I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Perfect review Jon, for the simple fact that most of us viewers do not own nor can afford a porch. I am a fisherman who has bought expensive reels which I absolutely loved but one splash of sandy water n they were pretty much done. Curious to know why none of the squad uses Abu Garcia, 60 bucks lasts a lifetime. Quality.

I gave away googan baits today. Awesome that you uploaded today, I finally got to go fishing with my ol lady today cause she finally got some weekend time off . I always giveaway bobbers and other lures I find that I don't use but today I met a boy that was ten and he was fishing with his dad and told me he likes the Googan squad. I asked him who his fav was and he said Jon B and peric. I told him Jon B was my fav too along with LFG Rackley. I asked what he thoughts about Googan baits and he told me he wanted some soooo badd that he has been saving up for some. His dad said he has been asking for things to do to make money . I had some trench hawg left in a pack and a whole pack of slim shake so I got them out of my backpack and asked his dad on the side if I could give them to him. He said yes so I set them beside the boys trick worm pack and when he reeled in I told him his work looked a lil beat up he should put on a new one. When that boy reached down for his bag and seen the clam shell pack of Googan bait he bout lost his mind, wish I had filmed it. I now have two new friends and my ol lady thinks I'm getting sweeter than pie as I age lol but felt good and that kid is having best day. Thanx for awesome vids now time to go get back on Karl's and get some more trench and some more banditos cause even the sandies hit em .

I love Shimano IX2000's, they are built to last. I have one (R2000) that I know is 20 years old and still use is all the time. Rods vary. I use this reel in fresh or salt and they have all been great. Added bonus, they are like $10 - $12. I find that pricier reels tend to fall apart because they cut corners. I just wish Shimano would make a micro version!

I used to repair reels for a charter fishing company on the WA coast and I am still torn on the issue: 1) no gear is going to make you a better fisherman (-person?), no matter what the cost. The reel is one of the last considerations a 'casual' angler is going to need to worry about. Any reel is better than no reel and even having been a professional reel repairman for a charter fishing company, I've never had the chance/option to buy a new reel. I have four reel, all spinning reels...one was my first spinning from '94, one was a piece of trash my dad got in '97 that I had to retrieve from the bottom of a lake, one I found at low tide in a harbor (which you could guess by using it) and one is for panfishing only. My kid's spincastering zebcos literally cast better....and I still catch fish. Yes, it's a ton of unneeded extra work just to maintain them but it's, financially, this or literally nothing. I've caught bluegill on a snap swivel and some line.....i will try to catch fish on any gear, no matter the quality and that is due to the consistent lack of funds and my love for the sport. I swear, I could fish a puddle for hours and be satisfied. 2) it's like only you're experience with a car is a 80's Subaru hatchback....then you get to ride in a modern luxury car. ......I can see both sides.
@rajgill75765 жыл бұрын
I see what youre on about, but let me fix that for you. Ita like you jave an old 80s subaru, and then you put brand new tires on it that are ultra nice high end. Still the same fisherman/rod/bait, but your control of all 3 of those is unified by the reel, which I would compare to tires....
@nemesisslr5 жыл бұрын
We get the same over here in the UK saltwater. The fish adapt their colours. The most striking change I have found is the Cod. Where I usually fish they are very pale with a dark back but when I fished a very rocky mark up on the north east coast I was catching ones that had a vivid red/orange back. Which is the same as the weed there.

I undestand and agree with you're conclusion, here are some thoughts of me that might put a different view on it: the handle knobs are the easyest thing to upgrade, so put on what ever you like, for example I always upgrade the knobs on my low gear spinning reels cause I don't like the round handles and get a much better grip with a well made egg-knob. so this problem to make it more fishable would be solved, the question would be how well the gears and the anti reverse are, how much pulling power it haves and what's the true max drag, I meen, the stated 4kg are plenty for a 200g reel but still not very much to stop big fish and with that little capacity you have to stop the fish, also, if the fish spools you, how strong is the whole constructionwhen the Line is connected to the reel with a 100% connection like I do it? cause if it holds up to 10-15kg than you still get a good chance of landing the fish, if not it could destroy the reel. all in all, you have to know the internals, if they are able to withstand the abuse of harsh fishing multiple times longer than most others, it's worth the money from a practical perspective, if not its only a shiny fancy thing with a big price tag. Oh, and of cource, no one NEEDS an very expensive reel for bass fishing, but it can be nice and there are some other fish to beat the shit out of this reel, like little tunas, big barramundy, murray Cod(they can grow to an men's size, although the last big ones were caught many decades ago). Oh and by the way I have a couple of 1000$ reels, but I bought all of them only cause of the internals and the ability to handle big fish over and over again and they are either big heavy duty spinning reels that I fish with over 60lb of drag or 130 or even bigger conventional reels like the everol 20/0 when lots of very heavy line is needed and when tied to an car in gear, or anything else heavy I fish 200lb+ drag, it's crazy, but needed to bring giant sharks or tuna fast enough in to safely release them

As someone who loves high dollar rods and reels, I can tell you that the only way that I would ever pay $1000 for what's basically a glorified baitcaster reel, would be if I had the cash to blow. Don't get me wrong, that reel is an absolute WORK OF ART and when you pulled it out for the first time my eyes were about the size of quarters, but I'm happy with my Daiwa Procaster. It does the exact same thing, just maybe not as smooth. However, I came from saltwater fishing in Florida and I have spent some good amounts of money on Penn Deep Sea reels and rods back in the day, but nothing like this.
