, carbon offset the fuel I do use and intend to run this Jag until I'm forced by law to no longer have an ICE vehicle - though, hopefully before then, we'll be able to fill with diesel replacement fuel directly.

Hi Jon, have also just bought a 2010 3.0D Premium Luxury. Only 46k on the clock (Isle of man owner). it goes in for full service and timing belt change Friday. Just wondered about your mention of the gearbox being serviced, is this recommended? Also do you have plans to change the infotainment system or is it already upgraded? Thinking of getting this done. So far loving this car.

I have a 2008 XF 3.0 NA with 61k km on it. Never had an issue with it but then again, I regularly get it serviced. The one issue I do have is with the chrome window trim. It has gone milky and I remedied this by getting it wrapped. Now it just looks incredible. Still very sharp and sexy for a 15 year old car. I highly recommend this car!

*Correction RE V6 petrol normally-aspirated:* The AJ-V6 AJ30 n-a engine is based on the Ford Duratec V6 that was originally a Porsche design. It is a traditional 60 degree V6 design, not a 90 degree V6 derived from a V8. Rather, it is the supercharged V6, the AJ-V8 AJ126 90 degree V6, which uses the AJ133 V8 engine block with the rear two cylinder bores blanked, and reduced bore sizes.

As always great video guys. I will say this again & again, reliability is mostly down to how the owners treat their vehicles. If they service them & cherish them & spend money as it needs it without compromising they will last a long time. As soon as you start to skip services or save a few dollars on running costs then it will go down hill very fast. As a reputable mechanic myself I find it very frustrating when customers try & put off maintenance to save $$. You have to spend money to keep your vehicle in good condition otherwise it will cost you a lot more later when something does go badly wrong.

I'm in total agreement here. People buy used euro for the 'look at me' factor and either can't afford or don't understand maintenance. Two mechanics I knew in my NZ home town liked euro cars and one was adamant that BMW electronics were the best to deal with and the other that you have to know how to work on them and where/whom to get parts. Neither were dealers but specialist mechanics. A mate who is a Holden mechanic swears people off Captiva and Cruise but also consistently comes across other mechanics work or DIY that he has to fix because he knows all the tips.

I had a RR vogue SE, I struggled to find a replacement, then after 6 months I found the XF Sportbrake with the Portfolio spec, it was 4 years old and after 5 minutes of driving it I loved it. I have had it 4 years the 2.2 is pretty bullet proof, as for leaks, none seen, ok the door actuator went. I have one of the lowest powered smaller engines, I find it ideal. This is my first Jag, I can’t imagine going to another Marque, I love it. A lot say on paper the BMW 5 series is a better car, but they still prefer the Jag.
@DjNikGnashers
@DjNikGnashers 5 ай бұрын
And MANY MORE actually buy the BMW 5 series because it IS a MUCH better car in every way, and love it. Facts from reliability surveys show Jaguar and Range Rover are by FAR the most unreliable vehicles on the road. Jaguars lag behind BMW and the other competitors in every area, from handling, performance, fuel efficiency quality, etc. People who buy Jaguars are doing it with the hearts, because they think they are buying into that 'British' image and history (even though modern Jaguars are made by Tata an Indian company), people who buy BMW are doing it with their heads, because it is by far the much better car in every way.

The bottom end failure claims are not true for the 3.0 V6. The 2.7 V6 is the bearing spinner. Most of the electronic failures are due to the looms, a boot loom is £150 and takes 20 mins to swap, the overhead interior lights just need a clean and regrease on the contacts to fix, takes 30mins and cost less than a fiver! I own a 2010 3.0 TDV6 and it’s glorious, it’s age is hidden by the Black exterior and Black interior. Servicing is key to reliability. I change my oil every year and I do less than 6,000 miles a year. The belts are an expensive job but a good local tech did mine for £700 and I’ll probably never have to do them again, it gets 35-55mpg and goes like a scalded cat. Most people won’t buy em and that’s fine with me cos with a little knowledge and a little work these are fantastic cars. Keep the prices low by slagging them off so is that know how to look after a car can enjoy our XFs a little cheaper to buy 😉

