Is There a Way to Stop My Ingrown Toenails From Coming Back Once and For All?

I had both sides of my left big toe nail removed because both sides were ingrown. I asked the podiatrist if he could do anything to keep it from growing back and he said that he could keep it from growing back by putting an acid on both ingrown sides that he removed. I said ok and during the operation he also added that he was going to be very agressive so that they wouldn't grow back. Well here we are less than a year after the procedure and both sides of the nail are about half way grown back. I hate this because my toe hurt like hell for about 3 weeks after the nail removal and the acid treatment. Is this it? Is this all that podiatry has to offer...return to the podiatrist once a year to have the sides of the nail cut out? If it is then I won't let him use the acid again! The procedure without the acid is far less painful. Thanks, any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Omg they did the acid on mine too and here I am after just removing the same nail again. And holy shit that acid burnssss😭

I refuse to go back after that. My insurance didn't cover it so it was $100. I just do it myself the best I can now

I would have said no, but there's a non-invasive treatment called Onyfix that works to do just that. See if a podiatrist in your area offers it.

Thanks doc! What is the name of the medication that will chemically cauterize the corner of the nail matrix? If I remove the ingrown toe nail all I need is the right medication that will stop it from coming back right? First time I heard of this thank you.

My toe nails are brown and thick and my podiatrist told me there’s nothing showing, that’s just how my toenails are naturally. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Can this be fixed or no?

Your podiatrist can send a sample of your nails to the lab to see what’s causing them to be thick and discolored. Some causes, like a fungal infection, can be treated. Others, sadly, cannot.

@@DrAndrewSchneider 😭 he did that and it didn’t show anything in the results. He also said some of the brown lines I have is for wearing tight shoes as I was growing because my toe knuckles shows it. Thanks anyways.
