I am a first year medical student at a top tier school (I know that we do not generally believe in the idea of school tiers at medical school HQ, but I wanted to give people some context.) I did the first two years of undergrad at community college, and I am not the only person in my class to do so. I took some med school prerequisites at my CC, including organic chem and physics. However, when I transferred to a 4 year university, I did take some upper level science courses there as well such as biochem and other bio classes. I am completely pro-community college. It saved me a lot of money and I did a lot of growth during my time there. Medical schools being more accepting of community college courses/online courses etc.. will go a long way in increasing diversity in the physician pool, and I am super excited to see this change. Good luck to those applying this cycle! PS - Me attending a CC did NOT come up in any of my interviews.

Can you please give me an advice on an affordable community college to select for premed. I want to get into college to take premed and I don't really know which to select...

I have been accepted to 4 MD schools this cycle. I did almost all my pre reqs at CC. I did then transfer to a university to complete a Biology degree - all online. Take classes where and when you can and do well and it will be fine

I’m taking my Bachelors degree at a community college and worried that it may affect my chances of acceptance. I also have some questions on what classes to take, is there anyway I can connect with you please?

started at cc and got into 5 DO schools, it honestly was the thing that helped my application

How did it help if you don't mind me asking? Congratulations btw.

@@tisha4lives Thanks. There's so much I could could into but its what you make of it. I learned mostly from my older adult peers about finances, adult responsibilities and how to overcome the stigma by helping other cc students. If you have any questions Id be glad to answer

If you’re gonna take community college courses I would recommend taking some upper divs at a university and excelling in them to counteract any biased

I'm in community college now and the medical school accepts community college transcript especially if it's from a U.S institution. Before the pandemic, they didn't take online courses, some didn't take, community college transcript but again, the pandemic changed that.🤷♀️

i'm completing a DIY at a community college, so i'll update here on how it goes. we don't really see a lot of success stories from people completing DIY at community college. i emailed the dean at one of the schools at which i plan to apply and their advice was general, rather than specific to their school. they said I could complete a formal post bacc at a university, or a DIY post bacc at a community college. but they also said that most of their successful applicants end up having to attend medical school out of state. so basically, they were letting me know that it would be hard to get in there regardless. i'm going to try to enroll in at least one course (biochem) at a university so that medical schools can see that my science isn't all community college. i'm in a bad situation since i did well in community college back in the day, but did average at university when i transferred, but now i'm back to doing well at community college, so they will judge my trend as clearly not up for the rigor of a university. if i do not get in, i may consider a postbacc at a university. i'd do fine since i already have a science foundation

This is my exact situation, any updates?

My local medical School is very cc friendly now and is starting community college paths to med skool but it wasn't always like that. I remember when I went to the open house in 2017 and the person for post bac/ CC booth wasn't there the sign was literally tattered and falling down. When I asked about it they said oh they couldn't find them......lol oh man I remember leaving thinking ok I am doing this on my own!

Is there a video you have about how important where you graduate from Is? I am in a position where attending a school near me will be roughly 50000 dollars cheaper, but the school basically has a 100% acceptance rate. Now I'm trying to figure out if i should transfer from the less competitive one or stay.

Question. For the community college point, Does the “discrimination” still apply if it’s classes that are not prerequisite classes but are necessary for your BSN.

I am a recent high school graduate. I have the option of going pre med to a smaller private college full tuition vs a larger more prestigious private college where I would have to pay around $20k/yr. The larger college has more research opportunities but harder to get a good gpa. The smaller college has smaller class size and fewer research opportunities but easier to get a good gpa. It has fewer premed students but a few have made it to state medical school in the past. Please help me decide?