I bought a 2016 Jaguar XF Prestige in Hawaii in July of 2019. I loved it at the beginning. The first problem I had was the rims were 19" and scared up so I did lots of research and found the rim and tires I wanted. There were 18" and the tires I wanted came in the correct size. I bought the rims and made my appointment at Jaguar of Honolulu. When I took the car in they told me that they can not swap out the rims because I did not buy them from their dealership (The ONLY Jaguar dealership in Hawaii). I explained that I spent $2,000 US dollars on the rims and basically begged them, but they were firm and did not do the work. I took my Jag to GoodYear in Pearl City and begged them to switch the TPS sensors from the old rims to the new rims and do a wheel alignment. They agreed to switch the TPS sensors but told me they can not do work on Jaguars (At all not even oil changes). In fact, I quickly learned that no shops of any kind will do any work on a Jaguar (Fast Lube, Jiffy Lube, No one will do oil changes). Jaguar of Honolulu charges about $900.00 to service the car and do an oil change (information I found out after I was already STUCK with the car). I scheduled another appt with Jaguar to do the wheel alignment and fix the doors which were suddenly not locking anymore. At the appt I was told that the reason my doors stopped locking was the door actuators went bad. They replaced them on (2) doors and I paid the $2,000 bill making my Jaguar start to leave a dent in my wallet. This brings my investment to over $4,000 dollars plus the (4) new tires and I just bought the car! I should also say that I bought the car with 25,000 miles just for complete understanding. Door locks should not be breaking at 25k miles. That is insane!!!! Ok, so after paying the bill I walk out to my car and there is a huge 5 inch long area of scratches and missing paint at the bottom of one of the doors they fixed. I got so mad it was difficult to contain my rage after the bill I just paid. They did NOT discount the work after admitting they damaged my car. They could not even fix it that day because they had to schedule with an outside vendor for paint repairs. So I had to bring it back in a few weeks. In the meantime every time it rained my doors they started filling up with water or when I washed the car too.!!! At the next appt they (sort of fixed the paint damage). I could tell where they damaged it and they cleaned out the doors so they stopped filling up with water. This bill was no charge (Thank God!!). That was all in the 1st year of ownership. Now fast forward to now in Nov 2023. My Jag started leaking coolant. I made an appointment to Jaguar of Honolulu and the quote for the repair was $7,000 US dollars. I am not even finished making payments on the car and I have only driven the car 28,000 miles since I bought it!!! The Odometer is at 53,000 miles!!!! Explain to me how it has a 7,000 dollar coolant at 53K miles??? I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma (I am the only owner) with 160,000 miles and only paid for breaks, oil changes, and a couple of battery replacements. How on Earth is Jaguar built so BAD????? I called Subaru and told them my 2016 Jag was in perfect condition and asked them how much they would give me to trade it in and you know what they said? Sorry, we won't take Jaguar for trade-ins. You have to sell it on your own. Are you freaking kidding me here!!!!!! I hate Jaguar and I will never ever have anything good to say about them ever again. I have to find a way to get out of this nightmare car!!!!! Any thoughts???

I disagree with that the stuff about reliability being garbage though. I know someone who has had many problems with his XFR Jag and quite expensive and long turn around fixes aswell. Some models are worse than others the XFR being one of the worst, but statistically speaking an XF late 2000's jag vs a Lexus GS of similar vintage are in 2 different ball parks. One has engine/transmission combinations of some of the most reliable ever produced (Lexus) and the other simply doesn't and doesn't normally bode well in reliability surveys. I'm happy for you that you've had a great experience, but keep it another 10 years and get back to me.
@severnsea
@severnsea 8 ай бұрын
@@azcarter4389 Odd that, on the owners forums the XFR is the most recommended. It's the diesels that seem to be problematic because of the DPF filters, but most cars have DPF issues because they're not fit for purpose - the stop the engine from breathing which is the opposite of what it needs. I can't disagree with the Lexus having a good reputation but they just so boring to drive, they don't have the character that the Jag has. Maybe it's because they're not as popular in the UK, but you don't see many older Lexus around. There are probably more pre-2000 Jags than anything as they are popular with enthusiasts, but that's because they are a British car. But most of the unreliability reports come from the older models. People read about them being unreliable and assume that applies to the current ones too. In 2010 the XF actually came top in the JD Power survey so they can't be that bad!

Of course, my brother bought a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee and at 4400 km the engine has crapped out and has been sitting for a month at a dealer awaiting availability of a new engine. So Jag isn't alone with serious quality issues. At least the Jag would happily wag it's tail with a liberal application of throttle... if I had to choose between crappy cars, the Jag still wins.

