If its made like the Steam Deck... yes. The trackpads are the best part about the Deck really. I'd love a controller like that.

The problem is that ifValve would just transfer the layout of the deck to a regular controller shape it will not be comfortable. you grab the deck way wigher because the side is straight. the original controller shape witht he lower grips curving in was made that way so your thumps would rest at an angle on the pads instead of flat. so you would use the tip of your thumks abd your thumbs would be hook shaped. the controller should be shaped more like a rechtangle and flat like the deck. or something likt eh shotpad wireless controller but with twoo trackpads and two sticks. i have that controller and the trackpads and sticks would both fit on a controller with that shapa and size. it should be shaped like the deck but without the screen basically. but alot of people still thing the shape would not work because you grip the deck at shoulder width and a controller would bering your hands closer together. i just hope it will get announced soon. i have moved to the alpakka controller in the meantime. but i would still like a steam deck/ steamcontroller v2

@@caleasthetic They could make it like 2 separate controllers with different options of connections that hold them together to attach them... so people can have them distance and curve that works best for their hands.

@@caleasthetic capacitive layer / area on triggers so you just touch trigger and activate gyro and activate fine aim layer (shooters), maybe with a full pull click and it's golden.

I'm definitely intrigued by that controller at the end. Dpad looks weird but still intrigued.

Just because of your comment, i went and tracked down what im pretty sure is the controller in the video It is the gamesir g7 pro based off the dpad and button layout Im not sure if the controller is out yet or if it's the right controller because the g7 Pro is for xbox, and as said in the video, xbox doesn't gyro

@@brainless_owl now I'm wondering if valve had partner with few companies for them to make their own steam controller. This being the gamesir version.

The guy who posted that video is a bit of a controller modder and works in the controller industry in some way. For example, he recently did his steam controller mod where he removed the left stick for 4 extra face buttons. He's very secretive and often just posts random things out of nowhere and never explains. He visited valve HQ recently for some reason too...

if i have to describe my vision of steam controller 2, it would be somethig similar to the SC1, but with a few changes: replace the single analog for an actial d-pad (yes, i see it as only trackpads instead of having one stick. and i think the pad is plenty good for analog or digital movement) change the R1 / L1 (bumpers) to be in-line with the triggers, like a ps4 controller (the current sc i find bumpers difficult to reach/press and barely use them) change the back buttons to the steam deck variant (i prefer the press into the back of the device as the deck, instead of the squize the handle of the SC) make the battery compartment slightly larger (my rechargable batteries need some of force to put in / remove) Maybe add charging functionality so when it's wired, it charges the batteries inside

In the mockup I saw I like the placement of the track pads but I would rather just have a laptop style big squared or rectangle track pad with distinct left and right click.

I know that I’m ready for it. I use trackpads a lot for my deck and I would like something compatible with that. I really don’t have a preference on how I want the controller to be, just a controller that features customizable trackpads that are in a comfortable position.

Something more like the actual steam controller. I have never held one but I love idea. I have the steam deck and was looking forward to the track pad, but it just doesn't feel quite right, maybe if it were bigger and concaved I'd think differently. You would know better than I. I see how accurate the fella was using the track pad, and THATS what I'm looking for, but, I assume that's not the norm? I have tried for countless hours to get used to the gyro aim, seen several videos with tricks and tips, and just can't seem to get used to it. The best I had was sitting in a swivel chair with a gyro controller lol.

I never tried the steam controller, and honestly don't think I'd like it, but after recently picking up a steamdeck this year I desperately want a controller with the steamdecks layout and features.

Honestly the best controller (you can argue with me but hear me out) would be one of two options. Option 1: Steam Deck but with better grips, no screen or computer, better ergonomics (since there isn't a screen trackpads can be bigger and more prominent) Option 2: A remake of the first steam controller, replace the joystick with an Xbox style Dpad, replace the face buttons with a smaller third trackpad (hear me out) have 4 back buttons. Let me explain Option 2, A track pad can do anything a set of buttons can, even better is that a track pad can be set up to function as way more than 4 buttons + input layering allowing you to have a 9 input weapon wheel or whatever on top of some other form of input. Plus the face buttons can be replaced by using the 4 back buttons instead. Most use the steam deck this way anyway. With a normal dpad you can basically play any kind of side scroller or fighting game as well. Honestly, if I could fund someone to create this idea I have I would. I cannot explain the amount of money I am willing to put down to perfect this controller. Trackpads are the superior input method, joysticks are prone to inevitable failure, even hall effect (tho the failure wouldn't be drifting but stick instead it would be degradation and tension loss) while trackpads will only slowly lose the surface of the trackpad over years of extreme use but sensitivity would be the same forever. Also I want either Dual sense smart triggers and haptics or dual stage triggers like the steam/GameCube controller and proper rumble. But these are small potatoes compared to trackpad master race.

@@emerson-biggons7078 Trackpad as buttons are useless when you need to hit two (or even three) buttons at the same time. Fighting games use this a lot.
@AQDuck

@@davidsentanu7836 1: You can have overlap on trackpad so if you hit between two "buttons" you activate both. 2: Steam Input solves it regardless since you can just make a macro for any combo.

I think he's talking about the feeling rather than actual functionality. I think it would be an interesting experiment to say the least but you'd have to tinker endlessly to get the feeling right.

Honestly for a steam controller 2, have the same layout as the steamdeck and have the shape from the xbox/dualsense controller. Easy

This is what I'm most curious about also. I suspect the capacitive thumb sticks are faked and the person is actually just pulling the left trigger to activate gyro, but idk what base controller this is. It's not a Gulikit, FlyDigi, BigBig Won, Machenike, or any other 3rd party controller I know of. If anyone knows where the original video came from please post it here.

After a few hours of looking I'm pretty sure the "leaked" controller this is the GameSir G7 Pro with the Xbox button replaced with a Steam button. I think they are faking the capacitive stick by triggering gyro with the left trigger.

I want to know more about that "leaked" Steam controller. I think that Valve should have multiple third party companies make controllers with the same features as the Hori controller. Capacitive sticks and gyro are the most important for me. If 8BitDo, FlyDigi, and Gulikit made new controllers that had a "Steam" mode that would be amazing. They can also still support Switch and Xbox but they can also have another setting for Steam.

Already have 2 Steam controllers but theres space for improvement. The closest thing to a Steam Controller 2 I've seen is the Gamesir G5, but its lack of gyro triggers me.

The steam deck is *almost* as good as the steam controller for me (I love the steam deck). I miss out on 2 things from SC; the proper dual-stage triggers were game changing for how I set up controllers, and while I can get a similar experience without the physical button at the end of the trigger press, it's not ideal. Coming from the SC to SD, the trackpads feel like they are positioned in a less than ideal location for me to use as the primary input method. I'd absolutely kill for a joystickless deck, if they gave me the fidelity of the steam deck's trackpads, with the size/shape and positioning of the Steam Controller's trackpads.

As a steam deck fan I found ps4 controller was the last good controller ever made unlike ps5 controller getting lift different problems or x buttons in less than two mouth , ps4 controller on deck running like if it was made in 2027 than 2013 this why the price of original ps4 controller bigger than ps5 because sony made the last one from cheap technology
