Just a helpful FYI for anyone who's been in the situation: You can use dried Marjoram as a closer substitute to Mexican Oregano than normal, Italian Oregano.

as a old school runescaper myself, i've been hoping to see you make a video on this cookbook! my favorite thing about themed cookbooks are all of the references to the source material. since im not personally super big fan of the source material of a lot of previous books you've reviewed, it was really nice seeing all of the references in this video that i could understand and appreciate =] for example, the "Slop of Compromise" you made is a quest item from Recipe for Disaster, which is the quest the Culinaromancer is the antagonist of. It's just slop made of two goblin's favorite foods, hence the name

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I really admire how they incorporated the lore in this book through the references and the visuals. Hope all cookbooks are like that

Cute intro! That challenge page was super-cute, I hope it appears in another book one day. It doesn't even have to be a fandom cookbook (I don't actually know what these sorts of cookbooks are called), just a book perhaps targeted to children and teenagers, I know several kids that are not that interested in cooking that would eat that concept up figurately. The idea that official real-life products for a game also offers exclusive items in-game is a very interesting concept. I managed to shake off my Fear of Missing Out years ago, so I see it mostly as a cute extra reward, especially if the game in question is fairly chill, which I assume Runescape to be considering its age. I know Final Fantasy XIV often puts codes for in-game cosmetics or pets in their merchandice, though lately it has been somewhat controversial because they offer one after-sought emote for one character, rather than account-wide, that you get alongside a very expensive but also not that pretty statue. But I do think a costume for your character for buying the book is very cute, so again, I hope they try that in other books, as well! (Perhaps they can make the costume available to buy in the cash-shop at a much later date, I don't know, but it is a cute surprise! I love that you switched a bit with the chicken to see the difference! I joke in real life that if I ever were to become a KZbinr, it would only be to make same dish but varyingly different to see/taste the differences, like a soup that wants 2 nay leaves, I would make like five - one with none, second with one, third with two, fourth with four and five with ten or something, just so I could see what the difference makes. XD

So. On the terrible pie, I think I can shed some light on the potato. What you basically made was a northern version of a Cajun Étouffée, something I am intimately knowledgeable on being Cajun myself. Normally, Étouffée is served over rice. Other common ways of serving are in fried rolls called pistolettes, or stuffed into a pie crust for a full pie as seen in the recipe book, or hand pie crusts. However, it's becoming quite popular down here to load it all up on a baked potato. It could be that the author was meaning to have the cooks include the potato IN the pie, perhaps diced. Or maybe they had some knowledge of local fair here and figured you'd have enough to eat left over.
