Just ordered one of these after sending my MPC LIve II back. MPC LIve II feels more like a suite of tools in a box rather than a cohesive experience. I also didn't like how it just throws you into folders of sound files with zero tags or categorization. For newbies, thats just way too overwhelming. Heck, I found that the Electron Digitone has a better workflow for selecting instruments than the MPC. You can filter and sort by type. So, this box looks a lot nicer. I can just use a battery pack if I want portability. Grouping instruments and sounds just looks more 'fun' than the MPC is.

Ben using it for a few weeks now, agree that they could have improved the unit with more horsepower. Could have been constrained by space/heat or economics. Looking forward to see what additional control over the synths they provide in updates. Perhaps more synths as well. Now working out the kinks using it with external gear.

For me, the key was Transferrable Skills. I've used Maschine since the MK1, upgraded to an MK3 and I could not face having to learn something new for doing small venue Open Mic nights. So I'm building up my sets on the M+, and when the stability is delivered in upcoming Firmware Updates I can take it out with me and leave the Big Computer at home.

Thank you for posting.. it looks fairly impressive. I might get a NI MK3 Micro... $269 or even the NI MK3 (looks just like the MK3+ with screens and knobs) but $649. At $269 the Mikro is such a low risk. Around the same price as an average Behringer analog synth but fully conmpatible with NI Maschine/Kontact/Komplete as well as an above average midi interface for any other daw. The Roland MV-1 Verselab work station for $699 also looks incredible. A little bit if 4x4 drumming combined with step sequencer... too many good options out there.

I’ve been a machine user since the mk1 ,I now use maschine studio alongside jam when creating. I’m now looking to upgrade to the + due to it’s standalone capability and also the fact that’s it’s hybrid too,,and that it’s now compatible with the jam controller. Although the studio is more than capable of producing a track from start to finish I just absolutely hate being shackled to the computer as it has a negative effect on my creativity and that’s the main reason why the upgrade to the + is a certainty for me. I want to be able to use the + in conjunction with my Hydrasynth and all of my existing Native instruments software & expansion that I have accumulated over the years. I reckon it’s most definitely the right decision for me when it comes down to purchasing the + Just like to thank you for sharing your thoughts on the + it’s very much appreciated!!!,looking forward to seeing more maschine + videos from your channel 😊👍

Yeah, the only thing I think about is that an existing Maschine user/ecosystem person-this device would be a godsend for getting the portability that Gabe enjoys so much. Get you compostion 95% there while portable/composing-*then hooking up the monster studio computer seems like it would be great.

And you didn't mention its arrangement capabilities! Its straight awesome! Personally I wouldn't recommend the M+ (its not really portable, pricy, buggy, no battery, etc). But the MK3 regular offers absolutely all of the benefits at half the price (or even less). Ever since I started using the MK3 (about 2 years ago) I only use Logic on my laptop for mastering and thats it. All the creating process, arrangement and mixing is done beautifully on the MK3 hands on 99.99% with the hardware . My advice: Wait for the M+2 or get de MK3 now (you wont regret it).

Hey! I’m thinking of replacing my Mc101 with a Maschine+. I used to have an Mk3 and loved it but want stand alone for gigs. Can it replace my mc101 for live performance? Currently on mc101 I get 16 scenes of 4 tracks - so basically 16 different beats split up over four tracks; (Kick, Snare, Percussion 1, percussion 2). Overall around 8-10 sounds per beat then I’d like to use a few synth sounds too. I’d prefer to work within one project for my live performance, will the Maschine plus hold up CPU/stability wise? This is exactly the problem with Machine+. It is so good, it makes you forget it's a stand-alone device. Once you've forgotten that you run into restrictions that a modern computer with all of it's processing power might not have. But once you accept it's a stand alone and you just consider efficiëncy a bit (like using sends, removing unused effects and patches, and maybe freezing a CPU expensive track) it's possibilities are endless. And all that without the need for a PC. I just love the workflow and creative process of this thing. Finally you can jam all you want, sequence, mix, sample, resample, arrange and so on, with up to 32 individual tracks without even looking at a screen whilst sitting on your couch. There's litteraly nothing that comes even close.

@@symbiat0 IMHO the MPC live is a different bread of device, the Maschine is much more recognisable for DAW users if you ask me, and gives a lot more DAW-like features without the need to look on a screen/pc. The M+ beats a lot of the groove box on the workflow and has huge potential... if NI can handle all the firmware development required for that and bring more of its Komplete plugins and why not 3rd party plugins. The MPC is less pleasant in terms of workflow, but is already quite mature on the software side (stability & features). For now, Circuit, Verselab, MC-101/707 though they have less potential to evolve, provide more of a polished experience, each on its speciality. I already own the M+, MC-101 and the Blackbox but I'm very very tempted by the workflow and the polished feature set of the Verselab.

Correct. I think they have set the building blocks for something special. The one thing they have on other stand alones is the fact that their sounds and plugins are amazing. Assuming they can move towards full NI compatibility at some point, it will be an absolute power house. Very curious too if the merger with izotope will add even more to the table... I will admit that not having a built in battery is silly. A power pack and cable isn't the worst thing but also just kind of like.. why? Why did you not do this? lol. It takes a little longer to process time stretching and truncating of longer samples but that's to be expected. Those are the only two things that have bothered me about it thus far to be honest.

