Tech devices get outdated quickly. I bought the 3090 during the shortage period so it was overpriced, way over the msrp. 4090 is bigger, heavier, and pricier. Nvidia has become the scalper themselves. If they do it every year, they can massively increase their revenue and boost economic growth because people will buy them anyway. It’s like nvidia unleashed.

Get a 90 series if you're working with AI models. Even the 3090 or 3090 Ti is more useful than a 4080 for AI.

@@blackbirdpctech that is the point. For example, many models, such as Llama-2 70-b, for inference, I can’t fit in one RTX 4090, then it needs two RTX 4090 to fit the quantized model. That option is very competitive compared to the slight better option of spending $8000 to buy a single RTX 6000 ada GPU. Because fitting into a single GPU is always a better option but the cost is really high.

@@blackbirdpctech Running dual RTX 4090s requires a robust cooling solution, like water cooling, due to limited space for airflow between the cards which can cause high heat output. Blower-style air cooling is an alternative but tends to be louder. Additionally, a workstation-grade motherboard is necessary for optimal performance and stability. Even with these considerations and potential additional costs for cooling and a suitable motherboard, the total expense remains lower than opting for a single RTX 6000 Ada

I'm upgrading from a 1080 Ti and decided on the 4080 Super. I can't justify the extra 4090 cost for 1440p-high refresh rate gaming. My monitor is 165 hz, and looks like 4080 Super won't completely cover that rate for 1% low in all games (with max settings). So, maybe this can be a "bridge" card if a 5000 series card beats/matches 4090 performance at a much lower cost. Wishful thinking haha.

The challenge for pricing will be the strength of the competition that Nvidia faces … I don’t think AMD or Intel will be competitive at the higher end for this coming generation so that doesn’t bode well for pricing. I really wanted the 4090 and tried hard to justify the price, but in the end, it just didn’t make sense-especially with the 5090 release around the corner. The market is tough, and prices probably won’t drop even when the 5000 series arrives. Still, it feels much better to invest in a brand-new graphics card with a full warranty rather than spend that kind of money on a second-hand one in box for nearly 2 grand that comes with 0 warranty.

This is the first vid I've seen of your's and you earned my sub off the back of this one video (a rarity these days)! Not gonna sugar coat it either, 1.73K subs seems hard to believe, I'm not sure how long you've had you're channel live (ngl, I can't be arsed to check as I'm busy tackling tweaks to my system)... regardless though, and yes, I have only seen 1 video, but if your others are anything close to similar in quality and value provided in the data presented, mate I'd be very surprised if you haven't seen +50K subs added (bare minimum) by this time next year... in fact, if you're going to continue dropping similar content as we head towards the NVidia's Blackwell release, if you stay on track and continue underpromising & overdelivering, the +subs number mentioned should easily be able to be multiplied by 3 at the lower end and, well, the sky is the limit to the upper-end mate!! I’m building my first PC. I have an Intel 14900-k installed, a Corsair CPU liquid cooler, 2 32g ram sticks, and a 1650W power supply. I still don’t know which GPU to get though. Everyone I’ve talked to says get the 4080, I would like to get a 4090, but they’re so darn expensive, and I hear that the 5090 might be released in like spring or summer next year. I want to do 4k gaming at 120fps and I want to do 4k, high quality animations on Blender. I don’t know whether to get a 4080 Super, get a 4090, or just hold out until the 5090 comes along sometime next year maybe.

Congrats on building your first PC! You've selected some great components so far. Wrt the GPU choice, for 4K gaming at 120 FPS, such as on a TV, the 4080 Super will be fine. My guess as to a release date for the 5090 is after CES in January 2025 ... likely at the end of January with an announcement at CES. The problem is it will likely be really tough to get your hands on one when it launches. That said, the prices of the 4000 series will likely drop. If you want to get up and running now I would recommend a 4080 Super ... you can see if it meets your needs and if you decide to get a 5090 next year then you can always sell the 4080.

@blackbirdpctech
@blackbirdpctech 16 күн бұрын
That's a tough question to answer because there are a lot of unknowns. My guess is that the 5090 will be announced at CES early next year, since Jensen is giving the keynote. I would also guess that the price will be set at $1,999 US. So if you can get one after they launch, you will be paying a very large premium. If it's taken this long for the 4090 prices to come down then I would assume that a 5090 is likely going to be very expensive in the Philippines when it launches. With that in mind I would probably suggest getting a 4090 now. Reports suggest that they've stopped producing them so there is a possibility that prices will increase before the 5090 is announced.

Great video! Well, AMD is going to add Tensor Cores - hopefully that will put pressure on Nvidia as each AMD model will compete with the step-up model so Nvidia will need to drop prices by 20% and that will put pressure on their high-end models which will be stranded with stratospheric prices. Intel is also going to come after the AI and video game industry too as there's a trillion on offer and a chance to increase their valuation by 5x so any investment is worth it. Also, for those who only care about 60fps or higher with frame-gen, the PS5 Pro will be an interesting piece of hardware. It's not a 4080 but it should run any game at 60fps with high/ultra settings. But it's the super-sampling we want to see. If Intel can create XeSS without tensor cores, then Sony with their 25+ years of upscaling pedigree and with Tensor Cores should be able to produce vastly superior results to FSR and XeSS and should match Nvidia. I suspect Sony wants to rule AI upscaling in the future for streaming content for their TVs, PS5 streaming etc.

