Milwaukee Tool has a new 40" Steel Work Cart that is fairly high price for a work cart. They also claim it is a 2-drawer and it is really a single drawer work cart. Is it worth the close to $500 price tag?
Some of the Steel Work Cart is laid out very nice. The large top tray can support up to 300 lbs. and includes a 3-section parts tray and 2 removable storage cups. The cups can flip upside down for a flush surface or be completely removed for vertical pipe storage. A convenient fold-out work tray can hold your laptop or extra tools and fasteners. A power strip allows you to charge your tools and battery packs. The sliding bottom tray, or drawer as it is counted, is equipped with heavy-duty 200 lbs. soft close drawer slides. The bottom tray can be safely secured into place with its own barrel keyed lock to prevent from accidental opening when moving the mechanic's cart on uneven surfaces.
- Dimensions-top tray: 37 in. W x 21 in. D x 3.9 in. H, upper drawer: 35.1 in. W x 16.4 in. D x 3.9 in. H, bottom pull-out tray: 34.6 in. W x 19.4 in. D x 2.8 in. H, storage area between bottom tray and upper drawer: 40 in. W x 22.1 in. D x 24 in. H
- 100 lbs. rated, soft close, ball bearing drawer slides on upper drawer
- 200 lbs. rated, soft close, ball bearing drawer slides on bottom tray
- 2 moveable storage bins can be mounted on the outside, inside, or top tray of the cart and are the perfect size for aerosol cans
- Adjustable-height storage bar for shop towels or wire spools
- Knurled push-bar side handle can be positioned to 2 heights to fit your needs
- 5 in. x 2 in. industrial grade casters with softer polyurethane wheels (2 swivel with dual pedal top brake and 2 rigid casters) support up to 700 lbs.
- Barrel key locks can independently secure the top drawer and bottom tray from accidental opening
- 4-outlet power bar with two 2.1 Amp USB charging ports provides power for your tools and electronics
- Fold out rear shelf is rated to 50 lbs. and is perfect for laptops
- Pre-cut, premium solid drawer liners help keep your tools in place
- Milwaukee M18 and M12 chargers can be mounted on either side of the storage cart with the included fasteners
- Rubber corner bumpers help protect the cart and equipment around the cart
- Reinforced V-notches in the top tray help hold pipe or lumber when cutting
- Cup storage holders can be removed to accommodate longer pieces of pipe
- Assembled dimensions (including side handle) and casters installed is approximately 45 in. W x 22.1 in. D x 39 in. H and weighs 141.7 lbs.

It’s built for electricians. It will be on the move all the time on a job site. It will never sit against a wall. The top drawer is shallow so you can remove the cups and put pipe benders through the holes. It’s definitely not for mechanics but perfect for electricians on a job site. Electricians use a ton of pack out products for the bottom shelf and pulling them out for easier access. Totally worth the money (if you’re an electrician but not if you’re a mechanic, you should use different options).

The "cup holders" are removable for carrying all-thread or wire-fishing sticks or any other rod-like tool, in an upright position. That's why the drawer is not deeper.

This looks like every basic 3 shelf cart that everyone’s modified themselves in a similar way. Soup can with a magnet screw holders. Screwed on power strip. Magnetic can holders. Old broom handle for towels. Plywood shelf/box on sliders. Notched sides for tube. Added side shelves. Needs an extra middle shelf and 1/3 off the price (depending on material thickness)

For all the people that keep saying it's overpriced yeah sure it maybe high but that harbor freight junk is cheap crap and you end up having to rebuy when they crap out. This isn't for everyone but I do commercial refrigeration and this is by far the best cart I've ever found or used for that. Also I could see it being a huge plus for an electrician. You gotta spend money to make money and if I'm gonna spend it I'm not buying some cheap ass harbor freight cart that falls apart.
@georgebuhr
@georgebuhr 3 жыл бұрын
I just got one of these, the reason why I justified the price vs a Harbor Freight is the fact that there is a lot more room on this cart than a Harbor Freight. It doesnt look like it, but the real estate on it is quite a bit more, plus the spots for the chargers on the side, towel holder, the extra tray, etc, help it fit a specific need I had at my shop that it worked great for.

First off, bad review. Top drawer is shallow because if you opened a full size drawer all the was it will tip over the cart. The bottom drawer is there to allow you the get heavy items out easier. I've been in the building maintenance industry for 9 years and use carts like this all the time. Industrial level carts are expensive. Rubbermaid plastic carts this size are $300+ with no drawers. I'm not saying this is a cheap cart but build quality with 2 soft close drawers and good quality casters. I am not surprised by the price. As a Milwaukee fan and as a person who primarily works off a cart like this 40 hours a week pushing it several miles a day. I would consider purchasing this.

