I’m a huge fan of all Jeeps but the 2 door is the original and still the best off road. I recently purchased a 23 Rubicon 2 door automatic (factory geared at 4.88) and I love it. With 35s and no lift it’s comfortable, quick, maneuverable, and I’m getting 19 mpg. My wife and I couldn’t be happier. I have a modified 4 d JK and a modified Gladiator. The 2d is the most enjoyable to drive.

I added the Goodyear Wrangler M/T 315/70 17 (c rated)I have had BFG AT in the same size and wanted to try these out. They ride smooth but the only negative I can point to is that they really hold small rocks and throw them at speed. If I had it to do over I would just go with the BFG AT.

I factory ordered a ‘23 2 door sport s & love it. I’m not even an off roader, straight up basic pavement princess here. I think the 2 door is good for city driving too, I can fit him in just about any parking spot & parallel parking is easier too. I just think it’s nice to have options & if I had a big family or whatever, I can see how the 4 door would work better, but I’m glad the 2 door is available.

Good points. My wife and I fall into the camp with the other folks who prefer the two door , because it’s just the two of us. A stretched 2 door would be ideal for wheelbase, wheeling and fitting those batteries that are so good for our environment (yeah right). Sort of a LJ JL or JK8 version. IMO If Jeep offered a longer 2 door version it would be unstoppable and have awesome curb appeal. I love the 2 door and have an 03 Rubicon (stretched to 100” wb) and a 05 Rubicon Sahara LJ. When I was shopping for a Jeep in 2021 I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted a 2 door wrangler rubicon and that's what I ended up with. The first day I brought the Jeep home I removed the rear bench seat and put it away and now I have plenty of cargo space. At the first sign of warmer spring weather, the top and doors come off and it's ready for summer fun. Later on when I wanted 4 doors I bought a Gladiator to go with the Wrangler. Now I have the best of both worlds. But my 2 door wrangler is my prize and I have plans on getting rid of it any time soon.

I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn 4.0 I6 with 3.73's on 32" KO2's. 156k miles and she still runs great. Of course, I'm meticulous about the maintenance. Doors and soft top windows are in the garage from April to early Oct. Modest 2" lift on Old Man Emu coils, Fox 2.0 Shox, Fox steering stabilizer, Currectlync steering, Freedom Off Road front adj track bar, M.O.R.E steering box brace, JKS quick discos, Freedom Off Road front lower adj control arms, the rest are fixed Detroit Axles, transfer case drop kit. 32's allows us Jeepers to maintain that great low end torque without unnecessary and expensive re-gearing, and be able to go most anywhere, it's the best of all worlds. Definitely recommend this build to anyone who is an adventurer, not a rock crawler. The aftermarket pushers have been fooling people for decades about "needing huge tires and lifts" to do any off roading which is bs. The best part is, I'm married with 2 sons, the wife loves the TJ when we go to the Outer Banks for beach wheelin, beach camping and surf fishing. 😎🏝🌊🏖🎣 Put the jumbo cargo rack in the hitch and it's off to the beach. You CAN have a 2 dr with a family, who wouldda thunk it? 🙄 Problem is today, everyone is LARGE and NEED everything they own with them at all times. I'm a minimalists and most men are, or at least were during my childhood, unfortunately today, we are a very rare breed. My sons and I have a blast in it year round, especially in the summer. Bartact seat covers and a Bedrug make any TJ look top notch. I'm not a 4 dr fan, I get the practicality, but they are absolutely goofy and are not Jeeps. A Jeep is a short wheel base, 2 door, soft top, nimble as they are from '41 - '06 and certainly don't have more techno than a 747. ✈️ I drove a 2 and 4 dr JLs for my job recently, and the ride quality never felt like they had solid axles. It felt too car like, not once did either ever feel like a Jeep. Today it was 80° here in Virginia, incredibly warm for February. Spotted an amazing YJ, doors and top off, full summer mode, completely restored in show room condition. It was nice to see a YJ not turned into a Jurassic Park edition. Don't get me wrong, they look cool, but it's been way over done. Also saw a Gladiator with hood Scrambler decals. Sorry, but the Gladiator lacks the classic nostalgic cool factor of the CJ-8. Really makes you appreciate the CJ-8 even more. Anyway, great video but sad to hear the 2 dr is all but over. O|||||||O 🇺🇲 Only in a 2 Dr 🇺🇸 '41 - '06

Ultimately, lighter is better off road. Combine that with the break over angle and maneuverability and it just makes sense. You lose a little storage and one seat, but no one rolls 5-up in a JLU anyway. People tend to think they need more space than they actually do. Wheeling is about simplicity and fun.

