Yes! Yes it is! Drives way better than bought the X5 and X6. Tested all of them. The 5 series is king of driving.

Really good review! You seem like you really have it. So please tell me your thoughts about this Vs the previous versions (f11 after the facelift) I can find in the same price range the new 520d and the last one 525d or even 530d. I know that the 3.0 engine is awesome but I am more interested in doing a silent and fast journey in the motorway with a reasonable consumption. Also according the numbers the G31 is way faster. Actually the G31 520d goes like f11 525d

Just bought one. 530Xd Msport Touring. As close to perfection as it can be. Cant figure out a defect, as you said. 0-100 in 5,6sec and 6 litres/100km avg commuting home/work. But choose Mediterranean Blue and Dakota brown interiors, it's the perfect match. Bravo!

Cut it down please😄 It’s more like 8l/100km commuting to work! Even if you drive on eco pro at 80 km/hour outside town, it will take around 7l/100km. But... why buying a 530Xd for that speed, when a 520 will easily do it?.. And I’m saying all this by owning a G30 530d Xdrive sedan (not touring), which is even more economic!😁

I added a comment on here over a year ago, I've had my 530D M Sport wagon for about 15 months now and it has performed flawlessly without any issues at all and covered nearly 19000 miles. I changed the oil and filter at 9500 miles myself and I'm due the first official service in June, the rear factory fittment Pirelli tyres have lasted well and will probably need replacing at @ 20/21000 miles... the servicing here in the UK is very expensive at @£450.00 for the first service, that is ...oil + oil filter + pollen filter..so to sum up the car is excellent and the servicing is far to expensive as is our UK road tax at £485.00 per year..

It’s only for 5 years after the second licence. After that, it will go down to the basic of £140 per year. The end date of such heavy tax is stated in your V5. But... to change the oil and filter yourself... If you can afford such an expensive vehicle, try sticking with the BMW approved services. It’s dear I know, but it will keep the value of the car. And a plus is that you can pay monthly for the BMW services nowadays, making your life a bit easier. Think about the future...

@@jooana4617 Hi Joo Ana I had the G31 serviced at BMW at 19000 miles, and the rear tyres replaced at 24,000 miles, I could of gone another couple of thousand miles on the them but didn't want to run them right down to the tread wear marker. I do see your point about BMW servicing but I am not paying £178.00 per hour for servicing plus parts, it's a ridiculous high price for servicing. Whilst under warranty it'll go to BMW, it's due a brake fluid change in June as its 3 years from the build date, not 3 years from 1st registration, it used to be 3 years from 1st registration but BMW changed it. I have 4 BMW vehicles , three I maintain myself, I have an e39 530i, an e92 320i and an e60 525i, all are in excellent condition and are maintained by myself to a very high standard.

Great review - I can't wait to get mine in April. Trading my 530d saloon for a 540i.touring. Hope I don't regret the engine choice. There is a delay on ordering petrol engines from BMW as more choose not to buy diesel...

Very different cars so it all depends on what you want from a car. I think the G31 is more roomier actually, compared to the X6

I purchased my 2011 550xi last March. Of course, it is a joy to drive but I am only now beginning to explore the variations of driving style that my car permits. I never even used the 7th or 8th gear until recently. They are really handy; even when driving around town. By cruising around Columbus, Ohio, I move down deep into the gear box to see what 6th, 7th and 8th gear have to offer. I used to stay up around 4, 5, and 6th gear but the RPMs were often too high. Now I slip it into 7th and 8th where the RPMs drop down to about 2,500. I am sure that I am going to save a lot of gas. The only way to discover what is possible is to drive in the manual mode for much of the day. You will quickly discover that you must get out of M1 very quickly from a standing start. Otherwise, you will hit 6,000 RPM before you know what is happening. I wish there was some way to have the starting point locked in to M2. M1 is really only useful when you are on a steep grade or trying to climb the roads around your favorite ski area.

Are you sure about that? The 8 gear ZF gearbox was introduced in 2014. As far as I know, your car has only 6 speeds...

Might be controversial here but there’s one car that’s better than the 5 and that is the Superb. It’s bigger, has a fridge built in, loads of options in the basic version. Is more economic and has a full spare wheel. Maybe it doesn’t drive as well but on any other level it wins. Btw I’ve got both
