The Tau being new flesh bodies for the Necrons, or what the Necrontyr would look like after healing from the radiation, their species suffered from.

My personal theory is that the ancient Necrontyr had some sort of research facility on or near what became the Tau homeworld, and that they had been experimenting with gene splicing in hopes of removing the turbo cancer they evolved to have due to their home system; over millennia, the operating systems in the facility continued to function and eventually failed around the time that the original Mechanicum fleet discovered the planet (hence the Stone Age tech they had at the time). They were the only other known race that has/had that level of technological understanding and capability for rapid advancement, so it would make sense. The Ethereals could have also been manually evolved in isolation from the other subspecies of Tau, because they seem to have either a form of subtle psycher capability, exude pheremones that allow them to control the other subspecies, or something else that the others aren't capable of doing (hence the lack of resistance to whatever it is)

Not sure about the whole race, but Etherials are definitely engineered. Never-before-seen individuals appearing out of thin air, distributed evenly on the planet, all equally charismatic and able to influence divergent factions to obey without exception. That's definitely premeditated. 😮😮😮 And even without having read the Farsight book(s), even rumors of whatever happened when Farsight was away from them are kind of indicative of shenanigans.

Welcome back, NERD! I like the idea that they're from the future, like the tau made an ethereal from scratch at a point where they are desperately needed and sent a few back in time. The Imperial survey that got lost in the warpstorm feels like no coincidence, so definitely some warp shenanigans going on. Maybe the ethereals made a pact with a chaos god, to go back to stop a cataclysm, and had to trade the souls of the entire race, like the necrontyr did with the c'tan. I mean, the time of the Mont'au (pre-ethereal war time) sounds like a blood ritual, and there are four castes... probably not, but you never know...

Here me out. My guess is the Tau ethereals and the warp storm was the product of the God of the Greater Good. Time is not linear in the Warp, so just like Slaneesh, the God of Greater Good would have always existed. He probably created the ethereal to lead the Tau and protected their homeworld in the Warp so they can develop uninterrupted.

So, a warp storm hides their primitive planet away, a pheromone gland from another species on the other side of the galaxy shows up in some tau, and the function clearly doesn't work quite the way pheromones should (it doesnt make sense for an entire tau army to be infected all at once as they would all need to be sharing the same atmosphere as the ethereal, and plenty of them are in different ships or sealed in their suits and mechs.), and their army tends to become disorganised immediately after an ethereal dies? This screams to me that some chaos-aligned entity shielded them or took advantage of them being shielded, experimented on them to create that caste and altered the pheromones to have warp properties. The whole tau species may have been edited to make them more receptive to it, as well. Do we know any biology-specialised chaos scientists? :)

The Tau are a illusion of how the noble light of the Galaxy of this setting, and there is no way that a species can be that technologically advanced to the speed they had, but even further need that evidence is so little considering that documentation is so few considering just how advanced the Tau are, and yet there little information about their leadership.

I disagree regarding the speed of their progress. They had six thousand years of uninterrupted isolation to develop as a civilization and the supplemented their knowledge base by allying with other space fairing civilizations. Us humans went from the stone age to the digital age in just two thousand years. With an extra four thousand without any form of interruption or interference it is not strange at all that they became so advanced.

In the old lore, they were created with eldar involvement, the ethereals have an organ that came from some other xenos race, the eldar got that organ and created the ethereals through genetic manipulation

Nah, it was the Necrons, or more precisely; some minor dynasty that awaken earlier and wanted to recreate their biological selves "aka" 'Necrotyr' without the cancer/health issues, so they may have bodies to reverse their bio-transference into. if you think about it, it makes more senses than the Eldar creating the T'au instead. also, the T'au look very similar to the Necrotyr too(minus their sickly/elderly look part).

Then why did necrontyr design their basic necron metal bodies to have hands with four fingers and a thumb? Tau have three fingers and a thumb, which makes their counting system based around fours instead of fives

@Runner-hd7ug Good point, but it still doesn't negate anything from this possibility. remember; the Necrons' original biological bodies were consumed/destroyed by the C'Tan during the bio-transference. meaning the Necrons don't have the genetic materials to recreate their bodies, as such as the only choice they have is to use another species as their biological hosts. it makes far more senses to engineer a new species that tailors to what they want and in a controlled environment: the Necrons in general have a disdain for Warp shenanigans and the T'au have an almost non-existent presence in the Warp=no Psykers and the problems they bring. also, the Ethereals could serve as the ideal host for the Necrons lords for obvious reasons. as i said: the T'au could be the byproduct of a minor Necron dynasty=not something the all Necron overlords and dynasties collectively agreed too(hek, most of the Necrons would have been still asleep at that time too). and lastly; that is not a theory i came up with, but something that i heard from older video from a channel known as '40kTheories'.

What if the others were, it just wasn't widely disclosed? Personally I see the hand of the Old Ones in the Tau. They have been hugely successful by most metrics, and although they still stand zero chance against the full might of the Imperium, yet, with the focus elsewhere, they do stand a chance of developing and advancing long enough to the point where it makes no difference.

Maybe the entire existence of the Tau is someone's uplifting experience. If so, maybe this uplifting is an ongoing process anf the etheral cast is just another tool used for this uplifting process. If this is true, the Tau's blindness to the Warp could be an engineered feature supposed to be there.

More likely the remains of an alternate timeline that went shit for the Tau, blending them together into a single species instead of the specialized groups that exist now. Escaped their timeline with knowledge of advanced technologies and history, ran to their past, and took over the privative Tau. Turning them into the Tua'va Empire.

It is a certainty that the Tau were uplifted, with the method used being the creation of the Ethereals. The only question here is who created the Ethereals, who uplifted this species. I would put my money on humans, not imperial humans, but some highly advanced remnant of humanity that escaped the Emperor's unification efforts somewhere, either the whole planet or just a few scientist. Heck even a single human could be the one responsible, either as a vanity project or as payback against the Imperium. If it is a hidden advanced human world, maybe they are using the Tau as a shield against anyone looking for them.

Low key that story with the Space Wolf and that Tau battle suits is BS 1: Why not shoot him as soon as the hand came through the door 2: These battlesuits for some unknown reason don’t have any shields, the guys protecting the leader? 3: no matter how fast this Space Furry is he is still a object moving relatively straight towards them, that’s like say they couldn’t hit a car coming straight at them….