@@blackbirdpctech yeah, Intel is really missing the boat with this. Their valuation is less than 10% of Nvidia's and almost half of AMD's. They should have had 4060, 4070, 4070Ti competitor cards out already even if they sell them at a loss. You can't become Amazon and expect a profit on day one. These cards need to be given away below cost so they appear in PCs and build market share which then opens the path to technological advancements. I was thinking of 3Dfx and what they must think seeing Nvidia's meteoric rise and 2 trillion valuation. They must be thinking "f*ck we got beaten by 2d" cause they had a much better 3d card albeit more expensive.

@blackbirdpctech
@blackbirdpctech 3 ай бұрын
Here is the problem with waiting … regardless of what rumors are out there, we simply don’t know when the cards will be released, what the performance will be and how much they will cost. It’s possible that Nvidia will offer an increase in performance with a corresponding linear increase in price, so if the fps/$ stays similar to a 4090 then it’s unlikely a 4090 will drop much in price … it might simply remain part of their product stack alongside 50 series cards. That said, I think it comes down to your needs and value. If you can game for 6 months at a higher fps and game settings, and you can afford it, then why not pull the trigger now and sell your current gpu while it still has some value? You can always sell your new card after the 50 series cards become more widely available … IF you feel the need to.

A purely subjective question, is a Porsche worth it? A Ferrari? Diminishing returns in every market means that you will inevitably have to overpay for the bleeding edge. If you can afford it then go for it and enjoy it. EDIT: At lower resolutions the CPU has more of a chance to be the bottleneck - it's only at 4k (maybe 1440p+) that the full power of a 4090 is shown over the 4080s.
@blackbirdpctech
@blackbirdpctech Ай бұрын
It's not purely subjective because there is a clear objective. Unlike brand discussions that are somewhat subjective and relate to satisfying a need for significance, a gaming GPU is used to generate a high quality gaming experience that can be measured. You can then use that metric, for gaming it would be FPS, and estimate value by dividing it by cost. Your analogy for cars is not equivalent because the primary motivation behind getting a Ferrari is not performance, it's status, something that is tough to measure. There is no question that people will buy a 4090 to satisfy their significance need, but I would argue that most people consider buying one for gaming performance. Take women's handbags for example ... they are used to carry things however a bag from Gucci doesn't perform this objective better than a bag from Target, so in this case the question of is it worth it would be subjective. When buying a gaming GPU the objective is gaming performance, so it's relatively easy to measure and show that a 4090 does perform better than a 4080 ... it's not at all subjective. The cost of each card is also not subjective so measuring value (performance/cost) is a reasonable way to answer the question. Also, there are a lot of scenarios where you can be GPU bound at lower resolutions, such as with high frequency monitors and/or high game settings, so you can leverage the power of a 4090 at resolutions other than just 4K.

I don’t think anyone doubts the 4090’s prowess in gaming, but I think it’s a reasonable question to ask if this increase in performance is worth it. Nvidia is charging a high premium for extra frames because the 4090 has no direct competitor … to be perfectly honest I’m surprised they didn’t charge more. I think they will “fix” that mistake by charging much more for the 5090 … doesn’t look like AMD or Intel will be able to compete for a few generations.

@blackbirdpctech yeah I agree it's definitely a premium for every frame. It's definitely a reasonable question. Which is why we need serious competitors. It does cost allot to get not just fps, but getting the fps with a beautiful resolution. Cause the fps battle is one thing, but the fidelity of the game at those frames is another.

Got the RTX 4080 Super for only 670 bucks brand new and haven't bothered upgrading any further. The extra premium and power consumption isn't worth it for the average Joe with a limited budget and power bill in mind. DLSS also reduces power consumption without much visual loss. 1440p is enough if you're gaming on a regular computer monitor at 27" with 120hz or higher.

But it's already obsolete, I barely get playable FPS in VR with MSFS and racing games, and with MSFS 2024, requireing a 4080 for 30fps at 4k (VR resolution) and 30fps is nowhere near playable on VR I can either buy a RTX 5090 if its any sort of affordable because with the significant handicaps given to the RTX 5080 its basically worthless or I can buy a RTX 4080super for discountsd price when the 5080 is released. 4080supers are around £950 right now but if they drop below £700 then It might be a decent upgrade for the money.

You need Reflex if you use Frame Generation which was introduced with DLSS 3. Without Reflex you cant even turn Frame Generation on. If you only use Upscaling without Frame Generation you dont "need" it per se. You should state that DLSS Upscaling and Frame Generation are two different things. The naming scheme of Nvidia got borked there. So, DLSS Upscaling does not produce additional frames as stated in your video, only Frame Generation does, and this then comes with a latency increase - and a VRAM increase, because the GPU has to have 2 Full size Frames in Memory and a low res AI generated one.

Appreciate your comment and you are correct, I should have pointed out that frame generation is a selectable option with DLSS ... this is very noticeable in games like Cyberpunk where it is selected by default with RT game settings.