I've owned 3 Jeeps: 2005 TJ, 2018 JLUR, and just ordered a 2024 two-door Willys. I got into the Jeep Wrangler a bit later in life. I really enjoy them. I so look forward to the new Willys I ordered. I have a small family (me, wife, and daughter). My daughter is so looking forward to getting it. She goes, "I don't care about having to crawl into the back seat" I was impressed with the package of the 2024 Willys. It's almost a Rubicon in regards to capability: 4:10 ratio, 33 inch tires, Dana 44 axles, rear locker, Rubicon fenders for more clearance. I think right off the dealer lot, it is capable of almost any trail. I plan on keeping this Jeep for a long time, even if it means replacing the 2.0L at some time in the future, hopefully way long time in the future. Who knows, those of us who buy the 2 door now will have a coveted 2 door that Jeep won't offer anymore, making them a little more valuable.

I had a 2003 TJ manual Rubicon (my fav so far), 2009 JK auto Rubicon and I just purchased my last Jeep a 2023 JL auto rubicon. The JL cost more than all the others combined. All were 2 doors! A Jeep should have two doors in my opinion. The JL makes this 58 year old feel young. It is fun to drive, rides rough and does not handle like any other SUV. I love it! I hope they always offer a 2 door Jeep. As for a V-8 I think the 5.7 in a 2 door would be fun😎

The fact that the 2-doors are more and more rare, makes me love my 2 door JL that much more. The short wheelbase of the 2 door rubi JL looks like such a chunky beast with a pretty simple setup. I put AEV pintler wheels with 35x12.5/17r KO2s, the AEV dualsport RT 2.5" suspension, and the mopar fender flares from the extreme recon, and it looks so beefy. I feel like you gotta go with 40s so get a similarly beefy proportion on the 4-door. Might go with 37s in the future, but I kind of feel like 35" is the perfect look on a 2-door. I dont care that the 2 door didnt come with the recon package. The diesel option would have been cool though.

I have a '21 Willys 2 door. Your point about it not being able to accommodate a hose out/weather-proof set up is well taken. That fact will kill the wrangler as it has always been known. This JL 2 door still evokes a ton of nostalgia (purposely vague steering, borderline too much power, general 'dangerous' feel) and also all the plusses you noted. The back seat of mine is removed and I use it as a very small pick up basically. That said, the best point you had was about the cost. Mine was optioned to $38000. In retrospect that is about $10K too much just for this level of nostalgia. I owned a CJ-7 and a TJ for years so 4 doors have always been a goofy abomination to me since they came out in 07 (I absolutely understand why some people love them though). Would rather just buy a 4runner if I need 4 doors. So I agree, days of the 2 door will be gone soon. They can't be priced low enough nor made with the same bare bones utility. I always thought a JL version of the original 2 door unlimited would be cool. Better breakover than a 4 door, slightly more space than a 4 but cooler looking. Not likely FCA would go that route though.

Personally, the 2 door needs to be WAY cheaper. It could easily become an entry level model marketed as a “1st car” for young drivers, seniors would like to have something fun and simpler to operate, and could be a backup “weekend warrior” vehicle for people with families. The price point is really why the 2 door is dying, not due to functionality. With paper thin margins the 2 door could become a loss leader and help boost the sales of 4 doors down the line. The base model 2 door needs to be affordable and simple (they could make money on factory upgrades).

My wife and I are retired. I pulled a 2 door behind my 40 foot RV all over the Country. My wife and I were traveling pre-pandamic a large about of the time.. Once at a location and settled for a few days we liked to explore the area on day trip. When doing so sometimes you find yourself in tight places. This happens many times. It is hard to find a place in which you can't turn a 2 door around and get out of troube even if traveling by yourself. The down side for me is that I need lots of space for camera gear and it needs to be secure. SO I removed the back seat and put a lock compartment there for expensive gear. After all it is just my wife and I traveling.... SO at Yellowstone my daughter flew out to Jackson Hole and joined us for a week. Well - -we had to rent a car for a week in order for her to travel with us. So there is that.. Now we pull a 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk behind the RV. It has more space than the 2 door but not as fun in my opinion. SO as I sad before I am on the lookout for a TJ. I probably will not pull the TJ behind the RV on long trips but there are lots of fun things to do with a 2 door Jeep as I live near the Smokey Mountains in East Tennessee. I can see them out my window as we speak here.,

Hey Matt! Fun seeing my new 2dr Punkin rubi on your channel. I absolutely love it and I def get the nostalgic driving it, especially with the 6speed. I really don’t think they are going to keep the 2 door around in the next iteration, primarily because of the epa push for EV and the lack of space for a battery. Perhaps if they went to a full electric model where the motors were at the wheels, like rivian, they could put the battery under the hood. This would mean an end to the solid axles though. The uncertain future of the 2 door definitely played a role in me ordering one of the possible last of its kind. I have the 392 as well and can drive that if I need space. You are going to love the 392!

