I've just purchased the Springfield 1911 Loaded in 9mm. Took it to the range today. The first magazine ran fine, but then I had two jams per magazine, and they were loaded to only half capacity. I've heard bad things about SA customer service, so I;m taking it to a good gunsmith this Mon. What happened after you got it back from the gunsmith? Do you shoot it much after that? I know that thse are on the lower end of 1911s, but there is no excuse for such lazy work. If Glock can make a great gun out of a piece of plastic, SA can certainly put some god damned effort into their flagship model. I was told they have a break-in period and that I need to use better ammo, but I'm not entirely buying that story.

I, to this day, still am frustrated by this experience. I don't like to say never but I can't see me ever buying a Springfield again. The gunsmith did fix it. He said it was bad quality control. He also said the last 3 years he's seeing problems out of the box quite a bit with a lot of brands. To me it's inexcusable. I sold it as soon as I got it back from the gunsmith. I can't keep something that is unreliable. I appreciate the comment and feel your frustration.

I believe what you had was Galling of the frame and slide, maybe the fit was too tight and stainless steel tends to have galling issues when it gets hot ?! I own the Blued version and only issue I had was the extractor would not eject occasionally, I properly tensioned it and no more issues . I had Harrison Design put a set of his sights on it and I’m very happy with it so far.

I think so too. The 9mm started running pretty nice after 600 rounds. But, by then I was too frustrated with it. Also, felt weird. I think it was the lack of power coming from a big 1911. The 45 after a complete lockup I moved it along after the gunsmith fixed it. I was out of patience. I did pick up a Rock Island Elite 1911 in 10mm. Runs flawlessly. Doesn't shoot as nice as the Springfield. But, it does run every time. Good hearing from you. Hope you will subscribe if you haven't already and I look forward to future comments on other videos. I love 1911's. They are typically so accurate and reliable. Unfortunately this was not an ammo issue. I already have it at the gunsmith. He said it was a manufacturing issue. He is going to fix it. Oof there was something very wrong for that pistol to jam like it did. What kind of ammo were you shooting? I've got a Garrison that I've put 1,000+ rounds through and it has yet to have a single issue. All I do is clean an oil the gun after the range. I have seen online some insane terrible quality guns online. As if a fa tory machine broke or the owners tried to customize them or take them apart for the first time an messes up, and then sells them. I feel like I could never trust a tool that I'd be using to protect myself & my family if I bought it used...

SOOOOO disappointed. I shoot higher end 1911s (Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, and a Colt that has had major customization on it). They are truly flawless pistols. I've been thinking about a beater gun, and was seriously considering a Springfield cause they look really good. After your two experiences, they are off my list. So thanks for taking one (TWO!) for the team. 😉 I'm really thinking a Tisas might be the way to go. Looks really are important...and accuracy is a key element of any pistol for me. But 100% RELIABILITY is paramount. Nothing else matters to me if a gun doesn't go bang every time you pull the trigger. Out of curiosity, can you be more specific on what problems your 'smith uncovered and fixed? And please try a Tisas next! 🤣

Glad I could save you some cash. LOL. I will have an Ed Brown or Wilson Combat one day. It's on my bucket list. I have shot a few Tisas and haven't had any issues and shoots decent. I agree with you 100%. If not 100% reliable I won't own it. Accuracy is also a must. He told me on both of them quality control were the issues. He was able to fix them but once I have issues like this the bad taste is still in my mouth and they just have to go. I have another one for you to put on your list. I have a Rock Island in 10mm and it's the best 1911 I've ever had. I'm not in fantasy land and making any comparisons to EB or WC. But, for a sub $1000 gun it is fantastic. Stainless steal 1911s do have the rare occasion of experiencing galling between the slide and frame rails. When that happens its game over! It happens with tightly fitted stainless 1911s. Rugers and some of the other not so tightly fitted lower quality stainless 1911s dont need any special grease on the slide however some Colts, Kimbers, Springfield Armory, and ESPECIALLY DAN WESSONS need to have there slides greased with special gun grease. I said grease not oil however Ive had good luck with FP-10 oil on tight guns. Dont say I didnt warn you!

An all metal gun will seem unusual with a minimum powered cartridge such as 9mm. A plastic gun better matches the recoil impulse of the small cartridge. It is inexcusable for a product that costs that much, even if it is on the low end of the price range, to not function well right out of the box. A 1911 is supposed to be a finely crafted machine, if you have to open up the tolerances to match the looseness of the plastic guns then that defeats the purpose. Your first few jams seemed to be an indication of improper extractor tension which would be easy for you to adjust yourself but you shouldn't have to. FWIW, I've seen some of the pastic guns completely seize up like yours did so it isn't peculiar to a 1911.

In all due respect stop spending money on those and get a .45 and a 9mm Glock. They may not be as pretty but they go bang every single time. I have thousands of rounds through my Glock 19 and not one single problem, ever. I recently switched to the 43X and have several hundreds of rounds through it. It hasn’t been cleaned or oiled yet and it’s flawless.

My trusty Glock is always on my side. I enjoy shooting 1911's in 45. My 43X MOS is my daily. It was my 1st Glock and I have been carrying it since the video came out about 6 months ago. It has been 100% flawless and 100% reliable. It will take some years before I can call it my best gun ever but it is still in the running. Always appreciate it my friend!

I have seen Glocks fail to fire- click and nothing happens. I've also found loaded cartridges laying on the ground at my range with the unmistakable Glock firing pin indent in the primer but the cartridge did not go off. I've also seen plastic guns seize up where the slide completely locked and would not move either way so plastic guns are not immune to this.

@@billj5645 This is the 1st time I have seen one just seize up. That thing seemed welded. It wouldn’t budge. Good news is the gunsmith said he would have it finished tomorrow.

owned a glock 20 ,10mm for 25 yrs. mostly sat in the safe because it felt like a brick in my medium sized hands . Springfields xdm elite 10mm fits my hands perfectly. I'm back to the caliber I love for edc .
