I have that orange amp. Really great sounding app. If it had a built-in reverb it would be a total gem, but where it's at now it's still a great amp. Dirty channel can go from classic rock OD all the way to Pantera with a twist of the gain and shape.

I think the orange sounds a lot better. I own an orange amp and love it.

I own a DSL 20 combo and I have to say I slightly prefer the Orange clean. However once we get into overdrive, the Marshall is where it's at. No pedals needed. It's probably the best dirty channel on any amp I've ever owned. This was a good, common sense, no nonsense, comparative review video. No pedals to hide the true tone. 2 completely different guitars, this concept works. Maybe try an A/B switch or edit to where there is continuous playing to really highlight the differences in tone between the two. Otherwise, I'm hooked. Keep videos like this coming. Thanks Shane and Doc!!!

That Orange sounds fantastic! Marshall not too shabby, either, but the TH30 sounded slightly fuller to me, nice vid!

Good comparison. 4dB is a BIG difference in vol! Both sounded good! Either would do in that genera!

We have a lot of amps in our studios and until you get to the Made in England range they are nothing to write home about. The Orange is a $$$ amp and it deserves its price tag. The sound is rich and articulate and has extremely fantastic clean as well as dirty channel. We recommend then Marshall Mini Jubilee as a nice comparison. Then you here the power of Marshall and Orange... and they both sound amazing but with their own character

I couldn't agree more. I used to have a TH30 with a 2x12 cab that I unfortunately had to sell after only about 2 months due to hard times. I'm about to hopefully pickup the combo shown in this video and I couldn't be more stoked. For the price and home recording there isn't any better. Being able to turn to 15 or 7 watts and still crank the tubes in a bedroom environment is crucial. I can't wait to get my hands on this again.

First of all: Orange TH30c cames with a Celetion G12h 70th anniversary and it makes a huge difference in comparison with the Celestion Seventy 80, which cames with the Marshall Dsl. I own a Marshall Dsl 20c, the exact amp used in this comparison, and I have just kept it because I changed the original speaker for a Celestion Vitage 30 16 ohms, Chinese - I like it and, yeah, Vintage 30s are really compressed, but it sounds cool with high gain and that is the reason why Vintage 30s have been used over the years in heavy metal. Thinking about the difference in price, I think that Organge's G12h really worths, it's a terrific speaker. Marshall Dsl can sound good and even great, but you really need to change the speaker and you have to think if it wouldn't be a better choice buying an amp with a better speaker in the same range of price. I personally chose the Marshall due to its features (I own other bigger amps) and because Oranges are really rare where I live, but back there I really would have given Orange a try if I could.

I used to be a Marshall junkie, but since about 2000 I feel that the Marshall's have a kind of muffled sound. I've been play through Orange amps since about 2018, I love the Terror and the Crush series, and I've stopped using Marshall all together for now.

The Orange amp sounded just OK. Seemed to lose the bottom end when cranked. I really can't see twice the price either. No reverb is not good. Nice playing by both you guys. I keep looking for an Orange amp I like. Guess I'll have to keep looking.

If you get a chance to read my Novel of a reply Mark, Check out the Newer Orange Crush Pro 60C. 2 Channels...Dirty and Clean. 4 Gain Stages in the Dirty Channel, Bass Mid and Treble EQ, not to mention they have created an new type of Analog Solid State. Here is a Quote from their Site on this Amp.....Orange have spent years creating a solid-state amp they could be proud of. The Orange team wanted to keep these amp simple. The dirty channel uses a circuit based on four stages of gain and a three band EQ which provides the player with a wide pallet of over-driven and distorted sounds. The clean channel is based on a two stage, two band EQ design, that gives the player a clean but warm sound which when cranked begins to break up. These amps have a transparent effects loop, allowing you to plug in your favorite pedals. It also contains a digital reverb that provides a natural sounding spring, hall or plate reverb. You may change your mind after playing one.....I'm Ridding myself of a Blackstar Stage 60 212 to get this incredible sounding amp. If you check it out, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!! I'm wondering if it sounds as good as I think it does or if it's my Ears finally going bad after 50 years of blasting Hard Rock through them!!! Take care Mark, Hope you love it as much as I do!!!

The orange amp sounded great, so did the Marshall, the Orange was just dialed in a bit flabby-ish, they needed to to just pull the low end back a bit or adjust tone control.

Love your playing as usual guys. This was quite a surprise, cause the dsl sounded a little dark and too bassy on the crunch with hb IMO, contrary to other vids, while the orange was always crisp and defined with rich harmonics. Wonder if it's the eq, cause I liked it much better with the SCs, or the speaker?

