I can set an old chain knowing the smallest cutter and all those cutters needing to be brought within a tolerance length of .008" of the 'Master cutter' within 2 minutes. I've designed and made a tool about as big as a set of feeler gauges that does just this. Looking to get a patent on it but if I can't, I'll make it public and just about anyone could make one themselves in their workshop in a morning if they set their mind to it. If I make it public it will most likely be in a video clip. I like hearing you saying that your favourite place is out in the woods cutting wood. The serenity and the solitude and the beauty and even the hard work are what attracts me so much as well.... Take care out there and take care with those sharp chains and keep on enjoying and respecting nature. Tom. June 13 2021.

Great explanation. I still find myself hand filing even with this tool. Mainly to define the gullet more.

Thanks! I appreciate your time. I'm upgrading my gear and hope to be able to edit better here soon to make the viewing more streamline. It's real handy to have in the tool pouch. Not a bunch of loose files. The only thing i don't like is having to purchase separate ones for 3/8" and 0.325" gauge chain... but that is a tricky one giving the different geometry.

I’m having trouble with this tool. It seems to be sharpening real good. But not enough or even anything is coming off the rackers.... thoughts?

@@nathanaeljames3886 that’s really odd. In fact, Stihl went pretty aggressive with the rakers on these. I would recommend double checking you have the correct size for your chain.
