This basically seem like a NYC cookbook for nerds, which isn't a bad thing. I'm surprised there hasn't been an X-Men cookbook yet. With characters from all sorts of heritages it would be easy to come up with many recipes.

Makes me wonder if at some point this was conceptualized as a new york cookbook, got shelved and tossed around until it landed at someone with Prongs in Marvel and they said 'just make it spider-man' Which I'm partiality fine with cause it fits the character as he does talk a lot about his favorites street foods when talking to other heroes and I'm also glad the recipies seem more mature. Because if this were a kids book I'd be super simple and sweet like..."red and blue slushy' or something.
@prcervi4 ай бұрын
to me it feels more like marvel wanted another thing to sell to make investors happy, and while the comics and cartoons have a few iconic dishes it's faster to scrape up some popular new york cuisine to pad the book out into something you can sell for more cash without looking stingy
@superveryman4 ай бұрын
Funny you mentioned not associating Jamaican beef patties with Spider-Man because that's what's Miles is eating in "Spider-Man: into the Spiderverse" that's probably why the recipe is in the book.

Given the choice between them using a regional theme and then stretching to get the back stories or having one of those books that styles food to look like the characters, I’d pick the former. I do wonder if the pho-Juggernaut connection is supposed to be because his origin is supposed to take place in a (now nebulous) Asian country (it was Korea at first, but has changed as time rolled up behind the characters).

A funny thing about this channel is that the entire concept of a cookbook based off an intellectual property is kinda weird to start, but everyone can see when a Spiderman cookbook crosses a line into being a New York cookbook. They chose not to make a venom themed pasta with squid ink!

Great review! I love everything you did, from getting into character to discussing the book to actually making some food. I looked at some recipes in a preview and thought they were too hard for my complete lack of skill, so it was going to be a "no" on the book. But you made it look so easy, I'll reconsider the book and my culinary aspirations :) PS: while "J.J" makes a great point that it's silly to waste time making food there can be so cheaply bought (ie the patties), the reward for the effort is tasty food with less additives and knowing that you're in control of what you eat and your health.
