Don’t like the way Dr. Phil handled this. You can have empathy and sympathy. The guy is going through something that most people - including Dr. Phil DON’T understand, because they only have clinical knowledge, not first hand experience. It would be impossible for Dr. Phil to truly know what it’s like without living it. This guy isn’t a jerk, he’s suffering. All creatures lash out when they’re in pain or they’re distressed, I would have thought a psychologist would have handled the issues with more tact and gentleness. Save the “tough love” act for entitled Californian teenagers, give real, kind therapy to people like this who NEED and deserve it.

The prejudice in this episode, Id be shocked if he didn't go home and commit suicide. Your job is to heal people AND build a human being up. You just validated that he's a burden, because he's disables...WHAT?!?! This man cannot control the hand that is dealt to him. If a woman wants to be in a committed relationship with him then yes, she is going to be his support. Through sickness and in health. If she's got an issue with it, then she shouldn't be with him. How dare she break him down and make him feel worse?! He needs to see a therapist to get to the core of his mental health, before addressing his actions. You literally sat there and chastised him. You call yourself a psychologist. For shame!!! This man lives his life with zero say in what goes on. He needs a healthy support system. You made it a thousand times worse. He's a grown man. He is not a dog. He shouldn't be conditioned to submit to this woman and go with the flow. His feelings, thoughts and opinions matter. He should have a voice. No, his behavior isn't okay, but if he had the proper therapy and support system then this wouldn't be an issue in the first place!

Incompatible people don't belong in relationships with each other. That should have been Dr. Phil's advice. This kind of couple definitely should break up at the first signs of incompatibility and find someone more compatible. It takes a very special, gifted, caring, and selfless person to be able to fill the shoes of a caregiver. That is what Dr. Phil should have said, but he obviously is blind to this reality, as so many are. Many people cannot be a good caregiver and should never try. As many who do try and are horrible at it actually put some people in danger. I've seen it all and it can be a nightmare. It's okay for people not to be able to be a good caregiver, to know that about themself, and never take on that role. Ever. What is not okay is for someone to not be good at it, or actually be horrible at it, and do it anyways. Unfortunately, that happens a lot, which is nothing short of abusing the person they are supposed to be caring for. To me, it seems this man is reacting to abusive caregiving. I've known lots of bad caregivers. Even some dangerously bad that put people's lives in mortal danger. This young lady should never be a caregiver. She doesn't have the personality or ability. I would have fired and replaced her, girlfriend or not. The other video with all of the thumbs down they turned off the comments on.. OMG. Dr. Phil referred to a caregiver role as a taskmaster. Caregiving is not like that, unless you're not meant to be a caregiver. Key word.. CARE.. as in love. Sure, it's a job, but out of love, not a chore. It's not easy being there for someone 24/7. It is harder than just picking up a shift here and there. It's not a job for everyone, especially anyone who refers to it as the taskmaster.

Dr Phil's advice is BS. In another clip, he says that being in love & being a caregiver should be mutually exclusive. A professor in college had a disabled husband, who unfortunately passed away. She took care of him. They may have had people come by to help because she worked, but when she was home, she took care of him. Love isn't always easy or convenient, it's work. I think they need help, not because of his disability, but the fact they're abusive to each other.
