Price point compare to what you get with such a great portability does matter and this could be one of the reason why it exists. I just bought it months ago even though I've heard about ZV-1 II. It serves all of my needs such as taking photo with friends and family, doing some shots while traveling. I rarely use it for videos so there is no issues about battery or heating.

I have the cam too and love it! Two options to add in firmware to make it a great for street photography: 1. shutter speed = minimum shutter speed 2. assign to red movie button: toggle through a set of preselected modes (such as P and S) Battery life is totally fine for me for photo. You forget one "hidden" feature because everyone assume ZV-1 is mostly for video. ZV-1 inherits leaf shutter from RX100 so it has a flash sync speed up to 1/2000. It doesn't seem to work well with Godox trigger though, but it works flawlessly with on camera flash

The RX100 VII is a better camera than the ZV1 in most ways. The only reason I keep my ZV1 is product showcase and the wide angle 1.8 aperture. But that represents less than 5% of recording. 95% of the time, the RX100 VII is first choice. I have a glue-on filter ring on both cameras for wider angle, and variable ND. The EVF alone is good enough reason to get the RX 100 VII. A much better choice, that also has product showcase, and can use lenses wider and faster, is the ZV-E10. The ZV-E10 plus an RX100 VII is an almost perfect combination that covers both small size and vlogging goodness. The ZV1 doesn't really factor into this. I keep mine because I already bought it (before the ZV-E10 was released) but if I could go back in time I would not have bought it, and simply waited for the ZV-E10 instead. Owning all three cameras gives me the ability to compare them long term. ZV1 is in last place as far as I am concerned.

Very much enjoying all your ZV-1 coverage Jack. There aren't that many photo oriented videos on it, your takes convinced me to get it for both purposes. Smallrig L bracket and Gizmon WA as well - thanks. 2024 BTW: can't find anything else. Canon M50 or M6 with a EF-M 22mm came close but have the 30 minute video limit. ZV-1F is (decent) CDAF, great touchscreen and wide angle with filter ring but no zoom nor RAW. ZV-1 II 18-50mm without OIS is no-go for my use. ZV-E10 and lenses are at least 2x price and 4x size to get 1.4 or 1.8 at wide angle. Plus rolling shutter. DJI pocket 3 is getting more out of the 1" sensor but no zoom either and tiny LCD for photos. Maybe there are some almost real good phone rigs and lens attachments, haven't really looked for that.

Hey there, I have bought this camera in 2020 already used, and 2,5 years later I am still loving it! :) However I have two questions, maybe you can help me: which mode do you use when recording b-roll with it? Especially when walking. It tends to loose the focus and blur a bit when I walk with it, and also because of the shaking it is not so optimal, so I am thinking about getting a gimbal to it, do you have any suggestions for a super simple gimbal without much setting up and balancing out? I am way too lazy for that, I have purchased a Zhiyun Crane M2 but I couldn`t deal with and had to send it back, I need something way simpler than that, like a phone gimbal is :D Also, do you wanna link me the exact battery kit you are using, so I can earn you some commission? :D Need to purchase some anyway :)

Great video Jack, looking back on this. I have a dilemma. I am not a professional photographer but I am a definite point and shoot guy. I have the ZV-1 (I upgraded from an earlier superzoom Sony) and my phone, a OnePlus Nord 2T currently. Now that phones like the Pixel 7 or the iPhone 14 Pro are very close to cameras, I was thinking if I shouls sell the ZV-1 and just use a phone - the present one or a new one. When I go out, whether that is street or a trip, I tend not to wanna take out the ZV-1 from my bag, I am just happy with whatever I shoot with the camera. Most importantly, video stabilization is better and everything is just really point and shoot on the phones. But when I shoot some photos on the Sony, they just look a wee bit smoother so I'd probably regret selling the camera. What do you think? Can a phone totally replace a ZV-1-like camera for a freak like me :D ?
@JackWoodhams2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Great question. Personally I don't think phone cameras are anywhere near the zv1 yet. The 1 inch sensor is definitely an improvement over any phone I think. Plus phones have so much software driven alterations (HDR, sharpness etc) I just find the zv1 images more appealing visually. Same for video, there's a huge difference between my s22 plus and the zv1. The zv1 looks less artificial.

ZV-1 has an advantage from a phone if you want to get serious at photography, it can use flash at sync speed up to 1/2000, not even high end interchangeable lens camera has that feature except Medium Format which costs more than an arm and a leg. Phone almost can't use flash at all because they use electronic shutter. Hello, a question about the camera, it is worthy to take pictures of toodlers and children that move a lot? Thank you so much for the review
@JackWoodhams Жыл бұрын
For anything indoor I would say no, because the lens is only a max f1.8 and that's a wide 24mm. If you wanted more of a 35mm or 50mm you're going to be bumping the ISO a lot as the aperture will be around 2-2.8. in this instance if recommend something like the Zv-E10 and a fast lens like the 28mm f2 or even the 20mm 1.8.

first time I tried to take media out of the card I was shocked - I coudln't find the movie clips... then I realized Sony does it differently than Canon (my main) or my phone, in that it stores photos and movies separately in a completely different folder roots. Doesn't change much other than having to click a few times extra, but when I came back from my trip and thought I never had my video files, I think I lost a few heartbeats lol

Hello. Good explanation in your whole video well done. Regarding the answer that everyone has one in their pocket like a phone without a viewfinder. My answer is this. All the new and good phones have very high quality, zoom, etc. But if you buy a camera then it has a certain purpose. Would you agree with me that many will not buy it because of the lack of a viewfinder? me for example and many other people.

I’m between the ZV-1 and ZV E-10. I already have an a6000 + Kit Lens, 35mm and 50mm. I need a 2nd Camera for my small business wich I can set up quick for social Media. Most important for me is the connection for a mic and that I can flip the screen to see myself.

20 - 30 minutes of battery on video recording sounds pretty weak to me. Not hiking worthy to lug around extra batteries. Doing research on what simple point-and-shoot camera to get that can shoot in 4k but the battery lasts about as long as a flagship smart phone.

no, and here's why: Bad stabilization no option to record in log (it means u stuck with bad colors and too drak effect.. very bad battery life... the 4k is only 30fps, nowadays every iPhone can shoot in 4k 60 and iPhone video looks better because the camera don't have enough power in the chip to process better video quality... the screen is too dark when u shoot in bright areas u can't even see the screen.... the zoom is nothing in it... I have old DSC-HX60 from 7 year ago and that shoots same fake 1080p video as this new in 1080p mode... and that have 30x optical zoom and 10x digital not only 3x... it don't have flash and video quality in dark are very bad... iPhone 15 pro pro res log video looks similar to 1400USD camera ( and that don't include the lens only the body of the camera)
@JackWoodhams5 ай бұрын
Actually the iPhone doesn't look like a $1400 camera. It's only good for wide angle and landscape videos. Anything close and you can tell it lacks the depth of field of a camera and full frame sensor. The things you're saying are bad with the zv1 aren't even that much of a problem. And the price between the zv1 and the iPhone is kinda big.

"more than enough" listen man, rhere is absolutely no reason for them to stick to 24 and 70 as the limit. an 85 would have been far better as the top end, and 18mm is a perfect bottom range.
@JackWoodhams2 ай бұрын
@@acidtears it's called understanding consumer habits. Sony knows a 24-70 is a typical all round lens. There's only about 2 lenses on the planet that are 18-85 so it's harder to sell. Even if it would be better. Plus technically it is harder to make the lens would probably need to be bigger, heavier, more expensive.
