For me personally, the price tag would have been worth it if they had gone the extra mile and upgraded the gameplay with some mechanics from last of us 2, namely the dodge mechanic. The prone I could have done without, since stealth is already pretty decent, but the melee combat and combat in general had much more depth in part 2 which made it so much more fun, so I was really hoping to see that here.

In my opinion, remakes should be reserved for games that fell flat at launch due to the technology of the time not being powerful enough to fully realise the vision, we should be remaking the 5-6/10 cult classics not the 9-10/10 masterpieces that still hold up. Edit: this got way more attention than I thought it would, so I thought I'd just clarify a few things; 1) I'm not saying I personally think TLoU is a 9-10/10 masterpiece, I'm just saying thats the general consensus on the game. 2) since people are replying with their own ideas for cult classic remakes, I thought I'd just share mine. Okay, so it’s clear that they put considerable effort into the visuals and such, but I’m not so sure it’s as greatly appreciated as it would’ve been had they chosen to remake a game that DOESN’T hold up when viewed through the modern lens (and I don’t care what anyone says but TLOU Remastered on the PS4 still holds up perfectly AND maintains smooth 60FPS performance). Again, I don’t begrudge anyone that’s a huge TLOU fan and wants to go out and get this. I’ve just already experienced this game enough times that the visual upgrade isn’t enough to entice me to see it through again right now (I may pick it up when it’s relatively cheap just to have-for at whatever future date I DO decide I want to play through TLOU again).

I believe the 70-dollar price tag is part of the "improved gameplay". That is: because there's still some warmth in the story of the first game, the player wouldn't feel miserable enough by modern day standard. So Naughty Dog would rip you off by charging 70 dollars for an un-necessary remaster of a 9-years-old game which lies about being a remake. Basically enemy attack from left front and right, you can block or parry based on timing. You can attack these places too with a light or heavy attack. There is also magic, and archery. Probably one of the main reasons for this getting a green light is an investment. Make an updated version for modern consoles, and when the shitty TV show comes out and attracts a bunch of people to the IP, some will wanna play the games. Make a brand new shiny paint job to attract the guys into dropping more money for both games. I mean it's probably why they went with the PT.1 name, to make it very clear to the average viewer which your supposed to play first, and then pressure them into getting the first one in fear of missing out on stuff for PT.2.

Remake of a game 9 years old, a game that already has seen a beautiful remaster, a game that didn't had any serious problems to justify that a "remake" would fix them. And the remake costs more than the original game when it was released! Remember reading Steam reviews that C&C remaster was "another cash grab from EA", a remaster of two games from middle 90's, with remastered sound/FMVs/Mod support/Console missions and all the expansions, at the cost of 20 bucks = "cash grab"... @@TheMusic4Soul lmao, the remaster was good enough to the point where in 2022…it still looks and feels like it could last for up to 2-3 more years before it’s age really started to show. Jak and Daxter (2001) and Uncharted (2007) deserved a remake before TLOU (2013). Unlike the remaster, the remake doesn’t even have multiplayer lol. Another thing to think about is that a lot of people were able to play TLOU Remaster because of the game being included with many PS4 consoles. TLOU Remaster has also been on the PS Plus Collection since the PS5 launched in November 2020. There isn’t a single reason that’s good enough to defend the $70 price tag of TLOU remake aka TLOU re-remaster, *especially* without multiplayer.

Can we stop calling it a remake? It isn’t. It’s a remaster. The gameplay is the same, the cutscenes are the same, the dialogue is the same, the music is the same, everything is the same except for the visuals. It’s a $70 dollar REMASTER for a game that isn’t even 10 years old. Don’t even said in a press release that the only reason they made this thing is that it was easy and they wanted to make money. It’s literally just a cash grab. Seriously, if they can’t even include prone and the other gameplay features from the sequel then how is it not a cash grab remaster?

