As a tip to save evenore money on gas, CONVERT your older 4x4 to run on propane! There are conversion kits as cheap as $1800 US with the tank! And since Propane is $1.25 USD a gallon in some parts you can save a bundle. The engine management system on any post-2005 can easy handle propane and it won't damage engine component AND since it's a cleaner burning fuel, your engine last even longer! My cousin has been running his 1995 Land Rover Discovery on propane since 1998 so 24 years later it's STILL going strong on the same engine! Many states and provinces offer rebates so the conversion becomes less than a few hundred bucks! Try propane!

Fun and beautiful vid. But if you want to differentiate these two you’re going to need a harder trail. Any veh with basic true four wheel drive could make it up that, as evidenced by both doing so without having to so much as touch any traction aids. Need a trail requiring articulation, with some bogholes, some boulders (dont have to be huge but something to get it twisted and requiring work to get over) and maybe some truly tight trails with some twisties. Still enjoyed it mucho. 🙂

How quickly it engages, how much wheel speed differential it allows, how hard it applies brakes, with adjustable speed ranges so a single map can behave differential at 5 mph than it does at 25. Use a 1-10 scale for each of the parameters. State in the manual what the settings are for each of the standard presets as well as show them in the settings screen, and allow you to save a couple custom maps plus tweak any of the settings at any time.

But, then the 4Runner is still rocking a comparative package that it has enjoyed since it hit the market in 2010. There are previous owners that may have had 4 or more 4runners in that span of time. @@1ShopSnipe The 3.4L V6 has a timing belt, not a chain. I replaced the belt and tension pullys at 100K and again at 200K. It is also recommended that you replace the water pump every time you replace the belt. I believe the 2.7L 4 cylinder Toyota engine has a timing chain. The chain shouldn't need replacing except on extremly high mileage engines where it could stretch over time and become loose.

Check for frame rust....true for all years. Also look for rust where the rear lower control arms attach to the frame. I would recommend an online search of 4Runner chat rooms and buyer's guides. Should've used 4runnner Trd Pro or Trd Off Road instead of the base SR5 Anniversary Edition. Fun video. I'm not a Toyota guy, but if I had to pick one with my own money - it would be the 4runner TRD Off-road. Has everything I need, and not really anything I don't. I only wish it had a manual transmission to go with the manual transfer case. As a shop owner, I really don't want to be working on my own vehicles on my spare time. The 4runner has a tried and true powertrain and electrical system. Fords as of late have not been the most stellar, if we are behing honest here.

The MPG is more less what I expected from the 4Runner. Smidgen better than I would have had in my TRD. For the variety of terrain ups and downs. But straight highway I can get 20-22MPG in the 4R TRD OR. It is not class leading but it is a nice compromise. Seriously, that trip was as brutal as going .. to the country store. lol If that is all you got for a mash up, I would take the 4R. I was all prepared to say Bronco, but meh. In a real head to head hard core capable match up between that Bronco and a 4R TRD OR, I would take that Bronco. IF all I was doing was rock crawling. But getting to the trails and beyond, yah, I will stick with the 4R TRD OR. 99% as capable with out the added expense.

Does it make sense to keep a 4runner that long? Absolutely not. With the price you spend for gas alone, You can get another car. Noteworthy: if you were doing a dollar for dollar comparison on these, that $16,000 could put a lift, better tires, front/rear bumpers and a rear locker on that 4Runner and for the same price as the Bronco, you’d have a bombproof reliable, VERY capable rig.