@@mickadatwist1620 It doesn't say anything, there are countless XFs around that have covered 5 times that distance. Mine has covered 64000 miles and drives like new. It depends how it was looked after for one thing. I've heard of everything from Ford, BMW, Mercedes and countless others that have had new engines after just a few thousand miles. One of the Kia models is reported as having engine seizures after 10,000 miles and one owner reported having to get a new engine installed for the third time at 16,000 miles. Part of the problem these days is they are so finely tuned to meet emissions standards, if they are not looked after they soon start to deteriorate but the vast majority of drivers don't do anything until it's too late, and those that do use the cheapest oil they can use and so on. Howe many women do you know who check their oil regularly, or at all?

I bought a 2013 XFS D sportbrake in portfolio trim in the uk. This has way more character than a BMW, Merc or Audi hence why I chose it. I really wanted the sunroof but opted out in the end for the exact reasons in this video. Also with the gear selector if it fails to rise usually means moisture has got in there either someone spilt a drink at some point someone with wet hands or got in the car wet and got water over the controls. There’s a circuit board right under there for the button panel near the gear selector, really stupid place! Also the water wicking issue with the washer bottle is more common in the facelifted versions and tends to come from the headlamp washer pump.

'Character' is not a measureable factor, so to say one car brand 'has more character' than another is absolute bullsheet. You think you are being smug by buying into the British image, yet Jaguar is owned by Tata an Indian company. Many MANY more people buy cars based on facts, reliability surveys, and handling, performance, efficiency, and quality advantages, and that is why many MANY more people buy BMW's. Your unreliable, ugly, boat-handling, oil-burning, heap of blandness, doesn't even come close to the character of my BMW M2, and it most certainly doesn't come close in handling, reliability, performance, and quality.

@@DjNikGnashers What a strange comment, from a seemingly strange individual. lol. 1. It never had a reliability problem (neither did the AMG). 2. It was an S model, and it handled very well, while being dramatically more comfortable over the AMG. 3. The build quality and materials felt and looked better, they just did! 4. It was a UK made model. 5. How can a Jaguar XF not be considered luxury? It felt more "Luxury" compared to the C-Class, and it wasn't really close. Yeah sure, the AMG V8 sounded far better, and handled well, but nothing that could really be utilised on public roads, making the Jaguar the nicer daily driving experience. Perhaps instead of basing opinions mainly on the badge, you can save yourself from talking rubbish? Go away and enjoy the "reliability" and "luxury" of your entry model BMW.

@@killertaxi100 Your opinion of a strange comment is valid, as your opinion, but your judgement of my character as 'strange individual' is offensive and based on zero knowledge of me personally, so I think you're best keeping that to yourself. Everyone can type 'my car was 100% reliable' without any factual back up evidence, it means nothing. The facts are, in every major trusted vehicle reliability survey, Jaguar and RangeRover always have several entries in the most unreliable top 10, every year, for decades. This isn't opinion, it is fact. Just because you were lucky does not mean the vehicle is reliable, it just means yours was and you were lucky. An S model Jaguar handles ok, and it might have been more confortable and an AMG S, but an AMG S is a sporty variation of the model and is not designed to be comfortable, it is designed to be great handling. All of the road tests of the time, put the AMG S handling way above any Jaguar competitor. Am I to trust dozens of motoring journalists, or one random fanboy on the internet ? Feeling 'luxury' is your perception, maybe you love fake wooden old man interiors, and see that as 'luxury', I wasn't just talking about opinions and preferences, I was talking the whole vehicle and it's parts too. Your opinion the AMG couldn't be utilised on public roads therefore the Jaguar is a better daily driver is crap. You are saying, just because you can't drive a powerful RWD sports variation to it's true potential on the road, then it must mean a lesser handling car is better, you're ridiculous and silly. I'm talking from both facts from years of surveys, and also from personal experience of working in the motor trade for years, and I'd say that counts a LOT more as a valid opinion than your fanboy bullsheet. As for my 'entry level' BMW, I think my OG M2 is worth more, and is MUCH more desirable than your car, and held in much higher esteem for handling and drivability, and also FUN.