It's clearly a small PC jammed inside a Maschine III. I get they were trying to save money by using existing molds and hardware but it still feels like they were shoehorning the software to work within the limitations. The big elephant in the room is Native Instruments being bought out by an investment firm recently, if the Alpha Theta buyout of Pioneer DJ is anything to go by we will see new colour variations and a subscription fee for this soon...

So many things were hoped for with this product, but in the end I wound up feeling underwhelmed on launch day. Hearing so many reports about how quickly you can max out the CPU sure didn't help. They make pretty good products, but if you're going to price it in line with various Akai and Elektron products (in Canada, most Elektron "large" boxes are within $50 CAD of the Maschine+) they best be bringing their A game. The other issue for me though, is Native Instruments is insanely slow about fixing things through updates - sure, they do come (well, unless you're a Traktor user that's part of the large group of people that's requested the ability to natively use Shoutcast without workarounds in Traktor - they keep sticking to their guns and offer streaming only through IceCast, and it's been that way since Traktor DJ Studio 3)... But I look at things based upon what they have now, not what's on a roadmap. The other thing that rather saddens me is that it's supposed to be a standalone box, yet you can't get into the nitty gritty of sound design without plugging it into the computer, at which point I would argue that it would have been a lot better (and almost $1k CAD cheaper) to just get a mk3..
@symbiat0

Good points above. The M+ came out while I was in the process of looking at grooveboxes. I had decided on the Akai Live II but then decided I would wait and see what the M+ brought to the table. I've actually been using the plus over the last few months and the one thing that didn't quite ring true is the limitation. The ease of resampling means the workflow is suited to coming up with groups of virtual instruments and then writing them to a sample (sampling it) . The sample engine is very low on resources and I regularly use 16 groups without much problem at all Everything I do, I will resample using the sync option on the sample menu. If you compare this to a daw or even the maschine software then yeah it could be described as limiting. If you do compare this to other groove boxes like digitakt, octatrack or akai samplers then it's easily on par if not far more flexible. I think the maschine plus suffers from being exactly the same as the mk3 in regards to the way it operates. The plus and the mk3 have exactly the same workflow and this means its valid to criticise it because you could literally get a decently powered laptop and a mk3 for the same price (if not cheaper) than the maschine plus.

I liked that I didn't have to learn a new workflow or buttons TBH. At the end of the day you are buying a stand alone MK3. I do wish there was a better way to time stretch/pitch samples. I get frustrated that the AU only operates as a looper pretty much and that you can't chop samples in there. It's such a powerful tool but for those of us who aren't loop based beat makers, it's like a nice big toy we can't really use to your advantage.

Am i correct to assume that with Maschine MK3 you basically get the same experience, just have to connect a pc/laptop to it? This costs so much more and is so weak compared to the Akai boxes.
@GabeMillerMusic
@GabeMillerMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's the same experience, the MK3 came first and this is modeled after it. I don't think it's weak, but I definitely want to try some MPC stuff in the nearish future.

@@GabeMillerMusic Sorry, i just meant weak compared to the Force. As groovebox it's definitely more capable than most. The problem with these DAW-like grooveboxes is, that i don't have so much fun than with something more limited/focused. And that affects my creativity somehow.

@BecomingProductions

@@maxpeter4171 Agreed, although I'd happily have paid that price if it was fairly specced and you could edit the on-board synths to a reasonable degree. Seriously in clouding Massive, a wavetable synth, and not providing way to adjust the wavetable of a patch. Thats just bad design.

I'm an MPC Live MK I user and I gotta agree, it's arguably not as "powerful" in raw numbers compared to Maschine+ but it's designed and optimized around its limitations and unlike Maschine... it's not tethered to the wall. And the more comparable MPC, the One, is half the price. I can see why someone might use Maschine MK3 and a laptop, but the plus seems almost pointless
@BecomingProductions
@BecomingProductions 3 жыл бұрын
@@ItsJustEmK Fully agree, I have the MPC-X, Live 2, and Force (plus plenty of others aside from Akai devices) and none of them have the hardware specs that Machine have. Yet they they all run perfectly and performance hardly ever comes to mind as they do what they're designed to do. The same can't be said of Maschine Plus. I understand the code base of the NI software was designed to run on a computer, but if they couldn't develop it to run on a standalone box without performance issues they shouldn't have released it.
@BecomingProductions

I owned one for less than 24 hours and couldn't wait to get rid of it. In all the grooveboxes I've tried or looked into, I've never seen as much talk about hitting CPU and resource limits. Yet its one of the main topics with Mashine Plus. I just found it far too underpowered and constrained for the price. In reality you could buy a used Maschine mk3 and laptop that would FAR out perform this, for less than the price of the Plus.

maschine + is good but its just a daw in a box and paying 1.1k for some stuck plugins in ableton and a sampler is kind of meh, some groove box like digitakt have way more funny features that brings something else than what you would do in a daw

Honestly no it’s not,,,to get the best out of it is in controller mode,,personally I think we all been ripped off of the price,,,it’s not really a standalone I get crackle sounds a lot and it’s a new maschine,,the ram sucks on it big time,,they made a face cover with no good engine power,,,they talked a good game but delivered bull,,,,,,,it’s just a upgraded controller that’s all it’s not much of a standalone,,,maschine and mpc need to team up and remake a standalone to be (better and touch screen and more ram space and also start off with a TB hard dive in it ,,,now the look of maschine is nice but under the hood not really that good.
