Space Ghost Coast to Coast, is about someone bringing a gun to school. The song paints a picture of the person. a GTA addict that thinks their gangster listening to DR Dr etc. Glass animals lyrics seem random at first but you need the backstorys to understand why they put weird unusual words/phrases in there

Paije Breaks I guess every song on the album has its own interesting backstory about which I didn’t know until I read the storylines on Spotify and that made me even more into the album, but I could agree on some points made in this video, the album is not perfect but still better than not good 😄 Ps. Interesting fact is that in Dreamland single, each line represents one song of the album (for example “that worst thing you said” - It’s all so incredibly loud etc.)

A lot of Glass Animals lyrics sound goofy. I think they feel like word salad or stream of consciousness at times and for me there's nothing wrong with that because what the music emotes is still valuable and able to be felt/related to. You've got to put the word together. They're a puzzle but the pieces fit together when you get the gist of the song. "Pineapples are in my head", along with the context of the test of the lyrics , suggests to be a reference to confusion and even a headache. 😊

Space ghost coast to coast is based off a true story that Dave experience, he was friends with a kid when he was younger and all the things mentioned in the song. Eventually they grew distant when they moved away from each-other, later on in life Dave found out that kid became an attempted school shooter. The song I sung from the song is about an Ex-Friend and how they became an attempted school shooter, the singer of the song is reminiscing about times before the incident.

The seemingly random, weird lyrics are one of my favorite things about the band. Guess it's just not for everyone. There is more meaning but even if the lyrics were simply representing nostalgia from a dream state, that's at least more interesting then the cliche lyrics of most pop.
@CartersCovers4 жыл бұрын
I'll Add one thing here, the opener Dreamland is a great example of a semi boring/ laid back hazey song saved by it's lyrics in this album. In Dreamland (the song) there's one line representing each song in the album. Example : "he had a gun on the first day of high school". Referencing Space Ghost Coast To Coast. I feel whenever he mentions something random in a song, it's him saying an idea about the song, not explaining an idea or creating a sentence with it. Very unique in my opinion. Some good beats, but the boring simple ones are saved by their cool meanings. Except domistic bliss that one is eh. Melon and the coconut seems very weird and lame at a first listen, but then you realize that literally it's just a melon and a coconut talking to each other on the floor. Or is it? That's what makes this album good. I also really loved how your video was done! Great editing, I liked how you got right to business. I recommend looking at the lyrics while you listen to a song though. Especially these guys.

I still give it a 9 for creativity. Most songs are written to view on what resonates with you or how you interpret the song. I can see why most listeners would give it a lower rating. I think most artists try to make their albums different than others and I definitely see the different creativity in this album. Most people get pissy because their favorite artists dont sound the same like they used to. But I appreciate growth and always trying to make different sounds. I definitely loved that I got something a bit different out of this album. The back stories definitely help enjoy the creativity. Although people can interpret these songs differently I know it can be hard when they do throw out random words that usually pieces the story together, which is what makes this album so different an creative. Because he's telling the story in his perspective. Not our perspective. Which is why I give such a high rating. Its different

I've been in absolute ADORE with Glass Animals since I found them while I was homeless on the streets of NYC! Zaba and 'Gooey' kept me sane during a time where I was the most miserable I've EVER been in my Life! I was dealing with and recovering from bruises, burns, and sickening stalkings by a psycho bf, and when I would walk down 8th Ave in Manhattan, the music of Glass Animals literally made me feel free and reminded me of who I truly am, and that I am NOT some homeless, veteran, junkie holding a sign! Their music truly and honestly saved my Life! When I listen to the songs from Zaba, it takes me back to those noisy New York streets and back to the loneliness AND freedom that I felt! Now, when I hear their new album, it reminds me of how Life can change. EVERYTHING can change, and Glass Animals can too. Idk if this has sounded corny or not, but the truth is that I feel like this new album is another change for the group in their new direction, and I too, am gratefully and happily swept along the wave! I know this is a long comment, but it's true! Their music saved my life and has helped me heal. I work and drive a nice car now. I'm but materialistic, but I'm not in that mire anymore; still listening to Glass Animals! I wish thanking them in person was possible, but for now I'm sending my acclaims. Great job, y'all! Your music has done more for others than you know! 😊

