i think it's hard to compare it to the FF7 remake. Visually and narratively, the original was completely different. Ff7 remake is a re imagining of the og FF7. We are talking about 23 years of technological advancements. The OG last of us came out 9 years ago, and in my opinion, it 100% percent holds up today (minus the controls which i never liked to begin with). Not only that but the ps4 got a remastered which looked a bit better than the OG as well. Honestly, we did not need a remake now. Maybe in another 10 years but not right now. Ok, with that rant out of the way, do I think new comers to the series should play the old ones? nah, it's the same game. Let this be your first experience to the game and it's wonderful story. I would say that this game is really for you guys...the new people to the story. For us that have already played the OG and the remastered...I think we are ok.

I'm glad you admit the OG ff7 is jank. Even if you didn't realize that's what you were saying. There was alot of cryptic stupid stuff that's really important that you can easily miss without the official prima guide. Which ff7 was one of the first games to have the official guide in mind when they were designing it. I would say the remake makes objective improvements and fleshes out characters that weren't really that deep in the original

The gameplay is the story in this case. If that doesn't make sense at first, that's okay. The game design was centered around immersing the player into this tale, told in an interactive but very set way, allowing you to sort-of experience two characters (one really, but Ellie is there for so much it's almost as if you play her too... Which you do). Gameplay is normally the glue or throughway that allows the other elements of the game to interact with each other alongside the user's input and experience. It's the programming's side of our interface with the game. So when gameplay leans into story - especially in Telltale games or open-ended games with tons of player agency and not so much even a game like this one - it does so by making PLAYING the story the primary "draw" of the game. So yeah, the gameplay is the story, and we should be getting on board with the idea that "story/plot/narrative based or driven" games (all games are actually player-driven, only some are narrative-pulled) allows elements to merge with each other, most especially gameplay and narrative. A really good example is Hades.

For me, it's like buying a UHD 4K blu-ray of a movie you had on DVD. I have 6 versions of Halloween (1978), each with different upgrades and improvements to various parts. If the movie or game, has some deeper meaning for me, then I'm the type of crazy person that is completely OK with purchasing a movie or game I already have in order to see those improvements. Movies have been doing this for ages, so the discussion of what makes a remaster/remake of a game worth it, seems incredibly outdated to me.
@oneandonlyjark2 жыл бұрын
No, those are remasters. Even with added scenes or touchups, still wouldn't be remake movies. That's when they film a whole new movie from scratch, new actors, crew and set, and release it with modern marketing and probably modern sensibilities with modern editing. They could even keep the storyboards 100% the same, but as long as there are different names in the credits, it's still a remake. Director's Cuts and upscaled versions and re-releases are squarely remastered territory, and we shouldn't be considering either thing in the same vein like you have. This game straddles the line between remake and remaster; technically a remake (faithful adaptation style), effectively a remaster (not so effectively, since they cut content and upped the price beyond what the original ever was, even adjusted for inflation).

Can’t deny how beautiful the game looks BUT increased graphics and mostly quality of life improvements do not justify the price of $70, a price of a brand new game. They are charging more for this remake then they did when the game came out as an original game back in 2013, and the price is more than what last of 2 was when it came out as an original game. Maybe justifiable for first timers but this could’ve been an EASY recommendation for EVERYONE if the asking price was $30, $40 max. I’d rather pay full new game price of $70 for a game like God of War Ragnarok.

Doesn't matter. He took the option away from her. Her body, her choice.
@HoboJoe100002 жыл бұрын
@@godmagnus That's the issue, she never had a choice to begin with. Working in the medical field(medical laboratory), informed consent is an important thing and that doctor willingly and intentionally obfuscated any attempt at proper informed consent. If we view Joel finding those recordings/noted that this was another shot in the dark as canonical, which since it exists in the game we should, it puts more weight towards his decision being the correct one morally. Long story short, it's not as simple as her body, her choice. Is it their body, their choice for prisoners to be offered reduced sentences and some cash for getting bitten by malaria-infected mosquitoes and given untested compounds to treat the disease? How about offering impoverished African-Americans free healthcare to participate in a study that they know nothing about, telling them it'd only last 6 months, then continuing it to 40 years? These are extreme examples, but are two of the cornerstones of informed consent laws. Along with that, we need to discuss both the ideas of altruism, and how we know it to exist in the world biologically, and the topic of surviving versus living again. Without going too much into altruism and the idea that true altruism doesn't exist in a biological sense, this is also Joel's opportunity to give Ellie the same thing she gave him, the experience of living versus surviving. This decision also weighs in on "the greater good" versus tribalism and how neither are an ideal choice. Simply put, we're repeatedly shown throughout the game that people are out for their own in this post-apocalyptic world. The group Joel takes Ellie away from, the doctor he kills, literally every human they meet all have their own selfish narrative in the story and surprise, surprise Joel also makes the selfish decision as we would expect when viewing how this world is shown to us. The beautiful thing about that ending is it can be viewed through so many lenses and the narrative shifts through each lens. Through Ellie, we see issues of control and trust. Joel took her control over her own life away from her, which is a major theme of the second game, but also(my interpretation of the final moments of the game) she asks him to swear to her at the end not to glean the truth, that she already knows, but to know he did it with her best interests in mind. From Joel's perspective, he's seeing an already dubious organization refusing to tell Ellie the full story, hide the fact that this will kill her (something she definitely didn't know mind you), along with that, hide the fact that this has been done before without developing a vaccine(and don't even get me started on the science behind that since that literally makes Joel's decision the correct one without question all things considered), and if it succeeded would put that dubious organization in control of the most useful technology in mankind.