I own a 2021 2 door and wanted one from the beginning. It was bought used and when we bought it, it was the only one 2 door rubicon on the lot. The one draw back that my wife has expressed is that it feels more skittish on the road and driving down the highways. There are a lot of advantages to it, and I intend to build it up with a slight lift, better bumpers, and offroad lights so that I can eventually travel the country with my wife and do jeep trails. I have four kids and three of them are teenagers that will be moving on and out of the house soon. I rarely need to transport more than two other kids at which is perfect considering it only holds four people. I regularly accelorate onto the freeways faster than two and four doors wranglers with the six cylinder engine and have gotten up to 27 miles to the gallon in my fuel economy, (usually about 22). No complaints and have gone places in two wheel drive no car has any business going, no complaints and no regrets.

As a former Land Rover owner (1964-1993), I always preferred the 88" vehicles to the 109" vehicles. The extra space in the "Long" station wagon was very nice, as was its extra payload capacity in weight. A 109" Land Rover, any model of it, with the 2.25 liter four cylinder engine was terribly underpowered. The NADA version of the six cylinder engine had major engine problems when premium fuel was not used and when those sixes were lugged. My favorite of the Series Land Rovers was the Series III, 88-inch station wagons. (I had the SW top with tropical roof; a also had a full-length canvas top, and a pick-up cab as well as what Rover called the 3/4 length canvas top. My pickup cab had a tropical roof panel on it.) I drove the Series III quite frequently in San Diego with no top at all on the vehicle. Most of the time for tearing around town, I drove it with the pickup cab on the Series III 88-inch. Since 2012, I've owned a JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. To put this in simple and direct terms, my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon has been vastly more reliable than any Land Rover product I've ever owned. (Had quite a few of them over the years between 1964 and 1993. Also brought in a grey market Range Rover in 1982 that I kept for eleven months.) I've become a great lover of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, but, to be completely honest with you, I'll always prefer driving---at least on trips of several hundred miles or less---a shorter wheelbase vehicle. I've yet to own a two-door Wrangler, but have thought about buying one for the last few years. I would NOT replace my Unlimited JK Rubicon with a two-door Rubicon. It would be a second Wrangler for my wife and I to enjoy, to love, and to have great fun with. I like your videos! Thank you for your fine product information on Jeep! These days the non-emotional side of my brain says "stick with Jeep." Land Rover was good in its day, but its day---and its place (Africa and Australia in the 1950's and 1960's)---is long gone. Today's Jeep truly is a better, far better and far more reliable product. My 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon was a factory order. Our next Jeep will, almost certainly, be another factory order. We do love the tight turning circle of the short-wheelbase Wrangler. Andy McKane, 2 March 2023, former owner of McKane's Rover Imports of San Diego, California, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.

Hey Matt, Love the cannel, I've watched the occasional video from CJ's and from Susquehanna, I'm really fond of you industry news videos. Been a long time Jeep guy, I'll be 60 this year. 2x YJs, 04 TJ Rubicon, 14 JK Rubicon, but I'm currently Jeepless. I've set a trend over the years and 24 is my year for a new one. It will be a 2 door Rubicon, provided they still make them, and will give Lindsey a call to see what she can do for me when the time comes. Jeeps are not what they use to be for sure. If Jeep made a stripped Rubicon today I would buy it. No power anything, hand cranks windows etc. If they made a Willys sport with Dana 44s and lockers front and rear I'd be all over that. But we know it's not marketable so I won't hold my breath. If a 4 door Jeep had been around back when I had kids I would probably be a 4 door Jeep guy, but they didn't, so I'm not. My oldest son is though, he has a family so it's perfect for him. I would buy a jeep, need something bigger for the kids and trade it for something bigger. Once my kids were grown I bought the the 2 door JK and pulled the rear seat out. It didn't go back in until I traded it in last year. I relocated for work and needed a commuter, about 80 miles a day. JLs are better in some regards, not so much in others. I have a lot of places I want to go in the next few years want a Jeep with a warranty and I can drive over multiple days and still be able to get off road. I've done all the lifting and big tires I'll ever do. The back seat will go away, A winch and on board air will go in and that's it. Time to hit the road and explore.

