Actually It was Glen Frey's idea to form the Eagles. Henley has stated this multiple times calling Glen "The Capitan of the Ship" and "It was Glen's band from the start".

Joe Walsh is more of a better solo artist. For me the one that put Eagles on top is Don Felder. He wrote all the music for Hotel California including the bass, drum patterns and guitar.

Felder was the man-his tone is rich an he wrote the music for this song-genius. Walsh was excellent but Felder was the man that played the great riffs -listen to the one in "One Of These Nights" awesome and underrated guitarist.

This is my favorite band of all time and the hotel California album is my favorite album. Every song on there is great all the way down to the end. All their albums are great, but that one is my favorite and that was the one that started it off for me. I love watching your reaction. This is rock ‘n’ roll that anybody can listen to and it always has been and that’s how they have always done it. I love how you love the way they Joe Walsh and Don Felder played at the end together. It looked like a battle. They’re both playing different things in the beginning and then they both played exactly the same thing just before it ended. I just thought that’s one of the greatest riffs ever.

The point of the song is about people coming to Hollywood to be successful and getting entrapped by the fancy lifestyle etc. and not being able to get out of it. This song is iconic in many ways including the drummer as the lead singer but it is also one of the very few songs that the guitar solo is at the end. Joe Walsh's face when he is playing opposite Don Felder is priceless! Thanks! with

This is the music I grew up on. The Eagles were a great 70's band with so many hit songs. They were known for their great harmonies. "Take It Easy", "Lyin' Eyes", "Witchy Woman", "Desperado", "Already Gone", "Best of My Love", "One Of These Nights", "Take It To The Limit", "New Kid In Town" etc. Before they went solo they were the back up band for Linda Ronstadt.

one of the many classics ! They came to the UK. many years ago and my wife and I managed to get tickets to see them in Yorkshire England, about an hour from our home. Such was their popularity that the roads were gridlocked, and as we were running along the road to the Stadium, we heard the opening intro to " Hotel California " and by the time we actually got in it was over !!!!! I was gutted !

This is probably too late to get to you. I lived & grew up in Southern California during the 60s, 70s & early 80's in the Malibu, Topanga Cyn, Santa Monica Cyn, Bel Aire, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Pacific Palisades areas. The song talks about how addictive & totally overwhelming the LA lifestyle was during that time. Like he said "You can check out (go crazy or die) but you can never leave". How true that was for so so many. "This could be heaven or this could be hell". So many wonderful beautiful deep experiences and yet so much pain & agony. So much genius, so much pettiness. That was the "Hotel California". So bittersweet
