Not to destroy the illusion but there's a thing called a "tear stick". It's a menthol stick you rub under your eyes, when your skin heats up the vapor it causes irritation which produces tears and redness in the eyes.

I appreciate how this started as a total valid highschool physics video and just flew completely off the rails. Also pushing this idea further is not a bad explanation on how objects in orbit work. If you reach orbit you are basically jumping as fast as you are falling.

Orbit is when you're jumping so far that you're missing the earth constantly. Like any object your trajectory is a parabola but the other end in this case goes beyond where earth is so it curves onto itself

If it did remain intact, again we come back to the speed, and at that speed the impact would be less like artillery and more like a large meteor. Also, it doesn't matter how fast you go at launch, without accelerating again at your apoapsis you'll never go into orbit. You'll just come back down where you launched from.

Overall perhaps some of the best VFX work I've seen from this channel (excluding main). Having been watching this channel since 2010, along with all of the other VFX groups, I have seen the gamut of good and bad (rushed) shots. I had to stop and think if you actually drove to the grand canyon or if that was an elaborate scene extension. Additionally when you added the SSC land speed record element into the shot under the freeway bridge, I am questioning which techniques you all used to achieve such a great result. Also hilarious concept, the acting from Jordan and Wren was great. I knew a lot of these answers already but I'm grateful to see the animations for curiosities sake.

Pretty sure it's designed to keep to the ground, so I assume the real one would have either plowed through the ramp, or flattened its curve at the end.

Thrust SSC was primarily designed to stay level, being jet driven it only needed traction for steering, and at the top speed the wheels were more like rudders than traction wheels. The aerodynamic challenge was making sure the sonic boom shockwave didn't lift and flip the car. Project Bloodhound was aiming for 1000+ mph and would have had similar challenges but testing never got above supersonic before the project collapsed.

You guys had so much with this one!!! Kinda wished you went even deeper with the physics. There’s a LOT of really interesting things that happen when you go transonic at 1atm. There’s a reason why nobody is interested in breaking thrustSSC’s record… the thermal effects become so extreme that you reach the limit of current composite materials. Your vehicle expands so much under the thermal load that it pushes itself a part. There’s a company aiming to yeet small rockets into orbit it via giant centrifuges that’s learning this the hard way.

Dude, during that last segment, I repeated the phrase, “that’s escape velocity” so many times lol the entirety of Jordan’s calculations at the end assume the earth is an infinitely tiling plane, and not a sphere. The speed to reach Russia is 3x the escape velocity of the earth Good bit, though. The end was still really funny xD

I was thinking that keeping all these engines during all the jump was inefficient, too much drag. On the best optimization, just the pilot cabin would be left when taking off the ramp.
