I can attest to doing things differently( and the importance thereof); I was left handed for 52 years and had a stroke which left me paralyzed on my left side; so now I’m right handed and have no choice but to do my art differently. Been watching you Bobby for years now; thank you sir.

That is inspiring. In my case, I was born left handed but my mother came from a traditional culture where this was not allowed. At a young age, she tied my left hand behind my back until I did what she wanted. It took me 33 yrs to overcome the trauma of this and many other forms of child abuse . Now I am having some overuse issues with my right hand, and am rethinking whether I should try and train my left hand to take over some of the work. . . it is not easy

@@carolsakai-artist Why not try you left hand and see how it feels? I’m sorry you had to experience that.

We can’t break the rules if we don’t know them. Sticking with the instructions at first and when you start to grasp them well, applying your advice can lead to very great results c:

Agreed. The main thing I’m trying to express is to using our logic is the most important. Not to listen to instructions blindly

As my drawing teacher told me: "Learn the rules, then learn how to break them."

This is why some art teachers are really bad - they repeat some rules without a word of explanation why and it leads to really bad things. And personally: I try to do summaries at least every month, asking myself why I approach certain things the way I do and whether it works for me - if it doesn't there's no point in repeating it over and over again hoping for better results when it obviously doesn't work. I don't want to wake up in a few years and say I learn art since 10 years but there results are really bad just because I didn't ask myself if it works at all or whether I can say I actually work - the first few years of my digital art adventure was just repeating bad habits or doing thoughtlessly exercises somebody recommended (without checking if the exercise is good for my level but they recommended it to everyone so to me too) in the very few free moments I had.

Thanks! I'm curious, why you didn't want to joint an existing studio? What value did you saw in making your own studio?

Long story short… The timing at the moment was important.

Hey Bobby, good evening, that was a really nice tip, I'm strategizing my way out of retail right now to move forward with my Game Development / Artistry Career this year thanks to a lot of things that are working on my favour right now What you mention about timing well matches exactly what I'm feeling right now, to search and research the industry and how to get into it ( plus I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Games Development ) By the end of the year I really hope I can start working with that Thanks for the video and Cheers from Australia!

Awesome tip Bobby! Unrelated to the topic but please consider making a portfolio site like Artstation, a lot of artists need a new place right now.

Thank yo ufor this! I was just thinking yesterday about how my fast improvement came from thinking about the science of art. It's a formula in a way. I think logically of all my actions and every brushstroke i make. And I always try to look for the *why* instead of just looking up tutorials on how to draw the human figure. Knowing the why will take you so far as an artist. Or, anything you want to learn really.

Right on. Learning how we learn is something I think about a lot as well