Hey there! Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your Jeep journey with us. It's great to see such a strong love for the 2 door Wranglers, and I totally understand your desire for a stripped-down Rubicon. But hey, we can always dream, right? It's awesome that your oldest son is carrying on the Jeep tradition and that a 4 door is the perfect fit for his family. And don't worry, even though the JLs might not be perfect in every way, they still have that iconic Jeep spirit and capability to take you to those places you want to explore. Sounds like you have some exciting adventures ahead of you, and we can't wait to hear about them once you hit the road in your new 2 door Rubicon. And hey, if you ever decide to strip it down even further with hand-crank windows and no power anything, we won't judge - we might even give you a round of applause for keeping it old school. Cheers!

I own a 2-door sting gray. I’m single with no kids or wife so I saw it as enough space for myself. I love the look and handling of my 2-door. But I am with you on the future. I believe the 2-door is on its way out. Now if I get another it will be a 4-door just for the space. I believe the 2 door should be less money that what it is currently at. So at the price I’d just go 4 door instead and have more room. I love that I can turn around anywhere and park anywhere. I hope to keep it for as long as it will last and put 4 door beside of it one day!

I think your thoughts and insight are right on. I have a 2020 2 door JL Rubicon Recon and, as you mentioned, am in that empty nester stage of life so the 2-door is the right size for me. But I also have a modified late model Ford Ranger that fills in all the places where the 2-door JL falls short (passengers and cargo). One clarification on electrification, my Jeep has the 4 cylinder turbo with e- torque (I’ve read there are only a few thousand of these over one or two model years) and while it’s not a plug-in, it is electrified. I have 35s and it still gets over 20 mpg on the highway and around 15 mpg during moderate wheeling with 50/50 4L and 4H. Side note, I didn’t purchase this powertrain deliberately but am very pleased with it, it smokes my turbo Ranger and my buddies 4-door JL 3.6, a lot having to do with weight and the electric “motor” filling in for the turbo lag I suspect.

I had a 2 door JK and really like it, all the benefits that you mentioned were accurate with a 2 door. I ended up trading it in on a 2020 JL 4 door and I did so for the extra space, both for passengers and storage. I'm 62 and the wife is just a couple of years behind me and having the extra space made sense, all of our friends are in the same age group and if we want to have them ride along to the beach or into the woods I don't think they're going to be real excited about squeezing in and out of a 2 door.

Thankfully, I got myself a 2021 2-Door Wrangler Rubicon (EU Spec), not planning to get rid of it ever, really. Already here in Europe, all countries except Cyprus (where I live) and the UK, are only selling the 4-Door 4xe version and not the 2-Door. With the new trends in car industry for these hatchback-crossovery SUVs that also "offroad" e.g., new Defender, the Wrangler is now an all-time classic and the quintessential off-roader with an on-road presence and cool factor that really no other vehicle matches (maybe the G-Class a bit, but that doesn't have a 2-Door version anymore); now the 2-Door Wrangler, that is in a class of its own really, both for its classic off-road appeal and proportions and its off-road manners. If they decide to stop it, it will become an even rarer finding on the road, and you can already imagine what will happen to the already good ability of Wranglers to hold their value (2-Door value will sky-rocket).

That said, the reason I wanted a 2dr is because I’m a young guy and feel as though I won’t have a ton of time in my life where a 2dr makes sense in the future. 2 door will always be best for offroading, but it does annoy the hell out of me that the 2dr uses a square rollcage rather than a fastback, which would make it look alot better with the top down. I also hate that the rear sets dont fold flat, but instead you have to tumble them upwards and pull them out, plus how the rear seats are full sized. Like no ones going back there for comfort, just get a small, skinny, slightly elevated bench seat like bleachers or something, the seats take way too much room

2018 JK hardtop here. Mine is more or less stock. I bought four extra wheels with aggressive stock size tires for winter. Removed the back seat and stored. It's my daily runner. I don't do trails or ride through the waves at the beach. Never had the doors off. Never had the rear top off. I use it for uphill climbs in the snow here on my small farm. Don't have a choice around here when it snows. I'm a big guy and driver seat all the way back. 4 door never made sense to me. No room behind the front seats when I drive. If I had to I would remove the rear seats in the 4 door model. The Gladiator just doesn't work as a truck. Wish they reintroduce the J Series. I would look at that! Just ordered a 2 door JL, I feel like it’ll be my last opportunity to own a new 2 door. I’ve never owned a Jeep before, but I’ve driven my fair share of JKs, mostly 2 door. I’m not single, but neither one of us want kids ever, so that’s not an issue. Also, there’s the old line of the dealer saying “well if it was MY daughter I’d NEVER let her drive off the lot with one,” which is fair. But my actual resume says “professional driver,” because driving, and driving carefully, is literally my career. Plus where I live, there are millions of 4 door pavement princesses, and I can’t stand the thought of looking like one of them. Only thing I’d want to change in my Jeep is the fully manual door locks. Wish I could put the key in and twist it and lock/unlock BOTH doors instead of just the one, y’know? Maybe an A1 kit or something.

