Is the MPC 3 update just a watered down DAW!?

Is the MPC just a watered down DAW now? And do we still need buttons and knobs, or can we just use the touch screen instead?

I believe it should be a preference choice of whether or not you want to use the touch screen. Personally I use both but mostly buttons and knobs. I'm really soul searching on whether or not I want to update to 3 or not. I do all my beats linear anyway on all of my machines so THAT part doesn't effect me. I do love the track mixer view. It's the same as the MPC software. I'll Deffo try it out and if I don't like it I still have several older firmware files on my computer. I can go back to MPC 2. Bring it on... I'll try it!!!

I think that having the options to work the way you want in a standalone box is always appreciated.

I get that old head mpc users wouldn’t like this, but I’d say 90% of users wanted and specifically asked for this. This update is a beast. I asked for this and so many of us did.

@@trackfammusic2979 I feel you. I’ve made so many songs with vocals on my live 2. Having stems on the arranger view is going to be so dope. Disk streaming, all of it. And it’s for free. Akai has just been killing it the last 5 years. I started with maschine in 2011 so seeing akai become the complete opposite of native instruments is wild.

I been using mpc got my first one in 2003-4 I’m on my 5th one I love this new update we taking over AKAI just really eliminated the competition wit this new update if it works smoothly I feel sorry for fruity loops new logo gonna be a dried up chili pepper 🌶️

How you started talking about distractions is exactly why I got a MPC one+. I love computers but they don't make me feel musically creative. There's no rhythm to it. The 3.0 update is pretty dope. I used 2.0 for a day or two and the ease of use in 3.0 is substantially higher.

Me being a Flstudio user for over 10 years. The reason I got the MPC is because it's more Daw-like now. So I like the MPC 3 software. They wanted to appeal to us Daw users and the newer generation too. But I'd like to still use the physical buttons etc. Because I finger drumming and keyboard playing using the melodic software for a while. And I like the new workflow of the MPC 3 software. But I understand the old software too but I like the MPC 3 software better. To me, there's no right or wrong way to make a beat its the end result the final product that matters because of the many ways and styles of making a beat. Im about to be 50 years old so I have nothing against the advancement of programming music. Im not stuck back in the time like most older people. Im a whole different breed over here.

I have no problem at all with the MPC becoming a DAW, as long as it leverages it's strengths, dedicated knobs, touch screen etc. It already was a DAW, but now it's hopefully more intuitive.

IMO.. that’s exactly what it is, which is okay with me. I always wanted a Miko or Niko back in the day… I’ve always loved the idea of working in a DAW without a PC… if I want to stay old school or add the old feel, I can. I can still buy the old MPC’s.

I FELL THE SAME SENTIMENT, AKAI CAN CREATE VINTAGE SCREENS ,AS YOU MENTIONED IE.1000,2500,2000XL, 5000,60 ETC,PERFECT FOR OLD SCHOOL PRODUCERS ,THAT CAME TO A SESSION AND COULD WORK IF THEY NEVER OWN A NEWER MPCs

My reason for not getting a modern MPC was because to Me it's no different (from My perspective) from a DAW on a Computer and a Midi controller with pads like the MPK249 or Mini. Now the MPC is even more like a daw and can never compete with a PC DAW.

Nice. Which one are you planning to get? Do you mean more pads than 16? There are 8 pad banks so you can actually have 128 sounds per program or track.

I can appreciate them looking to get the younger generation into using the MPC but I think they should at least make one dedicated to the older users who have used these drum machines for years.

It would have been nice if Akai would implement the Atari Cubase kind of sequencer. They could have done this by just to rearrange the song mode into that kind of style. On the far left you see your instruments from to the bottom and your sequences horizontally in rectangular blocks (clips). Once you touch on a block (clip), it will take you to your midi sequences or whatever you call it. Akai have done this a little bit but it could have been way more less, direct and effective. This is all they had to do witg maybe a few color changes here and there but that's basically it. They have crammed the Akai Force into the mpc largely and have put a lot of mpc heads off guard. It's like you have to learn how to walk again.

Yeah I would really like of they make the strange view midi look a little more like “blocks”. Im hoping they will in later updates.

The current 2.15 firmware workflow is optimal for me. Song mode works perfectly for me until they partially broke it with how track mutes now work in 3.0. Also not wild about how you seem to be forced into defining what type of track it is in 3.0 and being able to change the type on the fly. When I start to compose, I sometimes temporarily use the built in plugins to play in notes. Once I get that squared away, I switch the track type from plugin to MIDI and use a Roland Integra 7 for more robust instruments. Then I auto sample that instrument in and change the track again to a keygroup. I think 3.0 inhibits that.

My answer is this because everybody is not the same. The beat maker and the piano player or the producer in general just people are all different it’s good to learn as many daws drum machines as possible it makes you more versatile. Listen every body is not the same . So pick what you want and feel. And end the day it’s your hard earned money you are spending. So no body’s business point blank

Yeah I agree. I think some peoples concern is that they are totally changing MPC work flow, but I think the vast majority will be happy with it. Especially after akai had a year or so to perfect it with updates.

It's the mute per sequence I'm concerned about. Sequence 1 with bass, sequence 2 bass is muted. Can I still do that.

Its annoying... people act like theyre getting nike pop ups and reading emails on their mpc... and talk like the old mpcs with the limitations and upgrades arent available...but those are too hard for most complaining... why do the new mpcs have buttons? Why do people pick a daw then want a midi keyboard? Me.. i think u hit it.. this is a direct attack on the i made the beat on the mpc and exported it to studio one crowd... theyre attempting to have one not leave at all..

Agreed. Some folks rant about how too many options hurts their workflow and such as if there aren't enough older models out there for the taking. I don't see the sense in complaining about the newer iterations if one prefers the old workflow. An older model solves that issue.

Yeah I agree. They are getting kind of pricy and harder to find parts for repairs, but I agree. the 1000 with JJOS is still an amazing option and fairly cheap

This is the Force os. That makes sense because it’s a standalone DAW workflow. The MPC is supposed to be a very intuitive drum machine sampler. Why are they over complicating it? 😂

Haha. Yeah inMusic compared to the original AKAI is not comparable, but I honestly think AKAI have been on point the past few years. Let’s see about this MPC 3 update. There seems to be a lot of decide, and I guess we have to wait until they drop it to decode if we want to stick with 2.15 or not. I’m excited to try it out though.

The units kept on freezing and had major issues with the plug ins I purchased on top of the insane price tags already for the xse .authentication problems every week on fire up. Zero fun . Went to a ableton and push 3 and I’m creating and having fun instead of fighting software. So akai in music is dead to me.
