Digging up fields and car parks and back gardens is all very well, but how could Time Team pass up a chance to dig up a living room? The manor house in Nassington was purchased in a derelict state, and while restoring it, several massive post holes were investigated that are of a size and spacing to be a Saxon great hall.

Maybe the homeowner wanted to refloor and dig a pool for the eventual sale of the home. To save on cost, write it off, and possibly skirt around historical site laws he called the time team to make it possible?

Just have a series where you dig up under peoples houses then bail on them whether or not you find anything. 00:01 “we’re digging up this family’s kitchen to see if there’s a medieval forge underneath...” 59:00 “nope! Well goodnight everybody!” “But what about our kitchen?!” “...Goodnight everybody!” *scarpers*

What's the benefit to the landowner if something of historical importance is found? Many of the landowners seem so keen to have the team work on their property. I don't know about the UK, but here in Canada we'd be slapped with so many restrictions that it would make it almost impossible to do anything to the property without costing a fortune.

Why in the world would the homeowners let Time Team destroy an irreplaceable tile floor to look for stains in the dirt.
@Skyfire_The_Goth
@Skyfire_The_Goth 3 жыл бұрын
Because it isn't irreplaceable, there are industries in the U.K. dedicated to making replacement parts for old buildings, using the same techniques and materials as they did for the originals, so when parts need replaced they are replaced with parts that might as well be original. So those ones that got broken can be replaced with pretty much identical tiles. It isn't just tiles either, it's everything from roof beams to columns to floor and roof tiles, to the chains and other fasteners used. As long as they made a genuine attempt to preserve as many as possible the floor would still be considered original.
