You won’t fully appreciate an e-bike until you try one! After being out of mountain biking for about three years, I initially planned to get a high-end aluminum MTB, like a Commencal. But once I tried an e-bike, I had such a blast that I couldn’t even consider a regular bike anymore. I was also fortunate to find a great deal on a Trek Rail, so I went for it. I can honestly say it’s an absolute game-changer-especially for someone who wants to maximize their ride. If you’re already spending significant money, it makes sense to invest in one with a motor. From a performance standpoint, you’ll get more out of your rides, which ultimately means more fun!

Great timing actually. I’ve been riding both analog and e-bike on the same trails recently to gauge my interest for a new analog rig. What I found was that my older 2018 Scott 700 LT Tuned 160/160 with RSV 30 upgrade and AXS XO are still working perfectly fine. @29lbs fully kitted with maxxis exo with adjustable kinematics, flip and twin-lock, I simply cannot see how it gets better for an analog rig. I tried a couple of the newer models Scott, Trek, Specialized, and frankly put, none of those were even close to snappy and gnar charging as the 700 LT Tuned in one package. For my custom SC Bullit, at 50lbs fully kitted with maxxis DD, I simply cannot stop riding it, I can go for hours on it and that really is something special. I cannot say one way or another which I would prefer if I had to choose one, but probably the Bullit as it can really do everything with adjustable suspension. It’s incredible. IMHO. Would I ever spend +8K for an analog bike, probably not. It would have to be a complete quiver killer, but that’s reserved for a full power +630wh under 20kg e-bike that hasn’t been made yet. Cheers!

Having had the Gen 3 frame for 2 years previously and finding it a breeze to set up and ride the Gen 4 wasn’t that! It was soft- too soft into its travel and then harsh as hell on rough descents! Eventually I fitted a Fox X2 and experimented like hell - this eventually got me to sweet spot with a lot of LSC and HSR - one volume spacer and about 30% sag. From watching Guys review it almost sounds as though the new version feels as my Gen felt on the original shock. I love this bike now - it’s still playful and turns like a housefly! I’ve got a Kenevo SL that’s immensely capable however it’s no trail bike and nowhere near as much fun to ride! Sounds like the bronsons been edged further towards short travel enduro bike!

Higher prices are being done on purpose by brands as they want to push us into e-bikes. Regular mountain bikes have no easy route to post-sale monetization. Half of a new acoustic or analog or Amish mtb is electric already with wireless shifting gps ect. It’s only a matter of time until the tech become so light as about two filled 24oz water bottles that it’s going to become a none issue. They also have created classes of eMTBs so I see the trail regs in the future allowing them more and more biased on the class of eMTB. This track slash is an early example of the trend I feel we will continue to see. I myself don’t mind since I’ve tried them and they are a hoot. Absolutely the happiest and friendlier people on the trail are the eMTBers I have seen banking berms on the climbs. And the most smug or just a little grumpy type of people are the ones sucking wind up the climbs which I can’t really blame them since they are working that hard. Just like vhs tapes I think the regular mtb as we know it will be a dinosaur here in future. I just done see this tech going away, just getting better and better.

The motor isn't really the issue, it's the battery tech. They simply don't have enough energy density so they end up being massive and weighing 3-4kg. Add 4kg to your downtube on your bike and you'll need a larger chassis suspension fork, more powerful/heavier brakes, thicker casing tires etc. There needs to be a revolution in battery tech IMO. I think that maybe, you are looking at the question of pricing, from the wrong perspective. In my opinion, discerning buyers, choose the type bike they will find most useful. If black is downhill, and white is cross country. Then everything else in the middle, are just shades of grey. Having chosen which shade of grey sir/madam prefers (or indeed black or white), the next choice is specification. Or, how much does the buyer want to spend just now. I believe, that the decision to buy an e-bike, is separate. The first time buyer, may be persuaded to buy an e-bike. Though, considering a base model hardtail is well over €1000, this may be tricky. Experienced mountain bikers, are more likely to buy an e-bike, as a second bike. Example, we all have our main bikes, the ones we use daily (hopefully). Then, those of us who have a second bike. Will have something more specialised. Like an e-bike, or a dirt jumper, downhill rig etcetera. However, it would be very interesting, to see an interview with a bike company employee. An interview, where the purchasing history of the last few years is discussed.

I think most people are riding bikes that are just way too heavy and are massively over biked for the majority of the riding they do. So they end up suffering much more than they should and that is then there reasoning to get something with an engine. Myself I much prefer the feel of a light weight 120mm down country bike that does everything extremely well and I have never felt the need to have something with a motor, not yet at least. E-bikes in my opinion have become a different sport to regular mountain biking / cycling and much closer to legal off road motor bikes. It’s not for me, though I do see the appeal for the less fit or experienced rider out there. Or for someone who does not get chance to ride often, but then that is a huge amount of money to be sitting in the garage most of the year. But I do hope most companies do keep a decent range of bikes for all disciplines of riding. As for now I much prefer riding a proper bicycle under my own power.

Too many people are too lazy to pedal uphill these days and want the easy way out without suffering so they choose ebikes, God forbid if legs burn a bit or they feel uncomfortable or in pain when pedaling, I find that pathetic tbh 🙄😒.

Would be nice to engage in Mtb media without having e-bikes shoved down my throat at every turn. I get that MBR are paid by sponsors and the bike industry wants us all on e-bikes. I’ll happily get one when my body gives out and I can’t pedal up hills anymore.
@MBRmagazine2 ай бұрын
To address a couple of specific points, if you’re referring to this specific video, only one topic out of three involved e-bikes. All our sponsored videos are marked as such and we try to make sure that we balance commercial videos with editorial videos, such as the bike tests, which are 100% impartial and very expensive and time consuming to produce. We try to balance the amount of regular and e-bike content, and if you visit the home page you’ll see the last three bike reviews are all regular bikes. We’re only a team of three people (with a few contributors) so pleasing everyone all the time is an impossible task. Now that we don’t have a print magazine, all of our content is also absolutely free for everyone.

Analogue Bikes? What kind of absurd term is this? You should at least google the meanings of the terms. Some idiot confused the terms "electric" with "electronic" and "electronic" with "digital", after which he called a non-electric bicycle "analog", and you picked up on this nonsense. You didn't study physics at school and don’t know the definitions of basic physics terms?

Bikes still seem popular in North America and other countries with actual mountains. I think the large scale of eBike adoption in the UK says more about the average Brit than anything. You know, "I only use eco mode, I still get a good workout' types. I did a 60k industry ride at CWX and there was maybe 3 mopeds out of 100 riders...