I made a cart with four casters and a lateral 2 drawer file cabinet....basically the same size, fully lockable with a key and cost me $50 all in. File cabinet was used and casters on sale. Customizable for whatever you want and no worries of it tipping with a safty measure only allowing one drawer out at a time. Drawers are ment to be packed end to end with paper and have handled the weight of my tools and hardware just fine.

Appreciate the time it took to showcase this item. Milwaukee has been working hard to put out some quality equipment out the past few years. For the most part they've succeeded and is definitely reflected in their prices. That said, they seem to fall short on their tool boxes, chests, and now this cart. I know it's a niche item but the cons still seem to equal or exceed the pros on it. Easy pass on this for me. Yes, folks. The mighty Casey has struck out, lol. Thanks for the video. Stay safe!

I saw these a few weeks ago at the Mundy Twp Mi. Home Depot. I texted a pic to my younger son. He thought it was interesting. I personally think it is just missing a mid pull out drawer...sounds non odd I know but I have my reasons...lol At 40" it's almost the size of my US General 44" roll cabinet. That's huge for a work cart. And it weighs nearly as much empty...wow... fairly heavy duty cart. I could see another shallow mid drawer like the bottom one to store motor parts on as we tare down a motor or store components on during a motor swap. It would allow easy access to the components on the pull out drawers. Like you said, everyone will see something different in it. For me...it just needs another pull out drawer/shelf.

It looks beefy in the video but it seems like Milwaukee didn't really have a single direction in mind with this. It almost looks like a slight mishmash of ideas that don't totally work together. One thing I would like to see on something like this would have been a small built-in/included vise instead of those v-notches. I have always found myself needing a third hand to hold things more than anything else and it would be a great thing to have included without buying one separately, especially considering the price.

On my cart if you pull the 2 cups out of the top tray & flip them upside down & put them back in the round holes the bottom of the cups are solid so they plug the holes & don't use up space in the top tray & it won't allow anything to fall through holes in the tray that way.

Looks like a great cart. Like you said, $299 id buy 2 of them! $488.......I don’t think so. Too much money for what it is. I’m sure price will drop in the upcoming months, especially around Christmas time. One Home Depot in Palm Beach County has 2 of them in stock. I’ll bet they are fishing to see what kind of demand is out there. When they realize a vast majority of their customer base is relaying the inflated price is pushing them from purchasing it, Milwaukee will drop it to a more reasonable price point. Thanks Brian!

Good review. Looks like you’re really trying to like it. My takeaway is no. The cost is insane. The functionality is so limited. The bottom drawer is, well, what the heck? Now if you could move it up under the top drawer it would make more sense. And you can’t pull the drawers out all the way? That would drive me crazy. The cups? I see no functionality whatsoever. It does look nice but even at $200 I wouldn’t buy it. A total miss for Milwaukee on this one.

Dude, those cups are meant to be put in upside down to cover that hole. And if you really need to use the cup outside of the hole just make a cover with plywood. And if you really want a shelf on top of that drawer, again, just make one out of plywood. It makes sense to leave it open for packouts. Anyway that’s what I would do if I had the money to buy one of these.

Little taller with more drawings and a top cover it would definitely be worth 500

I’d buy it for $250. There are just too many better priced options out there. Could you put the 2 cup upside down when not being used to give a flat surface on the top tray?

You can turn them, but look at them when I show the bottoms, they have holes.... That is also why the drawer is short.

I think the US General tool cart with 5 drawers at Harbor Freight is a better deal at a little over $229.00. Milwaukee like Snap-On or Mac Tools, Matco and others you're paying for the name brand.

4-500... that's crazy. But that's not the killer. At 150lbs... how is it even considered mobile... lol... it ain't going real far.

As an electrician, we mainly use the plastic carts. Uline/h.freight/rubbermaid. Because their lighter and more durable. They have less nuts, bolts, welds & failure points. They have to survive vicious van rides, loading and unloading at every site. So, at 150lbs this is not for us. This is obviously meant to hit a floor, be assembled and pushed around that location for life. I hope Milwaukee comes out with a plastic cart as well.

Nope! Get the Harbor Freight tool cart and fill it with $200 worth hand tools for that price. The $279 HF v2 tool cart blows this away.

Why don't instead of taking off the pencil/screw trays to have a flat surface, just put them back upside down? I'm sure that'll take care of your problem.

Not sure how useful this would be in any setting. Seems like they just threw it together with not much thought.

No I bought a used 34 inch snap on TOOL BOX for 500. Why on earth would you pick this over that for $12

Man, that thing isn't even worth the volume of space it takes up, imo.

I would buy the Harbour Freight $229.00 tool cart. Forget about this Mil. cart. Harbour Freight cart giving you a locking top cover and four drawers on side latches, not to allow drawers to slide out. Way better than this Mil. Cart

That bottom "drawer/shelf" seems pointless. Would have made more sense to make it just one drawer, or put a shelf above it. Definitely doesn't seem to be worth the price, at least as far as a mechanic's cart