Lmfao! The orange was a bit louder because it has 33% more Watts! It's a 20w vs a 30w and the marshall still held up! That's why I bought the marshall dsl20, great mic'd up in stage and sounds killer! Did I mention lightweight with a small footprint for small stage venues? Great amp for all kinds of gigs (maybe not stadiums/ or "huge" stage shows)

So let me get this straight.. you're comparing an 30W/15W switchable Orange amp to an 20W/10w Marshall.. and as far as I see you tested them on the low power modes.. and the conclusion is that 15W is 4db louder than 10W.. The Orange having an Celestion G12H30 witch is a 100db speaker and the Marshall having a low cost 98db CelestionSeventy 80 speaker. Yes, it doesn't seem very fair. You should face the Orange to a DSL40 for that to be fair I suppose..

SMH the bigger amp is the Orange which is class A(gets an uses all the wattage so louder) and the smaller the Marshall a class A/B(less efficient that a class A by design) so this comparison makes zero sense. Should have been Th30 vs DSL100Hr considering their price points are more similar. When i recently bought my Marshall Dsl100HR it was between that and the TH30 and it was hard decision cause i genuinely LOVE both. I went with the Dsl cause i already had a micro terror and knew that one day ill get the TH30 also. If i had it to do over id still get the DSL but id agonize over the decision way less knowing now how extreamly versatile the Dsl is. Its truly great at everything it does but if your new to guitar and guitar amps dont buy it and expect it to just sound great. So many bad reviews are from guys who think they can dial in an amp but obviously cant. Then they blow a tube and think the amp is faulty. Smh, anyways the DSL truly is an amazing amp. I rolled the tubes for more my preferences but it wasnt nessesary. The TH30 is going to be better for a newer player or someone who isnt as good at dialing in tones. Its going to be easier to dial in tones with the TH30 but it has significantly less variety than the DSL(im refering to the 100hr not the 20, its silly to compare the th30 with a dsl20, just cause the wattage is more similiar doesnt mean they should be in the same class, in the real world we compare based on price then features.) Anyways theres so much more i could say about both of these amps but ive already gone on too long. Let me know if you have any questions about the DSL100HR anyone.

TH30 = approx 980 euros /// DSL20CR = approx 441 euros ... How to really compare ? Orange Waouhhh but... really, IMHO, I would choose Marshall regarding the value of money of its Amp.This amplifier is still half the price.
@markymac60793 жыл бұрын
Not a fair comparison at all. Orange is 30 Watts RMS and Marshall is 20 Watts RMS. Yes I know you need 10 times the wattage to double the volume but 30 Watts is still gonna have more headroom and sound bigger. Also, the Marshall should be near max on master. Totally different ball game then. Too much preamp gain on Marshall making it sound thin and fizzy.
@twisty5715 жыл бұрын
Ok so your saying a $1300-1400 amp is a hidden gem? And then you pit it against a $5-600 amp which has 2 EL84's & a crap speaker in it against an amp with 4 EL84's & a quality speaker in it. Makes a lot of sense to me. I would imagine the OR15 would have been a more comparable amp but maybe you could have pit the TH30 against the new Studio Marshalls like the JCM800 or maybe use the same cab at least?

Idk, I guess tone is subjective, I like the orange clean and the Marshall dirty.
@rwrws20005 жыл бұрын
Playing both Marshalls and Orange the Oranges are overpriced and tend to be one trick pony’s. It’s a delicious sounding trick. Something about the gain of any tube Marshall I’ve played. It just hits that magic spot. No pedals needed for overdrive or more gain they just go as hard as you could want right out the box. And the cleans have been great on them too but for cleans now I use my Vox Night Train. But even the Vox has some pretty heavy gain especially on the thick channel.
@DoktrDub Жыл бұрын
Oranges sound great all round, nice and creamy thick gain and cleans, they aren’t exactly overpriced or one trick ponies, they are versatile amps just like any amp made to produce a wide range of sounds, it’s all about personal taste, Marshall have some more expensive models, every amp is different, I have a Marshall DSL5 though with the stock ten 30 speaker, it sounds great and articulate on distortion with the classic Marshall tone, nice cleans too, just a bit less pleasing to my ears than the cleans that orange amps tend to produce.

I’m not sure why these were compared. The orange amp is 1000+ dollars and 10 Watts more than the Marshall. The Marshall is 600 dollars. I would hope that an amp that cost 1000 dollars would sound better than an amp that is way cheaper and less wattage.
@VintageRadius5 жыл бұрын
jamus powers comparing amps from different price points is helpful IMO. The real issue is that they did the whole video on the half power modes(which I do appreciate seeing as not enough videos show the power reduction but not for the entire comparison). Each amp could be approaching power reduction differently. Half power is usually not the same tone but quieter, the character and headroom change, etc. Including full power at the end would have provided a lot more helpful information. Love Shane’s videos but you know Johan Sageborn would have done this right.
