You won't lose everything if you pay attention to the red flags. They might get past your front gate, but when they take a poop on your lawn, you call the cops. The red flags will save you.
@elsh332
@elsh332 Ай бұрын
@brinkearney504 the red flags are much more hidden and insidious with a covert. They do much worse damage to their victims because it goes deeper into their psyche. The emotional and talk manipulation are extra malevolent with the covert because they prey on and twist all the good qualities of humanity in others around them. When you leave - if you manage it at all - then you feel like you are abandoning a helpless child because of how they function. They bleed you of all your compassion and empathy. I literally had a nervous breakdown after my last ex who was a covert narcissist (with a diagnosis, so I am speaking clinically).

@@narckillerinfj coverts are the most dangerous and I’d say they are more likely psychopaths, or at least the ones I’m dealing with are. How does any human fake an entire 7 year relationship, three of those years engaged for marriage??!?!!! I can’t fathom any human other than a complete psychopath doing such a thing

@@pickle9753Yeahhh. My ex-narc fiance pretended our entire 18-month relationship that he was divorced from his ex-wife when he was actually still married to her (and probably having se.x with her) the whole time. They were actually legally separated, living separate lives, etc but were still Fing around with each other. And she didn't care either. Just 2 horrible people. They should've gotten back together because they deserved each other with their psychological cluster Fck 🐂💩. I still hate him for what he did to me as I was naive, innocent of the facts and had no earthly idea what kind of monster I was dealing with. I was truly in love with him and believed that we would be married. I am still learning about narcissism and how I've been raised by it and surrounded by it my entire life. It's extremely frustrating, disappointing and discouraging, and just makes me want to stay in the house not wanting to be bothered with anyone.

For a disabled person or any vulnerable people out there, it's very easy to tell apart abusers, monkeys, or compassionate individuals from fakers/ bullies who pretend to be loving but in reality they're wolves in sheep's clothing.

Not always so easy. Some con artists are very good at what they do. They can slip past one's initial defenses, which is why we have to pay attention to red flags.

100%. You know their games & what you once believed about them (until they showed you otherwise) you don't anymore, so they no longer have your belief or trust. You see them for the big BS artist that they are. It used to piss me off (how they were/are) and now I still love them (family) but I went NC because it was like a mob of them drinking the same toxic kool-aid.

Hmm... I'm not sure it's disabled or vulnerable people. More like people who are more aware of what to look for, and who aren't looking to fill needs that they've not been able to meet themselves so they're trying to fill a void. If you're vigilant and educated and happy on your own, then you can deff spot them quicker. Take things slow. Say no to them and see how they respond, how they act with others etc.

@@enednas801 I disagree. There are people who are arseholes and bullies and selfish people. Most of them are obvious and these traits are there from day one. Like Richard says just avoid them. True Narcissists are all covert in the beginning. That's how they 'capture' people into their world. There are 9 traits and 6 or more mean you are getting to the dangerous end of the scale. They are the ones who cause the damage.

Cool people, seems to have a lot of ego in them, som of the time. And what is projecting, as some always do instead of being true, and re-sponsable enough, to get a straight answer from. Well well, we are different, because of culture. And some have propped themselves full of themselves, sometimes. Never have they taken a good look on to themselves, and wondered Where did this come from? Or, have had to change, or have had to ask hard (into their own minds) questions, to learn to discern, from what they have been taught or indoctrinated with. Those is a bit hard to feel they are cool, cause coolness, seems to put a mask infront of themselves, some times ;)

Please help answer this. This has been on my mind for ages and I just can’t quite work it out. It seems like a part of narcissism is an obsession with hierarchy, status, and ranking. However, to be narcissistic instead of merely confident, means in part to believe you are superior in some way which doesn’t match reality. If a guy in the UFC claims to be a tough guy, he’s not narcissistic, but if I do, I am delusional. But where is that line for each trait? Who decided it? It just seems arbitrary to me. Why are some people “allowed” to feel self confident and others don’t “deserve” it. However, most traits, like toughness, looks, intelligence, personality are not objective measures. To me this makes this a tautology, to consider someone a narcissist, you have to make a ranking of their competence and decide that they “are not as good as they think they are”, which ironically, is a narcissistic judgement to make.

I think that one’s own idea of superiority is based on their own personal subjectivity. 🤷‍♀️And once someone thinks they are superior to someone, they might think harming someone that is beneath them is just simply OK, because they’re NOT superior. Pretty much the subject matter of the series.
@synchronis346
@synchronis346 Ай бұрын
@@kathrynhasty3235 Okay but I am talking grandiosity or inflated self image here. Being abusive or manipulative or bullying others is a behaviour that is clearly wrong and flows on from low empathy. What I am asking is how it is possible to determine if someone has grandiose self image? Obviously if they say they are the smartest man alive, that’s grandiose. But if they say something like “I’m a very handsome man whom is also very tough and athletic and has a charismatic personality”, how can you differentiate between inflated self image and someone who is high achieving with high confidence? Who gets to decide that the person isn’t good looking enough to warrant describing themselves that way?

I follow someone on twitter. She's a brilliant researcher but, my goodness, what a snob. She talks a fair bit on pathology and n, but doesn't seem to notice her own arrogance, nastiness or inability to have horizontal conversations with people. She must win and shame people in every interaction. Unless you're one of her favourite people, that is. Even in the virtual space, you can feel that toxicity. It's demoralising.