Agree with you I use mine gently but but love the low range tractor feel and control you get . Mine is a 19 2 door rubicon and it is a Manual . I maintain it beyond factory care and keep it tip top. I’ve some wild adventures with this beast and legend . As a tank driver and armoured vehicle operator and recon soldier amongst other things . Jeep is a tank it’s a legend but we all feel the inflation reduction of its purity . It’s out of balance in price and the service centres and warranties are atrocious but I love it abs it makes me feel alive and that something I’m fighting for . Memories , experiences and scars that make it worth your blood sweat and tears . They don’t make them like they used to and they are cheap but they cheap as they’ve ever been and the most expensive prices in Gods name . If you just be still you will see tho just how much of your efforts you put forward are not replenished no matter know we cut it or dive it someone of getting burned but please for the love of everything let the jeeps be protected and preserved and cherished as they are disappearing and more and more watered down and expensive . May your tires last and you rims stay true and that vibration and noise treat you to that special delight that makes you turn on your light 💡

2-door is what started the Jeep craze. 60 minutes went after the CJ-5 because of its short wheelbase...and the fact that people can't drive. I had a '77 Jeep CJ-7. Ran no top all summer and fall. Beat the snot out of it and had a blast. A JL Wrangler is the same from the front doors forward even the front section of carpet is the same. So R&D is sharable between the 2-door and 4-door. Same tailgate and glass lift hatch. Same 3.6 liter V6 and Etorque 3.6 liter V6. Same 6-speed manual transmission. Mostly same axles. So they share a tremendous amount of parts commonality. Which in the automotive assembly area is cost conscious. If you look at the body stampings compared to say a CJ-2...very different but very much the same. Stamping dies haven't changed that much. Mazda Miata has a very strong following but still isn't produced that much. I don't see them killing off what made Jeep. Do I want a 2-door...yup! Had a JK Wrangler Rubicon Hardrock. Loaded with a 6-speed manual transmission. Hypergreen. Only change I would make now is an automatic. And by no means an ETorque junk or a 4XE! I'll burn fossil fuel till I die. I can run from here to California and back. Hit every gas station there is. No worries. Good debate. If I was Stillantis, 2-door will stay. For as long as there is a 4-door.

She is my daily and off-roader, but if I had more people riding with me, the JKU would definitely make more sense. Also, we have 2 Great Danes, and while they do fit in the the back, it is not comfortable for long road trips. Also, I would say that the two "worst" things about a 2 door are: getting tossed around by semi trucks and high winds and I so wished I could roll down the back window. I have a feeling the 2dr will continue in for basic trims, Sport, Sport S, Willys, and Rubicon trims. They will most likely ditch the 3.6L and will keep the 2.0L turbo as the 2dr base engine with manual, and auto options, and the 3.6L E-torque will be the “Electric” option for the 2dr model. Just my simple thoughts. I myself have a 4dr auto 3.6 JL and with 35’s, a 2” lift, and a LSD in the rear it does amazingly well off road, heck a lot of time I can go through most trails in 2WD. In the future my wrangler will get 4.56 gears and at the minimum a rear locker. No sure if I really need or would ever use a front locker, as I generally don’t do rocks. t's great to hear that you love your 2021 2-door Jeep with the 6-speed manual transmission. It's understandable that you might be disappointed with the lack of aftermarket options available for your specific configuration. Unfortunately, manual transmissions have become less common in modern vehicles due to factors such as fuel economy regulations and shifting consumer preferences. As a result, it's possible that the 2-door model with a manual transmission could eventually be phased out of the Jeep lineup. However, it's great to see that there are still passionate Jeep enthusiasts like yourself who value the experience of driving a manual transmission and appreciate the unique capabilities and characteristics of the 2-door model. Regardless of the direction that Jeep decides to take with their lineup in the future, it's important to continue to support and enjoy the vehicles that we love.

I bet they don’t redesign the 2DR JL in the future, keeping them around like the Checker Cabs but not taking them into 4Xe. I use our JLU as the Chuckwagon and I’ll use our forthcoming Gladiator to carry heavy gear, tons of extra water & fuel; every BDR Trip still needs 2Dr’s as “Scout” vehicles for the convoy.