@@DjNikGnashers Oh dear, hahaha. Yes, you are indeed very very very strange. I think you need to go back and read my original comment again, and understand it's context. I've never owned a Mercedes or a Jaguar, these were my fathers vehicles, which are no longer in the family (he also once owned a E36 M3 3.2L, very unreliable btw). I was only commenting based on the duration of his ownership, nothing more. I never claimed Jaguar's were reliable vehicles, and wouldn't do so. I'm not a fanboy of any car brand. The ride in the C63 AMG S is the worst ride I've ever experienced, and that was in comfort mode. I don't think it was expectable, even for an AMG. Says a lot that the later models were released with revised suspension that was much more compliant. The XF had real wood. The leather in the Jaguar was higher quality, and there was more of it. The plastics looked and felt nicer, everywhere. The controls and buttons were nicer to use, and felt higher quality. Particular the sound system in the Jaguar was miles better than the AMG. The cabin was more quiet as well. The Jaguar interior was easily the nicer place to spend time, more luxurious, but yes the AMG was more fun! I don't believe how well a car handles and how fast is goes, makes for a better vehicle overall. Particularly if used for the daily commute. I'd prefer to keep my drivers licence personally. Driving like the public road is a racetrack, is pretty anti-social. The C63 AMG S could be doing 100km/h in 4 seconds, not a useful feature in traffic. I don't think you need a mountain of power to have fun, having personal previously owned a Polo GTI and i20N, where your able to use all of the power more of the time. I also worked in the Automotive industry for 5 years, with a multi-franchise dealership in the fleet department. I sampled MANY different brands of vehicles, and if you want to talk about powerful RWD vehicles, we sold Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV). Lastly, weird comment to make about "my car", when you don't even know what it is. BMW 1/2 series, is entry level BMW. At the time of purchasing my current vehicle, I could have easily purchased a nice OG M2 for less money if desired, and I also did seriously consider purchasing a new 128ti. By the way, I'm well aware of how special that model of M2 is, but it's not something that personally interests me. Speaking of which, I currently own a Cupra Formentor VZx (and looking into adding a Honda S660 in 2024), which doesn't really mold well for most of your arguments I think. Go on, tell me how crap my car is if you like! This is entertaining! 😄

Your mechanic was correct - the Ford engineed variety are often looked at here, as Jaguar badged Mondeos. I should think that from what I experienced of the Australian climate; I don’t think European cars reall take this into account. And yes, the electricalsc issue is just as much a problem with any modern cars. As I said, I went instead for the XJ Portfolio, but as you recommended, buying a heavily depreciated luxury vehicle requires a reserve of funds for any maintenance issues that will come up. Over here, they are a a lot less expensive than in Australia - but & and it’s a big one; you would need to have pretty deep pockets if you were going to buy the modes with supercharged V8 engines. Mine does a reasonable 36 - 50mpg on the road, depending on how I drive it, having twin turbo 3 litre v6 gives me just under 300bhp. Because since the XJ 350 models were introduced, the all aluminium body means that it’s not as heavy as it looks & it will hit 60mph in a shade under 6 seconds, which isn’t bad for a four door luxury car - on the roof lining is suede leather - but I don’t like those pop-up selectors! Any you’re right if in Australia, buy a Lexus.

First I was looking for a Range Rover with the Jag V8 Yes I know what your going to say, I've own a Discovery and I know how expensive it to fix but that's because it's Australia ! Where all car mechanics assume that you are rich because you own a Land Rover car,so they charge you immensely! But in the UK there are parts galore and basically every UK mechanic can fix them and not charge you big bucks ! Then while looking for cars over there I discovered the Jag XF OMG ! What a beautiful car inside and out and you can pick many up for $5000-9000 AUD unlike here where they sell between $15,000-20,000 ! These cars can easily tow a english caravan and I will buying one of these as well,you can pick up a decent 4-5 berth for only $3000 AUD So I will be spending just under $10,000 AUD for a Jag and caravan try and do that here in the Land of the Buck Australia !

No, it shouldn't have. Being a sedan/saloon is perfect.

Owned one for a year and the engine blew. Completely my fault the dealer said get an oil change every 5k miles and I asked a shop to do it after 10k and they didn’t do it blew a few weeks later. Overall though if you take care of it this car really will treat you well. Only cheap mechanical issues that in most cases you can do yourself but i only had a couple.

Hold on a second! So the rain wipers are moving and are mounted on the same position as on right hand driving? This means that when it's raining heavily, the first move of the wipers will simply flood the driver's side of the windshield with water, thus rendering the driver virtually blind?????????

I've just got the 2014 xf with only 53,000 miles on it. My toch screen is completely different than that mines black not blue and lay out different with audio at the top then sat nav then dual climate all showing current info for that particular section.

It's funny how some videos can really hook you - when I first saw Top Gear's XFR review, I was smitten. Though it was out of my price range to buy new, I had to test drive one and was hooked by that engine. Sadly the rest of the driving experience didn't quite do it for me, though I do wish I had the chance to try the facelifted version, or even better, the XFR-S.

The early 3 litre petrol was a Jaguar tweaked version of the Ford Duratec engine and very reliable. I've owned an S type for a few years with no problems and in my opinion take the gamble - definitely worth it!
