Is the PORSCHE 996 GT3 worth *BUYING*?

In this video, I go and check out a Porsche 996 GT3, this particular car is a 2004 Gen 2 model which will be soon up for sale at Prestige Cars Kent.
What I'm trying to figure out today is mainly whether it's worth considering having a 996 GT3 from a buyers perspective, and also...
Are 996's now starting to take a turn from the ugliest 911, to now one in which we can tolerate?

I personally think the 996 is one of the best looking cars ever the 997s and newer look the same with a few tweeks and who can forget the 996 in Fast5 that car in my eye is iconic even though it wasn't on screen long

One of the best cars I’ve driven was a 996.2 GT3 clubsport with a lightweight flywheel and manthey exhaust. One of the best “race cars for the road” sort of car. It was incredibly raw and was also surprisingly as quick as my 997.2 GT3 at the time. Way better than these new things, albeit a 991 GT3 an exceptional machine and will run rings around a 996/997 gt3, but nothing really does beat the feeling of an older 911. Snug and small, with pure engine noise and feel. Not muffled and fake like the new ones

12c!? It’s automatic with a re worked Nissan engine that couldn’t win races! And the McLaren has the build quality of an Afghans extension! Turbo charging is for car company’s that can’t make engines and McLaren can’t make engines.

Mine was MINT! but it took over a year to sell. Truly there will never be another Porsche with , race winning engine, manual, hydraulic steering, no traction control, no PSM and it is a perfect size for British roads.

Club Sport version is the rarer model and the one to have the model tested is a comfort, but both are fantastic cars. Good review👍 splitter is low and you will catch it.

996 GT3 is the best and last neo-vintage Porsche 911 with a real analogue feel - I took my lhd car V295 HGS on a piece with Evo Car magazine in Italy for the Targa Florio in Oct 2000 - 11 page write up in magazine in that month.

I own a 996 GT3 and have driven 997.1, 997.2 991.1 RS and GT4. 996 GT3 is the best as a weekend car, closest to a race car experience. 997 GT3 will be better as a daily, more comfy and you got PSM just in case. GT4 is just a much more modern car to live with, but you don’t get the mezger experience and 8000+ redline (996.2 and 997). Anyway all great cars you won’t go wrong with them!

Yup and lots of mods available on the market to make the 6GT3 a dedicated track car if you wish too. Mine has full roll cage, LWFW, Ohlins R&T, RSS links and mounts, 4.0 final drive, so it really gives the race car experience. But I wouldn’t wanna drive it daily to work lol..

The only reason to buy a GT4 over one of these would be if you can pick one up with an extended warranty. Also a bottom of the market GT4 probably means it needs a big service (£1000+), and/or brakes and tyres. You're looking at £3K for brakes and £1200+ for tyres, so really there's no such thing as 'bottom of the market' GT4. You just get the big bills later. Parts for the 996 are miles cheaper in comparison.

Sid I don’t get it mate. U are very good at what u do u give top top reviews but for some reason your channel doesn’t seem to be growing. I think u need to try and find your own style instead off the typical Chris Harris or Jeramy clarkson approach. I can come across abit dated. I know it’s quite loud inside a 911 cabin, but the sound has gone back to being bad again. When was this filmed? His last video (the Cupra) was normal. He sounds muted again in this. Just buy a lapel mic.

First of all: it’s really the last analogue 911! The looks are fantastic, the headlights are becoming more beautiful, every time you look at it! All other 911’s have round headlights 🥱, nothing special about that! 😄 It’s a very reliable car. It’s no moneypit like a F355, it just does what is needs to do, whenever you ask it to do! And don’t forget it’s the improved 996 GT3! Easy car to work on also! Saves a lot of time!

Nice vid Sid with good commentary mate. Keep it up bud! Stick some slicks on a road going GT3 996 however and it transforms itself into a race car very close to not a Cayman GT4 but the track only GT4 clubsport. 996 GT3 MK1: The engine is very similar in design to the flat six found in the 962 prototype however, where that powerplant used separate cylinder heads for each cylinder, the M96/72 uses a single head per bank. The four-valve head’s design is derived from the water-cooled 959, although extensive work was needed to mate it to the 911 GT3’s cylinder size. 981:

I remember when these were £35k. Even at £60k they are a good buy. I know a couple of guys who have gone from a Gt4 to a 996 GT3 mk2. A few quid in the bank as well as better steering and a motorsport engine. Great cars.

Great review but being a dry sump has nothing to do with IMS. GT3s got Mezger engine and they don't suffer from the IMS issues. The regular 996 engine (M96) is also "dry sump" by the way, though the sump is not separate like a race engine, but within the block.

@RichJW I definitely do pal I buy and sell performance cars and nobody will give 60k for that car. Infact your struggle to sell it at 30k. Big engined cars are hard to sell and m6 are looking tired as hell.

@RichJW I sold my 64 reg M5. Individual spec 3 month ago and struggled to get £16k. I sold c63s last month on a 16 plate for 29k. All better or equal to a M6. 2 c63s or 1 bright green m6? No comparison it's just not realistic. M6 are cheap now 24k. Nobody posting 35k for a colour

@RichJW just the looks. I think the round light Porsche look so much better. I even went to look at a 16 reg gt3 rs but it was 180k and a) I couldnt justify 180k in any car and b) not when they are less than that brand new. Greedy dealers and speculators have just ruined the GT3 brand for the people who want one to actually use. Even this old gt3 is massive money for what it is. No doubt it will drive great but the price and looks just nail it
