Is The Molicel P42A Better Than The Samsung 40T? (Fenix TK30 Throw/Lux Test).

@@AverageReviewsYT for ebikes which is what I use these battery's for the 40t is def more stable maintains its MA rating while discharged at a high kw rating unlike the molicell. In terms of pure power the molicell is king though

@@je7647I’m terms of pure power.. me and many other people have concluded the 40t is very superior. It’s better in every category.. people bring up data sheets.. idc.. that’s not real life, and most (all?) of us conclude the same thing.. except the p45b… that’s spicier than the 40t. But good luck finding it at times, and it’s expensive 😈😈 but pick some up if you can.

These are not, and I don’t think molicell makes any lifepo4 batteries. I feel like brands stick to one or the other.. I may be wrong on that, but I have never seen a brand cross types.

Where did you get you P42A from? What’s the date code vs the Samsung. Every discharge test shows the P42A beats the 40T, not by much but it’s a clear winner. Only the 30T could outclass Molicel but now with the P45B any minor out of the gates advantage the 30T had is nearly matched by the 45B and very quickly the higher capacity allows the voltage to stay above the 30T. If I had to guess I’d say you have a 2019 P42A vs a newer 40T. Mine are 2021 with the letter L in the date code. So if you’ve got a J it would be 2019, K would be 2020. Second line will say Molicel XXX XLXXX The location of that L is your year letter. Shouldn’t be older than a J? I think?

I don’t have the batteries with me anymore, but I have done additional light testing and tested with other 40t and it still does better.. as for discharge, the 40t always takes longer to charge given a certain v, and the p42a charges a bit faster.. it’s not a matter of a minute longer when I do the testing, it’s closer to 5 minutes difference, so not huge, but noticeable. Top offs for testing is a common test I do. Both are great cells, and I would be happy with both (I want the p45b, but 18650 can’t keep them in stock lol) I just prefer the 40t due to that slight bump in power. Edit: iirc smothered chrome also was testing in a couple lights and the 40 was slightly better than 42 as far as lumens.. he deals with p45b a lot.

P45b is all I buy, other wise 40t is next in line, followed by p42a. All my experiences have been backed by other people who tested it also. I’d rather stick with factory batteries than get a p42a lol.. the extra cost isn’t worth over the performance.m

@AverageReviewsYT I'd like to try the 45b but i have to balance cost against performance and haven't been able to justify it just yet. Every time I go to buy a bulk order, the 40t is on sale so I've run these exclusively for 500 cells.

Balance cost vs performance.. if that’s the argument, then the factory batts are the winner due to giving you 95% of the power already lol.. get the p45b.. it’s worth it lol

I noticed epoch makes the molicell batts and it’s cheaper. I got some 18650 epoch ( uh the 40 or 45 amp one.. can’t remember the name). And I did a little testing and I got more power from the epoch than even mid level 18650s so I’m thinking people are right when they say molicell are rewards of epoch.

In this test it wouldn’t matter if I was at the correct throw measurement distance. I was Mainly getting a “difference” reading. With this light ideally 15m-20m should be a good distance to get a reading accurately of throw. But again.. I was testing power differences.