I respect your opinion and your final review! Good job! However, everytime I think about a remake, it always brings me back to Resident Evil (2002). That game is the perfect example of what a remake is and should be. It maintained the essence of what made it great, but took risks and gave us more story, depth, challenges, and most of all horror (It's main purpose). The developers were the same that did the 1996, and they had the opportunity to create a masterpiece from a masterpiece, and they took it! Part 1 received a new fresh paint, however, it's still based from the masterpiece from 2013, and they did not took any risks with their own product! A great example for this is, when you write a paper on Microsft Word, you can save it as a Word document as the final format. However, if you save it as a PDF, it creates a better version of that word document, but it does not change the original paper. It's just a sharper and cleaner presentation. In other words, if you add or substract from that original paper, you created a whole new product, and if you save it as a PDF, you can have that new project with a clean perspective. Bottom line, I respect the the work the did with Part 1, but if they had the same mentality from those who created RE (02), they could create a even better game than the original. And if people didn't like it, the can still go back and play the original anyway. That's is the beauty of gaming. If they took chances in Part 2, regarding Joel and other characters, why not take chances of giving them more narrative for Part 1? Wasted opportunity!
@oneandonlyjark2 жыл бұрын
Forgive me, but what were the risks taken with REmake 1? If we're talking about balancing risks & faithfulness, REmake 2 is probably a better (and more recent) example of perfect balance in that franchise. And boy was it risky - not just in terms of plot and game design, but the cultural backdrop for it. To wit, the original RE2 was allowed to cement itself as an example of a quintessential sequel like "The Empire Strikes Back" or "Aliens" movies (in a year where every major hit is remembered as a GOAT, no less) over 20+ years. REmake 1 had a scant six years between it and its original, and by 2002 the series had not taken any major risks with its mainline titles yet.

I would say it’s definitely worth the price point for a new-to-the-series player, with the quality of life improvements and accessibility options being great additions. I would also argue that it made no sense to spend so much time and money on a complete rebuild of a game that really isn’t that old, without something more radical being introduced. No one will argue about the quality of the game, but I guess we’ll have to see if Naughty Dog’s investment pays off financially for them in the end.

I think the true villain here is Sony gouging people for two generations with this title. TLOU Part 1 wouldn't feel so contrived if there wasn't already a PS4 remake that is also available in the PS Plus Collection. If the narrative is all that matters, you could save your money for a console at this point and spend a fraction towards an HBO subscription when the show airs.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at G4 now. Gotta be some great gossip going on with them either telling Frosk to her face they’re deleting that video or her finding out from other YT channels it’s down.

All these comments about the price. While I agree and don't support the idea you all make it sound like you're being forced to spend $70. Not like it won't go on sale or just don't buy.

If you've never played the first game then it's absolutely worth the price. If this is your 3rd go around? Nah.

Naughty dog just building a engine and tools for ps5 .Sony just montenize R&D.Jake and dexter remake would be good ,instead of this depressing game.

I bought Logan The Wolverine Steelbook Ultra 4K for $80 bucks, Drop another $50 for Zack Snyder's Justice League Ultra 4K, While the Last of US part 1 Cost Me $70 dollars, and while Logan The Wolverine gonna last me about 3 hours of entertainment, same as Zack Snyder's Justice League, The last of US part 1 on the other hand, gonna last me about a Month of entertainment, I make this comparison because Movies and Video Games are both media entertainment, and they both cost about the same but while movies only offer a límited time of entertainment, Video Games can be played for hours upon week's Even months, So yeah $70 dollars it definitely worth it

There’s plenty of people that haven’t played TLOU yet, like myself so, for me yes. Maybe not $70 though.

So is G4 a television channel or is a KZbin channel. I haven't found this on television but also the KZbin channel doesn't get enough views on videos for me to justify them spending money on all these journalists to create these videos.

A remake, within 9 years, feels a bit rushed.
@hartonosutrisno54522 жыл бұрын
its more like REMASTERED V2 rather than REMAKE in my opinion. After playing on PS3, PS4 (remastered) and PS5, I feel nothing was being changed massively on PS5 because everything is still there on PS3 and PS4. Remake means you need changed the core from scratch with more features and fresh gameplay style while Remastered means you only tweaked your current game with more modern graphics and textures, thats it. Take an example from Resident Evil PS1 (1996) and Resident Evil GameCube (2002), thats what you called REMAKE because everything was being changed massively from Gameplay, Map placement, Items, and even added new enemies you faced against. This one??? It doesnt, it lacked most of it and they just being too rushed working on it to appeal TLoU fanbase with more improvement on graphics, settings and THATS IT, nothing added since it was already present on PS3 and PS4 version.

Said it wasnt worth it before it came out cause its not a real remake Like why did they do that instead of making a real remake with a different telling of the story and gameplay changes

Why I'm having this feeling it's a full fledged paid review! You guys really hit it up a notch in spreading as much as positivity as possible in selling this 70$ glorified remaster