To the best of my understanding the "Remake" description just comes from the fact that this is technically an entirely new game made from scratch, just meant to be identical to an older one, as opposed to how remasters are usually taking the old game on the old engine and just updating it. Really the whole argument comes down to whether or not a game is a remaster if it doesn't use any of the old game's files.
@VexAcer2 жыл бұрын
One of the main reasons it feels like the old TLOU holds up in your head is because of how it handled its presentation. Pretty much anything that gives you a close look at the graphics like the cutscenes are all just prerendered FMV. The in-game graphics are a somewhat close approximation to those cutscenes that you think the cutscene graphics are how the game actually looks. Not to downplay the visuals of the original though. It's super impressive and squeezing everything out of the hardware, but it's still a PS3 game at the end of the day.

I played this game on the PS3 for the first time a few years after launch and absolutely loved it, then I played the PS4 remastered version a couple years ago a couple months before TLOUP2 launched to refresh myself on the story before playing the sequel. This game is only 9 years old, it seriously does not need a remake. I can understand why they did port it and did a graphics overhaul for the PS4, considering the game came out around the same time as the PS4 launch and they wanted to give PS4 owners the ability to play the game (given the PS4 is not backwards compatible with the PS3) but rebuilding the literal exact same game from the ground up with some graphical improvements just seems like a waste of money and resources to me personally... The game is 9 years old, not 20...

I don't think anyone with more than 20 years of experience playing games or anyone familiar with game development will deny that this is essentially a copy paste of the skeleton of the original game (level geometry, animations and the original's voices and acting) except with new visual assets and a couple of bells and whistles. This is definitely more of a remaster than a remake. If it were a remake then why werent the actual gameplay improvemets from TLOU2 added here while they were "rebuilding the game from the ground up"? I think we all know the answer is simply because the game itself wasn't actually rebuilt from he ground up. I'd probably check this out if it was priced more fairly and actually advertised for what it is, and what it is is a game from 2013 with a new coat of paint. It also doesn't help that this kind of gameplay isn't very replayable to me and instead of taking the opportunity to make it a repayable experience, they just didn't, so I'll live without it.

i like it quite a lot. imo, it allows for writers to create flawed characters who have good and bad traits in them. i can relate more with a flawed person vs a goodie two shoes who has done nothing wrong or an absolute scum villain with no redeeming traits

Dude you’re so right about current gen consoles not doing 60 frames. They hyped us all up when they said we would be 60 frames not mentioning that it would be hidden behind a performance mode with the fidelity of a ps4 pro. Or previous gen Xbox. Had us all thinking we’d finally be able to play like the pc players who’ve been playing at 60 frames for like 15-20 years now. Just to end up with a graphics setting that’s useful for no more than just taking in game photos. Luckily this doesn’t apply to all currency gen but I’d say most so far - PS5 User

If TLOU Part 2 was released on pc it would take them no time at all to implement some of the gameplay changes into part 1. That would be the only selling point enough for me to consider buying this game again. I'd encourage people to vote with their wallets (Not with death threats) and show studios and developers that we're tired of the shameless cash grabs.

4:40 it's easy to download an iso and play emulated. The reason has more to do with people that can't stand with older graphics and controls, which i disagree completely. Just learn how to play it, the original experience is like that. If not, every game will be a Third Person Shooter. And the art style will hold up forever. The first RE Remake is a better way in my opinion, it mantains the original concept while fixing some level design and updating the visual quality without changing the artistic view. Because it was made by the same guy, Shinji Mikami.

That intro cutscene you chose, pretty much summed my thoughts up. Can't really say if it's worth it for a seasoned player of the game, but you can't deny the view. Had they included prone and dodge mechanics like in Part 2 that would've been a game changer. I mean they already had to build everything from the ground up, so why not use the opportunity to really beef up the experience. TLOU Remaster on PS4 already looked and ran great, and never during my time with that did I think it needed a true remaster. So I'd much rather have another spin-off one shot adventure maybe about Tommy's time with the Fireflies or finally that long-awaited TLOU 2 Factions Multiplayer.

