Strange amps to compare, an Orange Rocker 15 or 32 would be a better comparison. The Tremlord is a clean 50s style amp.
@hailmaryrecordings82553 жыл бұрын
It is? Like a Fender tone? I’ve never played through an Orange actually, but I’m shopping P.S. I had this Marshall and my cousin stole it & sold it for drugs. That was my home-amp & I must replace it with … something. I was thinking a Vox.
@KozmykJ3 жыл бұрын
One thing I'm wondering about. There's a switch in the back that selects between 4 valves and 2 valves ... what if ?? It's not like Orange to let a 'wimp' go out the door even if it's clean departure from their signature sound.
@intheblues3 жыл бұрын
Clean channel vs Clean channel. It's pretty simple. The fact they are similar sizes physically and have 12" speakers means they are pretty similar.
@sethl15883 жыл бұрын
@@intheblues That amp is not meant to get dirty. The Marshall is, even the clean channel. The Orange is missing a gain stage or 2. They're just not comparable amps.
@Newnodrogbob3 жыл бұрын
@@sethl1588 We can quibble about whether truly clean amps can get good dirt from pedals, and whatnot, but it's a moot point. You're not wrong, but I'd be more worried about it if this were a general gear review channel. But the channel is "in the blues" and his gear focus is on live blues rigs. I mean, it may not be a big newsflash to those in the know about Orange's amp range, but it's not wrong to say that this isn't the best amp for a live blues rig...at least not in a standard configuration. I don't think modern folk fingerstyle guitarists are going to suddenly flock to Marshall DSL amps because In the Blues said they were better, ya know? My only gripe is that he keeps talking about the clean channel on both amps, and I always feel like "clean channel" should be in quotes for Marshall amps😂...and a lot of Oranges, really. But clearly not this one....

I replaced my 70/80 in my Monoprice 15 after playing it for a year, with a Celestion G12H 30Watt 70th Anniversary. I didnt believe a different speaker would be that drastic of a difference. So that is something else I was wrong about. Setting the EQ and playing it now is like singing with harmony . Amazing how hooked into that 70/80 I was. But the switch was over the top dramatic.

Although the difference in power (wattage) doesn't make a big difference, they could've used a speaker that's a lot more sensitive. It's even possible to make a 15W amp as loud as a 30W amp that way.
@p_mouse8676 Жыл бұрын
@@JosephX74 that's not correct, the increase in loudness can be calculated with 10*log(dP). We're dP is the difference in power. So doubling the power will give a 3dB increase. 150W will give 10*log(150/15)=10dB increase compared to a 15W amplifier.

I've never heard of the tremlord. I have used a few Orange amps, and while they tend to be an overall darker sound, and tend to a bit of early breakup, they can generally put out a fairly chimey top end (mostly) clean sound as well. I'd be curious to see you try one of the Origin series, or a rockerverb, and see if you have the same experience
@jamiebriggs82773 жыл бұрын
I'd also be really curious to see maybe a guest spot...bring someone on who's an Orange user, and contrast how they use the amp, and what kind of sound they go for with it. Are you sure that the Orange wasn't switched to low power mode, there are 30, 15, 2 and 1 watt output modes. 15 watt mode is selected by switching off two output valves, 2 and 1 watt are selected by using the bedroom/headroom switch.