You’ve probably heard this a million times but Dave has straight up said re space ghost that the “playin too much of that GTA, playin to much of that dr. Dre” line was completely tongue in cheek. Since that kind of crap is what is generally pointed to as a “reason” kids act out and commit school shootings and his friend (the subject he’s addressing in space ghost) brought a gun to school and was caught right before carrying out a school shooting. There’s a lot going on in this album that isn’t clear on first listen, and I don’t think it’s fair to judge it that way, but I do get it. Been a while since your post on this album.. and I'm sure it's come to grow on you some way, or another.. but honestly; the whole 'full screen + notes on what you're listening to' thing that spotify does is pretty informative if something you hear doesn't really clue in what *you're hearing*.. Learned a lot about this album just by reading the quotes from the band members on which songs meant what, and why. A little research goes a long way! Cheers
@premiumheadpats41503 жыл бұрын
Bad?!?! That album is incredible!!! However, I think I love it for two reasons. First, the vibe is simply sick as hell. Second, I know the meanings behind the songs I love. Listen to it again. Then listen to it again. Then listen to it again. Then see the genius in it underneath what you see on the surface on your first listen. I know the lyrics seem weird and random on the surface and if that's all you have then you're bound to be kind of lost and bored. There is a more cohesive picture when you know what they mean though. A couple examples for proof that I'm not full of shit here: Tangerine is about someone you know who has just changed so much that you can't even recognize them as them anymore and you're not down with that at all. So you wish you could make them just change back to the person they were. "I wish I could show you more of yourself. I wish I could make you somebody else. But I left it way too late. Are you stuck in your own ways? I'm beggin, hands, knees, please. Tangerine, come on back to me." Heat Waves on the other hand is about how you can date someone and get so sucked into the relationship that you change into a person you don't really recognize anymore trying to fit what they want. And that is something that's.... completely unsustainable. It's about realizing that it's impossible for you to be yourself and make them happy. "Usually I put something on TV. So we never think about you and me." "You just need a better life than this. You need something I can never give." Maybe the themes are still a little bit shallow, but I think they are just so vastly relatable. I don't know how old you are. I don't know anything about you or your life, but I think a lot of people can relate to losing someone to change and growth that just comes between you over time and/or dating someone that you really don't have anything in common with, but trying to make it work anyway. Also, as someone who has... excessive personal experience with domestic abuse, Domestic Bliss hits on another level. Like What's Wrong by half alive or Karma by AJR. Shit hits me right where I live. I think what makes it especially meaningful for me is, for each of the Dreamland tracks I mentioned, someone immediately comes to mind that the song relates to. Whether I want it or not, I connect with what Dave is sayin here.

I agree with a few points, and I respectfully disagree on a lot, but in the end of the day I think music is subjective and we all just wanna come together and enjoy what we like. Doesn’t matter whether you like psychedelic pop, mumble rap or classic renaissance we all got that deep connection on something that truly transcends the worldly plane. Anyway! Really well done video! Edited fluidly but not in your face annoying! Hope you succeed in your life dreams!

aww thank you so much! I appreciate you for saying that. And I love what you said about people enjoying what they enjoy. That will always hold true no matter what dumb jokes I make haha!

The Space Ghost song is absolutely fantastic and I’ll die on this hill. It has an awesome beat, and the lyrics make total sense! His sibling or someone close to him brought a gun to school to kill people, or something close to that. Definite not just random 90s/00s references. I don’t really like most of the album though 🤷♂️ but that’s cool with me lol I appreciate when artists try different things, it’s part of the creative process. Generally though, I never care if I can understand the lyrics or not. It’s never too important to me, just the overall sound and how it makes me feel when I listen. Perhaps if I enjoyed rap more I would care about lyrics? 🤔 who knows

I think this might be a little to obvious for some, but i suggest checking out the lyrics on Genius.com They give a pretty good summary and there fun little references and meaning with the highlighted bits

i feel like this album is like a lot of glass animals' stuff in that to really understand you have to do some googling on the backstory of each song first, the lyrics by themselves aren't inherently revealing as to what they mean. i also think it's important to understand the context in which the album and all these songs were written in. in all fairness if you just listen to the album once and don't do much research abt it then it can seem a bit shit and a bit dry and empty but once you listen a few times and start doing some research then i think the album becomes a much more rich experience.

I think it's quite decent , i love the melodies that they did, i guess the saving grace is that i do not pay attention to the lyrics since English is my second language, i focus more on the soundscape and it's quite good.
@coffee91724 жыл бұрын
I really thought this album was underwhelming, especially since I was hyped for GA's next project ever since I went through their discography for the first time. The lyrics kills any thematic potential it could have had, not because they're off-topic, but because they're seemingly random, annoying, and at times, facepalm worthy.

It’s literally called waterfall coming from your mouth that’s a really good song and the sound is amazing although it felt a bit same as Tokyo drifting. Also liked tangerine because it felt so homey and nice and your love was good and hot sugar was okay rest I didn’t really like that much