Played it through twice, that's enough for me. Really looked forward to the second one even though I had to wait years for it. Saw the rumours and was conflicted. I accepted Joel dying could have been done well, towards the end of the game and to save Ellie. Instead it's at the start and is just needlessly grim and pointless. Druckman doing his "destruction of toxic masculinity" thing. Last of Us 1 is ruined by part 2. There's no point bothering to save Ellie and Joel knowing the ending of part 2. Also I expected a sequel to have something about the infection and Ellie's immunity, yet it was barely mentioned. That was a very important plot point but it was completely glossed over in favour of Druckman wanting to preach about "violence bad".

Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is my standard for gutted remasters. It's price on launch was enough to tolerate the removal of both spec ops and it's infamous MP. if anything is gonna get me to pick up The Last of Us Remastered Part 2: Electric Boogaloo, it's gonna be for the Accessibility features, the people who actively used those features are the only people I see benefitting from this release, I'm not blind, but the fact that the game can be played blind actually makes me want to do a blindfolded run with all the accessibility features turned on. outside of that, I guess I'm more just confused as to why this game wasn't saved for the 10th anniversary next year, usually these graphical overhaul games are saved for an "Anniversary" edition, so if anything I'm gonna wait until the 10 year Anniversary to pick it up. The other thing that's making it feel more like another remaster is the lack of Dodge and Prone. and I don't exactly buy the excuse that they weren't part of the original vision for the game, cause there's super early gameplay footage from the original game's alpha build that shows Joel dodging clickers. and as for Prone, I don't really buy the excuse that it was game breaking either, if anything that really just shows me two things, one, they couldn't be bothered fully remaking the maps to account for prone, and two, the AI won't be improved much outside of the basic patrolling and tracking. Prone is what gave Part 2's combat encounters so much variety in the ways you could traverse a level, and it's what made the AI feel so smart, they had to check under cars, under stairs, under tables, under literally anything that another person could fit under. without that extra layer of level traversal, people are going to be able to get through encounters the same way they would if they just booted up Remastered on the PS4. Either way, I'd say if you're the average player, just pick up TLoURemastered, it's much cheaper and still provides an amazing experience to this day.

@@Phantom-kc9ly I actually don’t mind Tess’ new model, every other model that I’ve seen has changes that make sense for the new engine, the new model that bugs me in particular though is Joel’s, something’s off about Joel’s new model, like his face has been squished. The supposed moral ambiguity of Joel is one of the biggest aspects of this story that are completely misunderstood. What is morally grey about his actions? Killing cannibals, rapists, killers before they kill you? It’s the wasteland. You have to adapt to survive. Where is the issue? Or do you mean how he killed a bunch of terrorists with unbelievably lacklustre technology and supplies at their disposal who are willing to murder a little girl to pull of a scientific feat I would be dubious about in our modern, functioning world. They were going to kill her immediately. They don’t know what effects that would have on her brain, which the hoped to study. What an absurd idea that you would kill your specimen before running any tests. And I find it hard to believe they got all they needed in the amount of time you spent in their facility. Stop. Joel did nothing wrong. The world was fucked, a cure would not save humanity, it’s gone. Some literally filthy terrorists weren’t going to change that, least of all not during a civil war in which a cure would only serve as leverage as they have no means of distribution. Look how long it took the majority of the population to get access to their stupid coof pokes.

100 percent this. Joel actually goes through the heroes journey in this game.
@calebbarnhouse4962 жыл бұрын
Joel is certainly not a good person, he's selfish, and does a lot of bad things, he was a good man when he could afford to be, but when he got hungry he became a murdering bandit, however pretty much nothing he does in game is even really morally ambiguous other then the fireflys, but that's only if you believe they can make a vaccine, which is a very unlikely thing
@skipperdipper51862 жыл бұрын
This is the most braindead thing I have ever seen in my entire life. Joel admitted that he was a hunter, a term for people that kill innocents just to steal their food. Is he wrong for killing every Firefly in the hospital? That is the question of the first game. It's not a simple 'No, he's actually a God and has committed no sin'
